I love obeka. However, she tends to draw a lot of aggro in my experience. One of her defining strengths is her ability to make use of extra turn cards. So sometimes it can end up being you playing solitaire, and people don’t really like that.

Last Esix game I played, Myr Battlesphere made me 4 Risen Reefs, I drew the top 20 playing all the lands, then I made 19 Myr Battlespheres over the next 2 turns.

Esix was the first deck I ever built myself. I learnt to play in secret to play with my now fiancé around the time strixhaven released and I bought the esix precon. I learnt to play and upgraded it myself slowly and to this day its one of my favourite decks to play.

One that I've come to love recently is Nahiri, Forged in Fury. She's THE BEST equipment commander by far, and pairs well with all of the for mirrodin and living weapon cards. The card advantage while being in boros is nuts

PSA for anyone lookong to build a Thief Obeka deck, "until end of turn" effects are a duration and not a delayed trigger, you can't avoid them using Obeka's ability

Yidris is my fav commander. Can do combat or storm strategies. A lot of people don’t know that you can stack his trigger multiple times. If you have double strike, or extra combats, god forbid you have both. You can get 4 free spells for one cast from your hand, and that’s one extra combat with double strike.

Krenko, Mob Boss is super fun especially if you pair him with creatures that add +1/+1 to goblins or same creature types. Assuming you can get off the ground with it you just give yourself infinite goblin army. My best moment with my goblin deck was probably it’s debut I had like 40+ 3/3 goblins ready to swing at my friends whenever because they weren’t paying attention

Academy manufactor is such an insane card with esix. If you play a card that gives you a food/treasure/clue token, you can get three more academy manufactors. If they live another turn and you have a way to create one more food/treasure/clue token, you generate 81 tokens of any creature you want. It’s not fast, kinda fragile, but super cool

Built an Obeka deck and it was a fun commander imo. Used wheel effects along with cheap graveyard recur that sacs at end step or sneak attack and end step end turn to keep huge creatures for super cheap.

You can also use Obeka to stop etb effects, so you can play big beaters that usually have a downside, like Phyrexian Dreadnought, eater of days, or evple nulldrifter without sacrificing it

Esix is very fun, but I'm working on a Atla Palani that hopefully outshines: A "core" of 69 noncreature spells, and the last 30 are creatures but from a pool of 100 cards. Either 3 stacks of 10 similarly powered creatures, or just go full random with it.

Obeka is a joy to pilot, however I have sadly cut a ton of the unique cards as 5 mana control magic with haste isn't all that. Cards like Kiki-Jiki and sneak attack are still nuts tho.

Slave of Bolas doesn’t work with Obeka, it doesn’t mention an end step so you can’t exile the ability on the stack once it triggers

However it's worded, it does still create a delayed trigger that goes on the stack during your end step, which you can then tap Obeka to end the turn and exile the stack

I haven't seen a lot of these in action, but they would definitely be fun! Slave of Bolas does seem like a waste with Obeka, but any treachery type card for cheaper would be great. The one that can be fun is Ydris, but the way I've seen him built is wheel a lot and force people to die from wheel stuff. It could be way more fun the ways you suggested.

Slave of Bolas is one of the only thief effects that works. Most only steal till end of turn and not "at the beginning of the next end step"

@@Djewell314 I misread her, but still that seems like such a waste of Slave of Bolas. Especially since you can take permanent control of something for 5 mana anyways. Part of the fun of slave of Bolas is sacrificing that creature, but keeping creatures can be the better route. I just feel as though you might as well use blue theft cards that steal permanently no matter what

I really wish Obeka worked like that, but end of turn effects still end, and next end step triggers still go on your opponent’s next one. It’s only good with infinite turn combos and those are no fun for anyone

triggers that say “at the beginning of the next end step” work just fine. you go to your end step, allow the triggers to go on the stack, and end the turn to stifle them all. the “next end step” check has then been met and the trigger did not resolve, leaving you with a permanent effect

ending the turn exiles all spells and abilities on the stack. obeka therefore allows you to cheat on cards and effects that are meant to be temporary using the wording “at the beginning of the next end step” by allowing those triggers to go on the stack and then ending the turn to prevent them from resolving. for example, you activate Kiki-Jiki creating a token copy of a creature that is to be sacrificed at the end of your turn. the “sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step” trigger from Kiki goes on the stack, and you activate obeka, choosing to end your turn so the trigger can’t finish resolving. now you have a permanent Kiki clone token.
