In this episode I give you at least 5 online teaching ideas for your ESL classroom using Padlet. These ideas are perfect for ESL, EFL and English language students around the world.
We will focus on the free version of Padlet so there will be no problems in using these ideas in your classroom. There are many ways to use Padlet in the classroom and I talk you through real examples of how I use Padlet in face to face and online ESL classes.
We also look at how to share the Padlets with your students through Google Classroom and email.

I love the story activity. I always use that game in my f-2-f classes and had never thought of it for an online class.

These are great ideas Charlie. I really enjoy watching your videos as I think we share similar teaching philosophies. I haven't used Padlet in a while. I've mainly used the Shelf design for sharing independent learning resources per skill or for students to write sentences using a range of conjunctions and linking words with the specified words or noun phrases as the title for each column, but your activities look like a lot of fun as learners co-construct meaning in a social learning environment. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Nalini for your feedback. I put a lot of work into the videos and it's great to read some positive comments. I'm not sure what I'd call my teaching philosophy exactly but I'm definitely a hands-off kind of teacher where I really push my students to be more active in the classroom and be more responsible for their own learning. I like your idea for perhaps more advanced learners, I'll pass it onto my teachers here.

Which activity do you think will work best with your students?

Hi Charlie, I think all of the activities look great. My students are at third level. I used the map for a warmer activity this term asking Ss where they would like to be if they weren't stuck here! I've been using Padlet to look for feedback (on delivering lessons online). I used the shelf layout for this - what worked well/what could have been done differently/suggestions. I have also used the canvas layout for breakout activities, embedding a video and asking groups to answer particular questions when they've watched it. I could comment on their answers live in the Padlet. This layout is good as you can connect activities if you have a few for Ss to do in a particular order and have loose activity for fast finishers.

@@sbrennan8680 Wow you've got enough to make another whole video on Padlet. I didn't mention the canvas Padlet in my video but I use it often too.

@@CharliesLessons not bad for a woman who had never heard of Padlet, nor used Skype, Facebook or Zoom before the confinamiento last year!

Seems great for group lessons and activities. I wonder the suitability for 1 on 1 lessons though.

I guess with 1 to 1 classes, you as the teacher would have to step in and help collaborate.
