IMO The Turok games hold up much better than Golden Eye.

if i had to pick a single n64 that aged the best i'd probably pick Paper Mario 64

Great list. I will admit though, as good as Goldeneye is, it doesn't 'hold up today'. I can get used to the controls and stuff in time when booting it up, but it's no longer intuitive. One game I'd probably add is Star Fox 64 [aka Lylatwars] because its controls and pace still work today, and is just an all-around good arcade-shooter-game with hilarious dialogue to boot.

Exactly. As much as I love Goldeneye and Super Mario 64, they didn't exactly age well, specially in the controls. They are, however, incredible masterpieces and should receive the praise and respect they deserve but they don't really hold on today. And that's not a bad thing. The N64 and PSOne were a time to experiment things and develop new trends and both had great games charting this new territory of gaming. But some games, even the masterpieces, suffer from how much games have improved after them.

The remaster of Goldeneye plays extremely well and so does my virtual console version of Mario 64. Perfect Dark is better than both though

I’d say Goemon’s great adventure, StarCraft 64, Banjo Tooie, Conker’s bad fur day and Ogrebattle 64. Those are my top 5 awesome n64 games.

Before your first words were spoken, banjo Kazooie immediately came to mind. Truly a timeless classic and a masterpiece of video game history

I'd say Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Mischief Makers, Blast Corps, Paper Mario, Pokemon Snap, Smash Bros still all hold up as well

Best wrestling games ever made, all of which are still fun to play, all on the N64, and you couldn't even mention one....

Fun list! Hard to narrow down just 5, but you can tell you put a lot of thought into it.

How is it possible that you didn’t include Superman 64? How dare you not include that masterpiece. As the president of KZbin, I am revoking your ability to make you to content.

Good video, but if I could make a recommendation for the future, you may want to try and make your scripts a bit less generic. Everything you're saying has been parroted a million times over by other KZbinrs, and it felt like I was reading an old gaming magazine's bullet points on what made these games great. Just inject a bit of personality in, and don't rely so heavily on what you have written down. I'm hyper aware that I'm listening to someone reading something.

Personally while I recognize goldeneye's historical and cultural significance, I do not think it belongs on a list of games that "still hold up today". It's a great game that I greatly appreciate, but in the era of controllers having 2 sticks goldeneye is clunky. That said it is your list and I respect you having your own opinions. For me 2 games I would have included are Star Fox 64 and Conkers Bad Fur Day. SF64 not only holds up in gameplay but graphically as well. The low poly nature of the N64 works REALLY well for ships and the game is still amazing to this day. Conkers was well ahead of it's time, complete with full voice acting, dynamic facial expressions, and mechanics that were well ahead of its time like autosaving. Overall it was a well balanced game by standards of it's time and my cousin who has an issue with what he calls old-game-itis managed to actually complete the story.

In my opinion Tetrisphere holds up the best since it is so abstract. It could be released today and be well received while not be panned for its graphics at all.

Goldeneye does NOT hold up today. IT was overrated when it released too, compared to pretty much ANY pc shooter of its time. It did push console gaming forward but it got left way behind. I tried to play it with the kids recently, they hated it. "These controls suck. I can't get headshots or aim properly. The walls all look the same" were the top complaints. I even showed them the two controller mode for dual sticks (most don't even know about that!) and it just wasn't much better lol

Agreed. I tried playing it on the Nintendo Switch (never played it before), got stuck on the second stage, and gave up because it felt so primitive.

Here are some of my timeless favs Wave race Star fox 64 1080 snowboarding And Star Wars episode 1: racer You know i didn't even realize that these were all racing type games. I also loved things like turok and quake 2 but i dont think they still hold up today on the 64.

Mario 64 will always be my favorite for that console. It embodies everything it represents and the soundtrack as well as gameplay were genre-defining phenomena.

Goldeneye was one of my *favorite* games. I have put hundreds of hours into it. I can say definitively it does *not* hold up -- and that's no dig to it. The first person shooter has just advanced so hard since it, and it's in the awkward middle-school age of shooters. Games earlier on like Doom and Quake hold up much better.

@@SNEStalgia I think for me the new snes and Nintendo 64 I group together as the nes was my first system. The snes I absolutely adore and the Nintendo 64 I think is the starting odd point for the technological advancements that we wanted more life like games. But no the systems that I probably like the most is the late 80’s to early 2000’s. Now you have to buy everything you want instead of grinding a game to get the weapon or armour that could make you undeafeatable lol sorry for the rant haha 😂 I just totally Took the convo to a different topic 😂

OOT held up better than SM64 for two reasons: - Z targeting and Z centering led to a better camera experience than using C buttons to rotate the camera - Fighting mechanics in OOT aged better than the platforming mechanics in SM64

I agree with this list, except for 007. That game is so painful to play these days, even with the updated controls on the XBLA version.
