Ah... Sengoku Basara is a classic for me. Staple of every Rental PlayStation kids playing in my home. There's a reason why 2 Heroes is so popular in Indoensia despite pretty much people understand jack about the texts and calling the characters by their looks instead of their actual names. I played 2 Heroes a lot used as a kid when my PS2 still working. And then i got myself Samurai Heroes, Utage, and then 4 for PS3. I'm annoyed that i still haven't play Sumeragi but eventually i gave up and eventually my PS3 broke too. But at least i managed to get 2 Heroes back for Emulator and i keep it wellever since even though my Emulator didn't really play too well as in it runs at half-speed/30FPS most of the time. But it's more of my system problems, otherwise i might try to get PS3 Emulator for Utage and Samurai Heroes at least. Also, about your issues about how linear it is. I actually seen it as a good thing because i'm more of a type of player who prefers going tasks as quickly as possible instead of messing around and kill enemies, and i find that the tasks in Basara seems to be more varied and unique compared in Musou/Warriors. That is also the one who led me to hate Stages where the 'gates' are massive number Enemies Defeated, such as Sekigahara in 2 or Sekigahara Intrusion in 3. But those were a nice of page to try out your move in the latter at least. And yes, that means i know Basara before Dynasty Warriors and my attachment to this franchise is what made me reluctant to play DW after until i got 8XL i think when i am older and my opinion is changing to "Not matter much when it comes to fandom rivalry"

Sengoku Basara 2 weirdly did both Nobunaga's and Hideyoshi's times, including battles from both frames of time. Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes gave full on stories for Kojiro Katakura, Oichi, and Nagamasa while giving revamped/alternative stories (or "Gaiden" as they call it) for Masamune Date, Yukimura Sanada, Keiji Maeda, Kotaro Fuuma, and Motochika Chosokabe.

For what it’s worth, there is a slowly ongoing fan English translation patch for Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi headed by MikoM. It’s what allowed me to understand enough of the game to actually play it fairly thoroughly so if you ever manage to get it imported and want to try modding your PS3 or if you decide to emulate it then it might be worth looking into.

Huge Drakengard fan here, this might be the most positively I've seen anyone talk about it lol. Kinda surprised there was no mention of the story, considering how batshit insane it is. And it technically *is* possible to change characters in DoD 1, it's just very limited. As you recruit other characters (there are only 3), you get the ability to switch to them, but it's like a timed super state where you can only use their signature weapon.

For your comment regarding Sengoku Basara 2, it did focus on Hideyoshi in a way but it was moreso a reboot of the first game like how Sengoku Basara 4 was a reboot for the entire period while having some more focus on the start of the period after the Onin War at least from what Im aware of

Dynasty Warriors 3 was my first game, it was also the only game with a German dub, but I got DW 5 Empires for the 360 next and even got a copy of Samurai Warriors 2 for PC. I even got myself a PS2 just to get Samurai Warriors 2, XL and Empires, as well as Dynasty Warriors 3 and XL. And of the games mentioned, I only got Sengoku Basara or Devil Kings as it was sold here, which cut a few characters and increased the overall difficulty. I also watched the Sengoku Basara Anime. And the March - Arena song was and still is the best song.

Fate Extella long story short is a side story (sort of?) of the Fate/Extra series (that itself is it own story to talk about). The three stories from the first Extella game focus on Nero (yes, the very same Emperor Nero of Rome, Fate quite infamous for genderbending), Tamamo no Mae, and Altera (also known as Atilla the Hun). Extella Link is a continuation to Extella's story by introducing to us more characters from the different Fate series (Jeanne D' Arc, Astolfo, and Karna from Fate/Apo, Lancelot from Fate/Zero, and so on) as well as original characters. My only complaint about Fate Extella is that we didn't get any characters from the third Fate/Extra game, Fate/Extra CCC (BB, Melt, Passonlip, and Kiara).

Wow never thought I’d see someone do a dedicated video on Musou like games, but Really cool vid! While I do love the musou games, Sengoku Basara is by far one of my favorite games. They’re some of the most fun and coolest game series I’ve experienced and it sucks it isn’t more appreciated outside of Japan. Cause Unlike Musou it has a broader appeal being more akin to DMC or street fighter with the structure of a musou. 3 is great, but I think utage and heroes are the best ones. Also as a fan of the series, I think it’s also refreshing to see someone actually give proper credit for the drakengard games for what they are, since most people just write them off as boring games that you play for the story, which is bullshit imo. Drakengard as a series I think is pretty unique, both as a musou game and a stand alone series. You can’t name a series that tries to be Musou and mix in panzer dragoon and ace combat gameplay and pull it off well. Most people already talk about the story and for good reason, it’s part of what makes it stand out, esp among other musous. Personally my favorite is actually the 3rd since I think it has the most engaging gameplay and being the most balanced overall game. Senran Kagura I’m not a huge fan of what I played, but I wouldn’t mind giving them another chance since I will admit they have some decent combat. Though I think progression wise, they’re rather lacking. As far as musou clones, there is 2 I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on. One is demon chaos, which is from genki and published by konami. I haven’t played a ton of it, but you play as a wolf demon and there is a massively high enemy count. The other is Chaos Legion, which isn’t exactly like a musou game but it shares a lot of similar elements like fighting hordes of enemies and what not.

Oh i LOVE fate extella link and pirate warrior 3 & 4, because i also know and love the rosters. And imo the main reason for getting hyped when a franchise getting a "Warriors Adaptation" is because i felt only in this genre the characters' full potential is unleashed. Only in this type of game i can see Luffy using Red Hawk and destroying 100 people at once, as he should. Only in this type of game i can see Karna's Vasavi Shakti destroys *everything* on the map, as he should. Other games in that franchise like fighting games, open world games, or turn based games definitely has its strength, of course, but Warriors Adaptation of those franchise/series provide the strength that i mentioned that i simply can't pass. Definitely looking forward on other Warriors Clone of franchise that i knew (hoping for new ones for Bleach since the anime is returning), or even the ones that i didn't know/follow (like Senran Kagura in this vid). Also agree with fate extella link felt and looks a lot better than the previous ones. Looking forward to you playing/reviewing that.

Some feedback and thoughts- 1.Overall- I would've split the games up a lot more for content. It takes a lot of hours to do a whole series so please be careful and don't burn yourself out. 2. Sengoku Basara- It's super cool to see Tenkai as a playable character having not played the Jp only games. The wii version of 3 is interesting to say the least. The graphics are fine but the controls are wild. A is light attack (square), B is triangle. Hold B and waggle wii mote for special attacks. 3. That last Drakengard cutscene you showed felt straight out of Sengoku Basara, very similar attitude and vibes lol. 4. Didn't realize Senran Kagura was even a Warriors-like game. I get why it's divisive though. People get a little too excited over booba and this puts people off. Then there's also the crowd who can't admit they like booba. It's rare you find a vocal person who isn't freaking out either way. 5. 99 Nights looks awesome! I'd never seen that one either. Love this series you're doing so far and can't wait for the next part! I'm also super happy to see you doing so well after the hard drive corruption from a while back. I know Warriors is a niche subgenre but you're appreciated by a lot of us who love these games!

CHRIS, you should totally cover Hakuoki Warriors of The Shinsengumi, a musou-like that's also a spin-off of the Otome series Hakuoki. This one's very close to me because it's based off my first Otome game that's very near and dear to me, plus the historical setting of the Bakumatsu period of Japan and the playable characters being otome-fied and at some point vampiric versions of the historical Shinsengumi (the vampire part depending on the story in question) makes it really interesting I think. Admittedly and unfortunately the gameplay is really nothing special and I find the sound design can be a bit grating but I still think it's at least worth looking at Also is it weird to enjoy an Otome game based off of real historical figures? Probably but it kinda happened

This is actually on my list for a future video. It will likely be in Part 3 because most people in the Warriors community don't know about it. At first I though Senran Kagura were just fanservice, but after playing Burst Renewal with a upgraded 16GB Ram(8 GB doesn't seem to be enough), the Combat is quite fun to the point that I bought the Yumi DLC and played her Campaign with full A Star in all difficulty, not knowing that I actually bought it in 31 December 2022, which is her birthday. Yumi and Asuka is by far my favorite character due to their fast moving playstyle with Yumi's Freeze ability being quite strong, although her dash special is probably the weakest due to her changing weapon and move set. Seriously didn't think Senran Kagura will be in here since what I mark as a warrior clone is a Hack and Slash where there's Allies helping you fight the enemy which is basically the enemy roster of weaklings commanded by named officers.

I later played genesis on vita, oh boy, that was a mistake hahahaha. So yeah, get the ps4 version if possible. Again, super excited to see your opinion on them in the future, the only people I ever see talking about them are kamen rider fans and they don't have the highest of bars when it comes to rider games, kinda like some anime fans you know? Hmm, I think an aspect of a musou game you're leaving out is having your own army/allies backing you up. It all originated from war after all. I think that's what seperates a musou clone from a musou-like. I think a few on this list are musou-likes rather than clones, just cos you're solo with no allies in sight. Also 'estival' isn't a spelling mistake. It means "happening in summer". I got no excuse for shinovi though. :p

I like senran kagura, but have never thought of it as a musou like, doesn't hit the same notes as others in the video, mainly because stages are not like battlefields, no objectives, is just waves of enemies sometimes in a single rectangle, and the focus on aerial combos really makes for a different feel, plus VN like storytelling.

For Sengoku Basara: Sengoku Basara 3 Utage is a far better expereience gameplay wise which introduces new game modes and items as well as new characters. However if someone wants the best Basara experience i would highly recommend Sengoku 4 Sumeragi, more characters, Warriors Orochi-like weapon fusion and customization system, and all characters can switch between their R2 moves, every character also got new moves. In 3 Utage the items are basically "pictures" while in 4 Sumeragi the weapon skills are text-based, so 4 is harder to start if you cannot read japanese, but there are decent amount of english translation guides for both tittles :) I have several hours in both games and i never had any issue, the only part i am missing is the story... Yukimura Den : It is a honestly disappointing game, it feels like it's only value is Yukimura and Date's new moveset. 4 Sumeragi is far better, and you can also get all DLC if you can buy the Anniversary edition :)

Fate Extella Link is currently my single favourite Warriors clone purely on the grounds that it doesn't overstay its welcome and doesn't ride or die on its RPG mechanics like every Koei-made Warriors title released in the last decade. Lately it feels like every Warriors game, spin-off or no, is just bogged down both by how bloated they are in content, with the RPG mechanics serving as ways to bloat them even further by making every character in every game progress separate from every other character. Sure, some of the KT titles lately have been featured "money leveling", but then they frequently either have a separate progression system which determines their actual movesets, or they don't give players enough money/resources to keep their current character levelled to their last played one - often both, such as in Hyrule Warriors (there's a reason that Rupee farming glitch was so popular.) Extella Link doesn't do any of that stuff. Every character starts off with their entire combo string unlocked, along with three out of four face buttons having a skill assigned, so it never really feels like you're missing any of your attacks. On top of that, there are no equippable "weapons", and the passive bonuses that would be on weapons are instead their own equipment called "Install Skills", which are not character-specific - any Install Skills the player obtains can be slotted onto any character, even multiple characters. That means the only thing affecting your character's strength is their level, and the game gives more than enough money to always have the character you're using at the highest level you've raised one to. It makes every form of character progression outside of Bond Level universal, which makes playing at your own difficulty level easy peasy (especially since each stage clearly shows a recommended level, which differs for each difficulty option). And on the subject of Bond Level, that mainly affects how many Install Skill slots a character has, and Side Missions allow the player to raise the Bond Level of multiple characters at a time instead of just they one they are playing, so even the one singular character-specific form of progression in the game has bloat-mitigating elements present in its design. It's the ultimate anti-Warriors Warriors clone.

Aaaaand again, i find it funny that you use Russian version of DW4. Is it because its on PC? I never consider myself as a musou fan (more like an enjoyer). I played almost every game from KOEI until recently. So, as i wasn't a fan, I never knew about "clones". Instead, i found out Sengoku Basara from a fighting game) Yes, there was a fighting game on PS2 in this series. And Senran Kagura i knew from my 3DS days) It's actually kinda fun and enjoyable series of games, and not just because of fan-service. Also, about musou games characteristics - i would add that in musou game, the actual stage can change in midgame. From the actions of players, or mission objectives + there are some semblence of strategy elements.

@@ChrisGildart I have 2 of them) I'm from Russia. And i thank our publisher New Disk, that taken this huge tasks. They made deals with some japanese publishers and bring some of their games to Russia. That is how I first played DW4 and Sakura Wars for example (which is still considered japanese exclusive, lol)

If it plays like a DW7/DW8 clone, but it was made before DW7, then can you really call it a Dynasty Warriors clone? DW2-DW5 played much differently compared to DW7-DW8.

I did review Crimson Sea 1 a few years ago. I would consider it a sorta Musou clone, but it's made by Koei Tecmo, so that will be in a separate video.

I wouldn't call Sengoku Basara a Warriors Clone, he is from the same genre but they change enough so I would not call it a clone.

Hello, what about: Gintama Rumble or Bleach Soul Resurrección or Saint Seiya Battle Sanctuary or Utawarerumono Zan 1 and 2 or Kamen Raider Battroid War Genesis. These are all much better musou games than thouse.

I disagree. The attack on titan is definitely a musou game. With a twist for the license the game is using.
