Great memories and kits, so much like a time machine The metal miniatures are vintage now, ouch, and the Apollo kits kind of introduced the concept of dioramas Thanks for sharing.

I had a squadron of Mosquitos. Now I'm back into the hobby, I look out for old mouldings. Aquire those cheaply and add the after market goods, much more satisfying!

I was buying and making Airfix kits from about 1967/68 up to 1972. I had the bofos gun, and angel interceptor. I saved pocket money and loose change, then when I was 11, got a paper round! (Imagine kids today) out all weather, every Saturday morning I would be down the local Woolworths, browsing and buying kits and paints. My younger brother inherited them, and probably within a year they were all in the bin. Looking back, I wish I had saved them.

Yeah great memories! Remember getting the 1/24 Me109 built by my late uncle, but was disappointed since I wanted the 1/72 S 79 Italian tri-motor torp. bomber!

Probably not their best kit, but the old Wellington was a real gem. Early kits were made of hard silver plastic and fit extremely well. The tooling got pretty dodgy before it finally gave up the ghost resulting in the stellar new Wellington kit. With some strip stock the geodetic structure and some missed detail around the cockpit windows can be easily added. I think it came out in 1959 and was a favourite of mine. I think I built it 8 times. A few years ago they were dumping them on eBay and I bought a bunch of them.

The Airfix B-29 for me was fantastic ,it was a big kit with retractable landing gear ,working bomb bay doors ,and moving turrets ,I bought it in the small shop in the village I grew up in ,it sold everything from bicycles to shotgun catridges !

Yes! the LEM in 1/72. It does not get better than that! My favs include (but not limited to): __1__ Heinkel He-177 1:72 ... certainly well eclipsed by the much later Revell tooling, but still a great kit for the era. 1967 was a great year for Airfix designers. __2__ Bristol Blenheim IV 1:72 (60's tooling) ... Rivets galore, and probably not as good as the contemporary FROG Blenheim I... heck both were great. Totally mesmerized by the box art. __3__ 88mm and Tractor 1:76 ... Again, the 1/76 8,8 cm was not as good as the 1/72 Hasegawa offering, but with the SdKfz, it was looked so fantastic. __4__ HMS Tiger 1:600 ... An oldie but a goodie. __5__ Saturn IB 1:144 ... The original tooling Saturn's had command modules that were noticeably too small in diameter but they still looked cool __6__ Vostok Launcher 1:144: Again, the box art was dreamy. __7__ SM.79 1:72 ... Sure, the Italeri one makes this late 60s tooling look clunky, but it was so exotic back in the day. __8__ H.P. 0/400 1:72 ... Just so much kit and so unique for the era. ... checking out my stash when I get home... :-))

In Ireland, in the 70's and 80's the Bofors gun and tractor was like hen's teeth. It was like winning the lottery if you got your hands on one. Same with the 88mm kit.

Thing is, although it was boring, we didnt know any better than 3 TV channels, we thought Vesta packet curries were exotic, but we ate vegetables from our garden, and our grandparents garden. The sky was blue, like during lockdown, not milky because of contrails spraying crap in the sky. The music was great for us bored disaffected kids, The Jam. Clash, Pistols, Stranglers and post punk 80s from Joy Division to the Smiths. Yes, some good, some bad, but im glad i experienced that time, after all, we are all products of our environment.

That lot isn't "music" if you were lucky enough to grow up in the 60's with the Beatles, Rolling Stone, the Kinks et. al. lol.

Funny but if I had to list my Airfix favourites, that Short Skyvan would certainly be on the list. I am 57 years old and clearly remember when it was first released - Happy days!

I got the Lunar Module myself and the Saturn V, but I wanted that Sea King too and most of all, the Holy Grail, was a Saturn 1B I know if I did, it would look like the rest of the those I made as a kid. I found my Saturn V and the paintwork is embarrassing. And even having one of them now, it would be a lot of work considering the quality of 70s tooling, to make it looki good, but dang, I would love a 1B none the less (and the Vostok) - 1974 catalogue I am sure as I thumbed those pages ruthlessly. Moved on to Tamiya at that time as y brother did and never looked back. I bought the Revell 1/96 Sat V and judging by some videos, not a clean build either. A lot of work to overcome sloppy molding. And why can't they reissue Gemini. It was part of Revell's 'History Makers' series in the early 80s and was the last kit I bought - still sitting in a cupboard unmade... behind a ton of junk in my store room and I have no motivation to dig it out!

Yes, don't think I ever saw the 1B, only in the catalogue. Thanks for commenting. You can get one on ebay but not cheap!

@@davidwheeler254 Thanks David, apologies for the late reply. I have often been too afraid to look in case I find out there is no way one is still out there! Kinda defeats the purpose, but it's like living in hope! I should just bite the bullet and seek it out. The guy who runs a tiny model shop near me mentioned sites like kit finders which exist and is a good place to also look. I recently remembered I have a 1980s Revell Lunar Module kit I bought, the last kit I ever bought before just starting again a year or so ago. But I got so much junk in a 2 storage rooms, I have to figure which one it's in and then dig it out as I know I never built it or even opened the box. I just hope it is not in the room that had a roof leak. Though it's probably still the same tooling as the most recent Revell LM you can get??
