These days it's not enough to know the guitar parts. You've got to nail the tone as well. In this video, I'll show you my most important guitar sounds for worship music and how I get them.

Great video! Stumbled upon it in my “suggested videos” and it caught my attention. Love the sounds you use, even gave me a couple ideas to add to my rig, so I appreciate you taking the time! Especially love the “squeaky clean” with the verb and delay-liked your use of the delay especially. Gotta say that I really love using cleaner tones with maybe a *little* drive (if not just clean altogether), but then my ceramic pickups kinda make everything sound a little hotter unless I roll my volume down a little anyway haha. But something about the cleaner tones with some longer hall or church verb, some echo or delay, just gets me. Great video again, blessings bro!

Nice! Like the finger raking picking method. From the video description it would seem that you’re running the Dunlop volume after the amp sim on each board, does the Volume X work well for you in that spot? And are you using the tuner out!? (Gasp) I’m shopping for a volume pedal for either after drives or after Dream and that one is one of the contenders.
@GettinBetterWithDave
@GettinBetterWithDave 2 ай бұрын
Yes, I currently have the vol after amps. Technically it should probably go after drive before the amp but I didn't notice much difference having it there. I previously had the amp last in the chain and moving that to go before the wet effects was a lot bigger sound change. This current chain has been working well for me. and yes, using the tuner out. It's actually usable the Vol X because the y used a better rated pot, from what I understand. I've tried with the tuner out and without and can't hear the difference. I would recommend the Vol X, It's not a perfect pedal, I have had to do some tinkering with it here and there but I have been able to do the work myself and have not had to send it in to fix a string or something. Thanks for the comment!

Great video. Greetings from Mexico. One question, is it better to get multiple pedals or just get one multi effect processor pedal?
@GettinBetterWithDave
@GettinBetterWithDave 3 ай бұрын
Greetings from Arizona! Great question, Marco! I think it's easier to learn guitar pedals one at a time, because you dive deeper and try more things with that one pedal. If you're running multi effects you may be temped to just jump to a different sound too soon because you don't like it in the first 30 seconds of messing with it. That said, multi pedals have to ability to change a bunch of things all at once, that requires a pressing a few foot switches on a traditional pedalboard. I don't mind that, but it's a deal breaker for some people. I like trying new pedals and changing things up with individual pedals. but that just my person preference.
@ianmorales7757
@ianmorales7757 3 ай бұрын
Que tal, Marco! Wanted to add to Dave’s great advice. Coming from a someone who has used both of them, I would say that it depends on your preference in some areas. For one, will you be traveling often? If so, it’s MUCH easier to have a multi-effects processor than a pedal board. Traveling with a full pedal board can be a really scary thing sometimes (with how airlines treat people’s things these days). Also, pedal boards tend to be much more expensive to put together, as you have to buy individual pedals, the board itself that you put your pedals on, patch cables, the power supply, etc… also, if you will be playing worship, and you want to play swells on your guitar, you might want to also buy a volume/expression pedal as well… while with a multi-effects processor, you have all of that digitally. Most multi effects processors come with expression pedals on them that you can use as volume, wah, or other things. With pedals, like Dave said, you can take the time to learn each pedal, each effect, and really get to understand how they work. You can do that with most multi-effect processors, but to some people it may be confusing. I have found that there are some great multi-effects pedals at really good prices (about $2,500 MXN), like the Valteon GP-100 or the NUX MG-300 (around $2,800 MXN), and they are small enough to take anywhere easily, they have great amp simulations and effects already built in, and you can even add sounds to them from a computer. Many of these multi effects pedals these days sound almost as good, if not as good, as what you can get in pedals. With pedals, most of these pedals even in the simple board he has (like the Boss OD-3, the driver pedal he has-a really essential pedal) start over $2,500 MXN on Amazon. So that can get expensive really quickly when you buy individual pedals. So it depends on if you want to take the time to buy good pedals for a pedalboard which is a great way to go, or if you’d like to get a multi-effects processor that you can start with and get into the world of effects. There are also many great videos here on KZbin that show you how to use them. I’d say Dave’s advice is great, as you can sometimes skip from one thing to another and not learn as you would with pedals, but with multi effects processors, you can still learn about effects well, especially if you take the time to search how to use them. Both are great options, it just depends on how you would like to go. I hope this helped! Dios te bendiga, hermano!

@@ianmorales7757 I totally agree! It's a preference thing. But Travel is something I have not thought about, Flying with a Multi FX would be much easier and less that the airlines can ruin. Good thoughts!

You don't use any delay for your swells? I find it makes it much easier to maintain the swell for longer. Also, I loved the pad sounds by turning the tone knob down. Definately going to use that.
@GettinBetterWithDave
@GettinBetterWithDave 3 ай бұрын
I have leaned more on delay for swells in the past but I like how smooth the reverb trails are for swells. That said, I do have delay on when I'm swelling but my reverb is doing all the heavy lifting. Thanks for the comment!

Great Video! Are you really not going into any amps!? could you explain what you're doing tone wise; is the Light-Speed an amp modeler or something?
@GettinBetterWithDave
@GettinBetterWithDave 3 ай бұрын
Hey thanks! No amps used. I didn't talk about the UAFX Dream 65, it's the black 2 foot switch pedal, top right of my main board. That's always on and providing my amp sound. Then the light speed and moonshine (tube screamer) are the add overdrive to the amp sound. In some situations I would run an amp modeling pedal at the end of my chain but I've liked having the Dream before all my wet effects.

Do you always exclusively use pedals for your drive tone? Because that first tone would sound nice as a matchless or vox style amp getting pushed a bit too hard. But then you can't use the squeeky clean without changing your amp model.
@GettinBetterWithDave
@GettinBetterWithDave 3 ай бұрын
I use pedals to get the dirty sound for that very reason, so I don't have to change the app sound to go full clean. It's not the only way to do things but that works for me.

I've been playing guitar for worship at my church for 19 years. Absolutly nothing in this is needed. When I started I had no pedals. Now I have too many to count and I just use 5 pedals. A wah to accent a bend during a solo, a drive pedal, chorus, delay ( analog for "normal" delay and tape for some frippertronics) and a reverb.

Worship is an inferior music genre. Convince me wrong.
@GettinBetterWithDave
@GettinBetterWithDave Ай бұрын
Worship is an expression of love towards ones savior. It's treated like a genre because a lot of the Church uses similar musical styles to connect people together in times of worship. To call worship a genre is an oversimplification, like calling the earth a big rock.. it's a bit more than that. Worship does not need to be great-than, it only needs to point out that Christ is greater than I. Thanks for watching
