Narratively it was Gohan's time but he didn't sell enough merchandise and the face of the franchise was still Goku. Goten is probably a result of a compromise that didn't take considering even today he's essentially just chibi (adult) Goku to the point where they might as well just called him Goku jr.

Nova wasn't a disappointment, Super 17 kicked everyones ass, Rildo was the shit, Baby was terrifying, Ledgit forced Goku to go SSJ, the Sigma Force were impressive despite being just robots and some of the other Shadow Dragons were still terrifying. I think the only terrible one was Rage who died to rain. Haze was Mr Satan Dragon who managed to fool Goku and Pan to the point of defeat only to lose because of Deus Ex Machina. Super and Super Heroes has a lot more jobbers

I resent the Buu Saga Gohan, he was goofy, and weaker but at least he fought. Gohan as a kid, and during the Cell saga took a looonnnnnggg time before he actually kicked ass. Gohan wouldn't fight in the Saiyan saga and when he finally did, he got washed, he got washed in the Namek Saga, he was down to fight in android saga but was saved until the Cell fight and refused to fight again. I'd take Gohan in the Buu Saga any day of the week.

Supreme Kai definitely should have been hyped like Beerus. Not Like that much stronger than the Z Fighters, but like either comparable or slightly stronger than them temporarily. (Maybe stronger than Vegeta and Gohan but not Goku?) That way, he could've taught them something or maybe, he was stronger but gets nerfed by something or someone else. (Like Buu was a being specifically made to kill or absorb the Kais so he was weak to Buu while the others weren't. Or he was weak to Dabura for some reason.) But yeah Supreme Kai could've been a badass until he got washed by Buu or Dabura, gets surprised by Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta's power, and tries to teach them all something they may need to beat Buu. The potara's, the unlock ability, super saiyan 3 maybe. whatever.

Here's the thing... I agree... if you followed DBZ... year over year... not in a binge... frm Deadzone... you were led to believe that Gohan (at some point) would surpass all... so I dont like where he ended up... HAVING SAID ALL THAT... his story is believable... and there's not much in DBZ that is believable. Its conceivable that he never had the spirit of the 100% saiyans... he had an overprotective mother... he lost his father and went through a 7yr period of complete peace... if you believe that... then its very HUMAN to let ur guard down... esp at that age. So i didn't like it... but it made sense... (unfortunately)... and very little in the DBZ universe :( usually makes logical sense...

Are you serious about Dabura? When I saw him, I thought he was a pushover but turned out to be a challenge for Gohan. I mean last time we had a demon king, it was King Piccolo and now they want me to believe some demon king is stronger than the Frieza, a character so powerful he can destroy planets in his weakest form and was feared by the god of the world King Kai? If you want a badass Dabura, you can still read the Super Dragon Ball Heroes manga. In the latest arc, he is so powerful, Vegeta who can turn SSJ4 is so terrified by his power, he suggested to fuse with Goku into Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. I think one of the most disappointing characters is Cui who suppose to be Vegeta's rival. Kaioshin was bad because he claimed to be 1000 times stronger than Frieza, the dude Gods actually feared. I doubt he can even fight him. Worst of all, he is the most incompetent character. He fused with Kibito and didn't even fight. He knows nothing. Can read Minds but didn't bother to read the minds of Babidi's goons by letting them absorb Gohan's energy. Dodoria was also a disappointment. He suppose to be Frieza's body guard to jobbed to Vegeta who casually disposed his "rival" Cui.
