5 People on Death Row Who May Be Innocent

Some people may find this list to be anti-capital punishment. However, if the list was about wrongful convictions where the person is serving life, would this list be anti-prison too? Instead, we hope this list comes across as justice versus injustice. After all, not even the strongest proponents of capital punishment want innocent people to be executed. That would make them no better than the people they are executing.
Wrongful convictions are one of the worst types of injustices because not only is an innocent person punished, but the real guilty party goes free. The situation becomes even more dire when the person is sentenced to death.
These five people are currently sitting on death row and their cases are controversial. What do you think? Are these people guilty or innocent?

Darlie sounded incredibly hysterical on the 911 call recording there??? They said her son was dead when they arrived, the other died shortly after, she already had been exposed to the death and her hysteria was heard on the 911 call. When she was around the nurses it's likely she was in shock, or simply just numb. Everyone deals with grief differently.

erin mcelroy I agree. It bothers me when people are judged because of how they act during a crisis. I'm calm and collected, I know it's a defense mechanism because of growing up with a mom who was sick and I had to call 911 several times as a child. About a year ago my son cut himself and was bleeding a lot, my mom picked us up to go to the ER, she was emotional, an I was calm, just holding a cloth over his wound. I feel it, usually a while after a crisis, but if something terrible happened I'd get judged for not being emotional! When it's just how I deal, everyone is different!

i totally agree. i believe she was so traumatized that no one can say what is or isn't the way to act . if she sounded kinda fake on her 911 call i could understand. plus her injuries were so horrible. ill never understand why the innocence project or celebrity advocates never try to help her in 20 years now

yeah, i get pretty stoic when something really bad happens too, it's good on one hand because the relative calm lets me (re)act as needed as compared to someone panicking and unable to focus, but once everything is said and done i can be practically catatonic. like my body and mind just shut everything down because it can't take the level of upset at that point. it's one of multiple natural ways people may respond to horrible experiences. as Erin mentioned, likely she was in absolute shock, she just saw her babies die unexpectedly and so brutally, completely unable to save them, hardly anything worse that a person could experience :(

i actually think the 911 call implicates her. i feel like the hysteria is fake, and when shes saying "maam" you can hear the hysteria fade. the stuff she adds doesnt seem genuine "i dont even know who did this"....or even the very first thing she said was "same one came here. they broke in" all the genuine calls ive heard are on;ly focused on getting help."help pls send someone....maam what happened...please just send someone hes been stabbed/hes beelding everywhere " thats how youd expect it to go, but it doesnt..... instead it has all these extra parts that try to set up a scene..... the only times ive ever heard those things added is when the caller is hiding their guilt.

Miksmissus Yes! totally agree! "I touched the knife, oh if only we could've gotten prints" - there's no way in hell I'm adding that in when my children are bleeding to death. listen to genuine panicked 911 calls , then listen to her. she's fake. and I think hubby had something to do with it too.

Caller: A man stabbed me and my children! Operator: What's going on, ma'am? Sometimes, listening to these calls, I have to ask, do these 911 operators have to take an illiteracy test to get their jobs?
@JustKelso1993
@JustKelso1993 4 жыл бұрын
Sad thing is, you wouldn't last a day doing the job they do. They have to remain calm and ask questions. If they don't catch exactly what you say they have to ask you to repeat it or they cannot help you. The thing is, you should ALWAYS try to speak calmly and clearly to 911 operators in urgent situations so they can act quickly. Obviously that is easier said than done but that just means you have to be patient with them as they are to you. It is a tough job, give them some respect.

It's terrible,virtually every 911 operator that you hear on these types of videos seems to go out of their way to ask the most inappropriate,unnecessary questions.One that sticks in my mind is from a forensic files episode where the caller says to the 911 operator:"There's the dead body of a female in my apartment complex",to which the 911 operator replies,:"Is she breathing"?!
@adrielsebastian5216

She's screaming at the top of her lungs, the operator is undoubtedly trying to juggle talking to Darlie and relaying the information to the responders, give the operator some slack! It's an incredibly stressful situation and the operator is doing the best they could, I wouldn't fault them if they have to ask back to confirm. It's annoying, sure, but it's better than giving the wrong info to the first responders. Beside, what do you suggest they should do?

This is true. I had learned in my masters program that police officers have techniques (which technically are legal) to “trick” you into cooperating. They rely on the idea that you as a civilian don’t know the law as well as they do, and they use it as an advantage. It’s sleazy, but I’m sure very helpful when people DO actually commit crimes. For the people that are actually innocent though? Not so much…

If you believe Darlie Routier is innocent, you must believe this too: - An ”intruder" who cuts the screen with something sharp still needs the kitchen knife to commit the murders. Or... - An "intruder" magically makes his way into the kitchen, grabs the breadknife and then cuts the screen... to get inside - An "intruder" who brutally kills the boys, slashes Darlie's neck and arm without waking up light sleeping Darlie until it's too late - An "intruder" who doesn't leave a single trace, DNA, footprints, debris, dirt, etc, behind - An "intruder" who kills the boys but lets the only (adult) witness live - An "intruder" who is ignored by the usually very protective dog - An "intruder" who manages to pass a motion detector light without activating it - An "intruder" who takes a bloody sock with him, places it next to a trash can but leaves no DNA but Darlies on it - An "intruder" who takes the sock but leaves the murder weapon behind on the kitchen floor - An "intruder" who rolls the vacuum in a pool of blood and then overturns it - An "intruder" who stabs kids but ignores jewelry and valuables - Darlie's bloody footprints can appear under a shattered wine glass after it was shattered - Darlie didn't clean the sink, she wet towels to stop the bleeding on the boys which she explained after the clean sink was discovered - Darlie wet towels, yet no wet spots were found next to the boys (or anywhere else) - Darlie never got the boys' cast off blood spatter on her back shoulder despite forensic investigators found it there - Darlie fought with the intruder but couldn’t describe what he looked like - Darlie fought with the intruder but don’t remember the fight due to amnesia - Darlie's severe bruises on her forearms was never noticed by hospital staff, yet they clearly emerged after she was released

It sounds as though you've never been personally involved in a homicide. I have during my Army days in the Middle East. I'm gonna attempt to answer some of your questions via break down. Apologies for how long this post is likely to get. - An ”intruder" who cuts the screen with something sharp still needs the kitchen knife to commit the murders. Or... - An "intruder" magically makes his way into the kitchen, grabs the breadknife and then cuts the screen... to get inside It was pointed out that the knife was found laying around. Its quite easy, when in a scuffle or attempting to run, to drop it and if its dark, you aren't gonna waste a lot of time trying to find it in that situation. Also, a butter knife, in that situation, is a lot better than nothing at all. If it cuts screen or whatever is needed to escape, so be it. Also in the dark, a butter knife looks just like any other. - An "intruder" who doesn't leave a single trace, DNA, footprints, debris, dirt, etc, behind I've studied this case before and I do not recall ever hearing that cops put any serious effort into searching for any like they do now. They had the ability to do it but seemed to think it wasn't necessary at the time of the homicides. - An "intruder" who kills the boys but lets the only (adult) witness live The injury on her neck suggests, to me, that her living was entirely coincidental. If you read about the injury, the would missed her artery by 2 millimeters. Also her necklace was embedded in the wound and had to be surgically removed from it. To me, that suggests that the attacker grabbed her necklace from behind, slashed her throat, then while she was resisting or the grip on the necklace so tight, that it slipped deep into the wound. Thats not a miner ache or pain, thats pain enough for someone to pass out. - An "intruder" who is ignored by the usually very protective dog Dogs are easy to get around. One hot dog with a tranquilizer tossed over the fence 30 minutes earlier will take care of that threat. I have not heard of any tests done on the dog at the time to see if there was a sedative in its system. - An "intruder" who manages to pass a motion detector light without activating it Means absolutely nothing. In my area, everyone has motion sensor lights. They come on so much that neighbors don't notice anymore. - An "intruder" who takes a bloody sock with him, places it next to a trash can but leaves no DNA but Darlies on it All that means is that it was put over her mouth to stop the screams while her throat was being cut and later realized that they had it while running off. A set of latex medical gloves will prevent one from leaving DNA. - An "intruder" who rolls the vacuum in a pool of blood and then overturns it If I'm chasing someone down and they push a vacuum at me, I'm going to grab it and toss it aside and not care where it goes at that particular moment. You wouldn't either. - An "intruder" who stabs kids but ignores jewelry and valuables Robbery is far from the only reason someone would break in and kill. Plenty of serial killers out there that don't collect trophies. Also, more than one serial killer was suspected to be operating in the region at the time. - Darlie wet towels, yet no wet spots were found next to the boys (or anywhere else) They don't have to be soaking wet. Just a damp spot in the middle of the rag will do. - Darlie fought with the intruder but couldn’t describe what he looked like - Darlie fought with the intruder but don’t remember the fight due to amnesia If its in the dark and you are in shock, you aren't going to see much, if anything, about what the perp looks like and likely won't remember hardly of it anyway due to shock. - Darlie's severe bruises on her forearms was never noticed by hospital staff, yet they clearly emerged after she was released The former don't mean much. I've had large bruises and swelling form after a major surgery that staff either didn't notice or didn't bother to put in their notes. Also, they see so many people come through the hospital daily that I doubt they'd remember much about her accurately a year or more later. I'm not for or against her. Plenty of evidence both ways and police definitely botched this investigation. Whether intentionally or otherwise, only they know. As for whether she did it, I think there are possibly three people that know the truth; Her, possibly her husband, and if you believe she didn't do it, then the perp that did it.

I agree with all of those things. I used to believe in her innocence but after learning some new facts over recent months (the facts you mentioned), I'm not so sure. However... one thing that has never been explained is: why? Insurance money was minimal. It couldn't even cover the funerals. Her husband had a quarter million dollar policy. But I can't argue with the forensic facts and the motive doesn't have to be proven... but it's a hard thing to comprehend. Some say she was bitchy towards them but... LOTS of mothers are. It's just hard to comprehend. The funeral tape shit was just stupid. And HOW can Darren be excluded? No one has ever explained it. He was even been accused directly by the police. He was upstairs, in the house the whole time. That means, regardless of what happened, HE should KNOW more than he does, shouldn't he? And one more thing, DNA isn't at every scene. It's not just falling off ya. You have to leave something at the scene: sweat, blood, semen. If you don't leave those things, you don't leave much of a trace. It is possible, although a bit more unlikely than likely, that the killer could have handled the sock and not left DNA. The theory was it was used as a glove... but then she touches the knife? K, what purpose would she have using the sock as a glove?? Sorry, her case has just been heating up recently. Lot of debate. I'm beginning to believe more in the possibility of her guilt but... give me a motive and give me a reason Darren can't be excluded and I'm rock solid

Darlies case was completely botched. The police never even looked at anyone else. They already had it set in their mind that she was guilty. The wound to her neck alone could've killed her. I watch the 'Forensic Files' episode on this case recently. I think it was absolutely absurd that no one looked into the husband,. Especially after he said to detectives when they first arrived, after Darlie was taken to hospital and he wouldn't have know if she was in intensive care or even dead, "Have you seen Darlie? Isn't see beautiful, and doesn't she have gorgeous breasts?...I can see why someone came in. Good looking blonde, you know 38 double d's." Who the hell says that after their children have been murdered and not knowing if their wife was going to survive? Incredible suspicious to me! Kevin Harris -- unfortunately, even confessions can be coerced during long, grueling interrogations. There is a very sad case where a father admitted to raping and drowning his toddler daughter (Riley Fox), only to be completely exonerated by DNA evidence. In fact, they found the child in a creek and the police missed a ton of evidence at the crime scene -- possibly due to tunnel vision? Literally, the killer's boots were left at the scene with his last name written on the inside tag. But I do agree with you that the death penalty should require undeniable evidence, like DNA.

@@BbyJLP DNA evidence is only undeniable proof someone was around the dead person, not that they murdered them. Imagine if you will, the body of a raped, dead woman turns up with your DNA in the form of semen all over her. Police question you. You tell the truth: You met her on tinder, hooked up, and she left your apartment at noon. They ask you about some injuries you have. You claim, again truthfully, that you got in a scuffle the night before your hook up with a man who tried to mug you, but never bothered reporting the incident to the police. Nobody saw you in the intervening time frame and you were alone at home at the time the murder took place. The police conclude your Tinder date changed her mind, so you raped her, killed her and your injuries are from the struggle.You're arrested, convicted, put on death row and executed after 20 years. 10 years after your execution, the evidence is investigated with new forensic technology that does not yet exist, exonerating you. The only problem of course being that you're dead. Now, I don't believe the state should be able to execute its own citizens as a matter of principle, but even putting aside arguments of how much power is too much, the reality of the situation is that governmental institutions are made up of people. People, who often fuck up, badly. And even in cases they're not negligent, such as the hypothetical I provided, they can be wrong. Innocent people are incarcerated all the fucking time. Executing people only insures that if someone does fuck up, the mistake has irreversible consequences. There's no good reason any country should have a death penalty. It's more expensive than incarcerating people for life, there's no evidence it deters crime and there isn't even evidence it gives family members of victims closure.

No confessions!!! Charles Erickson Chris Tapp Central park jogger Laverne Pavlinak I could go on. And Henry Lucas is a prime example of showing someone photos of the body of the victim (not a school pic or one the family gave the police) or crime scene photos of the area to a suspect and then ask leading questions. That's also sloppy police work. DNA cleared Lucas of many of the confessions he gave. Sometimes police have lingering cold cases and want them cleared. In many countries you cannot lie to a suspect like telling them their DNA is at scene or someone saw them there, you MUST give them breaks between interrogations regardless if they want them, you reiterate over throughout the interrogation they can leave. England has not had a false confession since implementing this. And actually real confessions are on the rise. And no eye witness without anything else....Clarence Elkins is a good example of that.

I just recently watched the case about Darlie. They left out about the hospital saying she was calm and not concerned about her children well they forgot to mention that she was doped up from the drugs she was given at the hospital because of the life threatening stabbing she had in her neck. I remember hearing about this when this first happened. The news media had her guilty right away. They left out detail. Then a woman who wrote a book about his had her guilty. The same woman years later when she looked at all the evidence which some was left out of court realized she made a big mistake and felt Darlie was innocent. I was ready to hang her on the murder of her children but now after hearing all the evidence I know she didn't do it. I have learned one thing dont trust the news until all information, evidence is out there. Can you imagine being in her shoes?! I can't!

They also left out the fact that she didn't have bruises on her forearms when she was in the hospital, yet they emerged after she was released. The photos of her bruises are taken at the police department, not at the hospital. They also left out that Darlie and Darin tossed one of the teddy bear/stuffed animal people left on their yard as a shrine to the boys, as if it was a football while they were laughing and cheering. They also left out that the "intruder" managed to get inside and kill the boys without waking Darlie or the dog. Actually they left out quite a lot.

Also , her biggest advocate that was on the free Darlie campaign after receiving every bit of evidence and even buying replicas of the things in her house then said she is guilty and evil ! We and the prosecutors have been waiting for 18 years for the proof that the smudged fingerprint they lifted was different DNA . The fingerprint was to smudged however it showed that it was DNA from a female which could only be Darlies . The blood on the handle of the vacuum was also Darlie’s . The knife that cut the screen was proved to be her bread knife . You should be a detective I’m sure many would just walk free .

Darlie's case has bothered me for years. The cops zeroed in on her because they didn't like how she was acting. They also have a bloody finger print that does not match anyone in the family. I agree there's a lot of room for doubt in this case. Those bruises on her arms can't be faked. I've had some bad bruises from a car accident before, and they still didn't look anything like those. Also, I remember seeing her on a daytime talk show once (maybe Geraldo back in the 90's) and she said the video of her in the cemetery was only a small portion of what actually happened that day. The rest of the video shows the family (including Darlie) mourning like you would expect. She was also on heavy duty pain medication and/or sedatives during the "celebration". I still feel like the husband had something to do with the whole thing, even if he's never been charged. It's just a gut feeling.

First of all darlies was clinically depressed, after every birth of each child, the third child made her snap, she killed them because she wanted her no child life back she wanted to go rid of her problem. Second of all it doesn't make sense that a man would stab 2 boys so hard for that a knife nearly goes through there bodies then go to the mother and apparently "rape" her (she said in a statement when she was awoken she felt pressure down there referring to her vagina. A rape test kit confirmed she was not assaulted) then try to kill her by slitting her throat and pretty much missing, puts so much effort into killing 2 boys that could be killed easily and then not be bothered with the one that can form a sentence properly. Thirdly there were no fucking foot prints in the house of any man killing her kids and trying to kill her. You're telling me that after stabbing 2 boys brutally you wouldn't step in blood if you look at crime scene photos that would be nearly fucking impossible. Fourthly THEY FOUND BLOOD SPATTER ON HER SHIRT THAT COULD ONLY BE MADE BE HER STABBING SOMEONE AND VIOLENTLY LIFTING THE KNIFE TO MAKE BLOOD FLICK ON TO THE BACK OF HER SHIRT, WATCH FORENSIC FILES SEASON 3 EPISODE SOMETHING ON NETFLIX IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME

I'm black and see blacks go through this all the time with being wrongfully convicted (not saying that some of them don't deserve it) but this Darlie case rubs me the same way with knowing it's my people. It's so sad that this mother was brave enough to at least try to fend off the attackers, while her husband lay upstairs "sleep". He couldn't have slept through all that, me and my child's father can hear when our baby is crying even when we're sleeping upstairs from her. He's a bitch for doing that to his family. This woman is alive after he tried to have her killed because she had a necklace on and the necklace had to be surgically removed...that alone should say something. How can this woman gather enough strength to have a necklace carved so deep within her skin that it has to be surgically removed? This case should really be looked deeper into because something's not adding up.

@Chaneal B I couldn't agree more with you about Darlie's necklace needed to be surgically removed. Her necklace was soo deep from the cut that it couldn't just be "pulled out". That necklace is the only thing that kept her from being killed that night. I'm not sure about Darin's innocent or guilt, but I am convinced that the jury convicted Darlie on reasonable doubt instead of true evidence. They voted with their emotions and not with the facts. The jury was never allowed to beginning part of that gravesite video where she mourned for her children only the damning part because she didn't act like they wanted her to at the gravesite.

Darlie KILLED her boys...Unusual concern about fingerprints on the knife as her boys lay dying. 2. No blood or scuff marks on the backyard fence or gate. The gate was closed when police arrived, even though it was difficult to open and close. 3. Enough blood on the door leading to the garage that it dripped down the door, but no blood on or around the exit window in the garage. 4. Screen debris on the bread knife from the Routier’s kitchen. 5. No evidence whatsoever of a knife being dropped on the utility room floor. 6. The bloody knife imprint on the carpet near Devon and the heavy trail indicating a fresh supply of Darlie’s blood being fed to it. 7. The wine glass that somehow was knocked to the floor, despite testimony that it couldn’t have happened with a bump, jostle, or tip of the wine rack. 8. No cuts on Darlie’s feet, despite her claim of running through the kitchen numerous times, and at least twice in the dark. 9. The murder weapon was a knife from her own home. 10. Very minor displacement of furniture in the family room, indicative11. Her claim of having placed a towel on Damon’s back is directly contradicted by the first responders. 12. Darlie’s conflicting stories to various police officers, hospital employees, friends, and family members about what happened that night. 13. Although Darlie later claimed to have no memory of the attack and only a vague memory of the intruder leaving, she wrote people from jail while awaiting trial claiming, “I know who did it…I saw him!” 14. Darlie’s claim that five-year-old Damon, after being stabbed in the liver and lungs, was walking and speaking to her for some time after the intruder left. 15. Blood being washed and wiped away in and around the sink area. 16. No blood on the section of the couch where Darlie said her head was resting. 17. No cast-off blood in the family room or kitchen; just smudges or round drops indicating slow movement through the area. 18. Bruises on right arm which didn’t show up until more than 4 days after the murders. No blunt-trauma bruises anywhere else on her face or body. 19. Darlie clearly saying on the 911 call that “I was fighting!” and then changing it to “I was frightening” at trial. (This switcheroo coincided with her traumatic amnesia claim). 20. The boys’ cast-off blood on the shoulder and back of her nightshirt. 21. Darlie’s superficial wounds were drastically different from her sons’ deep, penetrating stab wounds. 22. The overturned vacuum cleaner in the kitchen, with broken glass and Darlie’s bloody footprints underneath. 23. Four cuts in Darlie’s nightshirt with no corresponding injuries. 24. Darin’s accounts being constantly expanded to explain his wife’s suspicious and contradictory statements. 25. Darlie’s suicide note written a month prior to the murders. 26. Financial problems so severe that their house was on the verge of foreclosure, and Darin’s application for a $5,000 vacation loan was turned down the day before the murders. 27. The complete lack of any evidence that someone else was in that house during the time of the murders. 28. The whole idea of a stranger walking through the pitch-black garage without bloodying anything, tripping over anything, disturbing the windowsill dust, or transferring blood inside and outside the garage. 29. Animal bowls outside, a large animal cage partly blocking the garage window - all strong deterrents for an intruder. 30. A vicious cat who, when approached, would hiss and flail around in his cage just a few feet from the couch. 31. Expensive jewelry and Darlie’s purse, in plain sight on the kitchen counter, were not taken. 32. The idea of an intruder stabbing two little boys to death for absolutely no reason, and leaving the adult who can identify him alive and armed with a knife.

Jake Martin Here here!!! Speaking as a European, I can honestly say that The USA's Criminal Injustice system scares, shocks and baffles the citizens in Europe. The fact that you have (proven) corrupt D.A's (just to clarify, I'm not saying they're ALL bad, but a far higher percentage thats SO fricken alarming! AND they have prosecutorial immunity!?! WTF?! The DA who prosecuted George Julius Stinney Jnr is GUILTY OF PREMEDITATED MURDER in our eyes; as is the one who prosecuted Edward Earl Jones. And the one who tried to get Shareef Cousins Jnr executed by failing to disclose exculpatory evidence is guilty of attempted murder; thank God he wasn't successful, but that wasn't down to him suddenly growing a conscience.... and THAT TWISTED BASTARD went on to become the Attorney General of Louisiana!?! Far too many "Win at all costs, no matter how many innocent peoples human rights you trample all over at your race to the "top"... That's ur problem right there: Prosecutors are playing a Political Game!! They have egos and aspirations waaay beyond being lawyers (at least the evil bastard ones do anyway) and they sure dont win by playing nice! Over here, in most of our countries, if a politician is caught "couriering favours" anywhere within the justice system, or vice versa, a massive scandal would erupt, with all involved either being seriously demoted, fired, or invited to resign on the spot with immediate effect, depending on the severity of the meddling. But its generally a Zero Tolerance policy. That way the various systems r kept totally apart. Also, the fact that in a lot of cases in the US it appears that the police can come up with a theory & then build a case around it is seriously fucked up! So are the cases where the only evidence is a jailhouse snitch (esp cos he's gonna get time off etc for testifying- sure why the F wouldn't he make shit up & get his deal for it; he's already doing time so its not exactly gonna effect his moral compass too much to put an innocent man on death row?!), or one minute piece of circumstantial evidence that cud be explained away plenty of other ways: Here, they would NEVER even lead to an arrest, never mind a courthouse, conviction or execution!! Your system ain't broken, its smashed into tiny smitherines!!

a lot of the assumptions authorities and others made about Darlie Routier are absurd. having a "flat" affect instead of hysterical is a completely normal possible reaction to such a situation. i'm surprised nurses wouldn't know that. i'd also want them to elaborate on why they think her wounds were self-inflicted, esp since one nearly killed her. cherry picking a clip of her looking happy at her son's grave is shitty too. it's not uncommon to have some moments of different moods while dealing with a trauma/tragedy like that, and like the narrator said if she was trying to play the victim she'd have put on a show of being miserable and depressed the whole time, I think she innocently let her real emotions show and there was a moment of happiness that she deeply needed -- being reminded by her sister that her happy little boy was smiling down from heaven and not suffering anymore? i think she's innocent and some of the insurance money theory involving the husband should maybe be looked into further. i am ashamed of our justice system. there is way too much doubt in this case to kill this poor woman.

Li Ka Couldn't have put it any better myself! The American Injustice System is a shambles! So much doubt and no bloody evidence in these cases; in Europe they'd not even have been arrested, never mind made it to a courtroom. Not to mention the sheer numbers of "win at all costs for a boost to my political profile, whether they're innocent or guilty" prosecutors you have, who have knowingly attempted, or actually managed to put innocents on death row (Shareef Cousins Jnr; Edward Earl Johnson; George Julius Stinney etc etc...) Over here we call that murder should they be executed while the prosecutor knows their innocent; or attempted murder if they only get as far as trying to do it: either way they should be stripped of their licence to practice law & thrown in the hell holes themselves; not given some absurd notion such as Prosecutorial Immunity!!.. possible signs of shock from stress can include feeling "nothing," numb, and/or empty. it's a well known possible reaction to trauma and sudden loss of people to death. just because some nurses say it, doesn't mean they are right. i've seen them mess things up plenty of times, unfortunately. and as soon as the possibility of someone having killed someone else is raised, opinions start automatically forming and people can read into things in ways that rationalize their initial belief.

I hate the fact that people use reactions to death in convictions. people grieve in many different ways. it might be very therapeutic for a mother to pretend her son is alive for a day and spray silly string over his grave. shock is also really, really common in these scenarios. its totally a normal and natural reaction to be numb and flat when receiving that kind of news.

From a mother's perspective: I lost my 19 yr old son (suicide) nearly three years ago. Different circumstances but that's irrelevant. When I found him, I was hysterical! On the 000 (australian version of 911) call, I was still hysterical. By the time the police and paramedics arrived (about 4 minutes) I was calm and numb, sitting at my dining table staring at nothing for what seemed like hours. It is a natural reaction what Darlie did, and what I did. No one should judge how someone *should* react to losing a child or anyone for that matter. Until they have experienced it, they have no idea. If she had have kept up the hysteria, they would have accused her of overdoing it to keep up the act. So, damned if you do, damned if you don't. (Thank you criminally listed. This was a great video and have subscribed.)

Darlie did it. Her wounds are not consistent with her son's. They were stabbed and she had basically superficial wounds. Why would this intruder not bring his own weapon? Why did the intruder cut the screen window but not use that weapon in the murder? Why did the killer leave the murder weapon? What was the killer's motive? Why was nothing stolen? Also, the blood spatter expert pretty much destroyed Darlie's story. That said, I am open to the possibility her husband was involved as well, though.

There's an episode of "Forensic Files" where they go over the blood evidence at length and it's extremely damning to Darlie. Especially the drops of her son's blood on the back of her shoulder, and the fact that the pattern of the blood indicated that the blood dripped onto her shoulder each time she raised the knife to stab her child again. Sickening and sad! I don't particularly like Darren, but there's no evidence against him whatsoever. Every bit of it is speculation. He did admit he was thinking of staging an insurance scam, but it had nothing to do with killing his children. He's just guilty of being a jackass. Ahh, the WordPress file is gone! What did it say?

AHorseWithExplosiveDiarrhea™ Any normal civilized person from a modern and civilized western country is against the death penalty! It says a lot about a country that hasn't managed to do away with that kind of punishment! (And it's not good) There's currently around 2.800 persons on deathrows in USA - it is estimated that around 4%~5% is completely innocent - and even more would not be convicted again if given a retrial where all the evidence was re-examined, flawed testimonies excluded, pseudo-scientific "evidence" excluded and evidence witheld by the prosecutors presented, (this doesn't mean all of them is neccesarily innocent, but that the evidence of guilt is far from the standard any court should accept)! Another problem is the use of shit like the video tape showing a mother celebrating the kids birthday at the graveyard - it is only to turn the jury against the woman and says NOTHING about guilt! The fact, that in many districts, the DA is an elected official and that the position often is used as a way into a political career, just makes it obvious to why so many DA's is reluctant to let people recieve a re-trial! Apparently there's enough Americans who would rather have more than 100 innocent people sitting on Deathrow, than risk a guilty man walks! Sure, European courts makes mistakes as well, but at least, they don't put people to death!

Also if it was someone else, I can't see the murderer not getting rid of the man first. Just in a logical sense he is going to present the biggest threat. However when I heard the theory about the husband it made sense as well. I wonder how credible the people who say he was looking to commit insurance fraud were.

The Darlie Routier case is interesting to me for two reasons. One, I remember as a teenager watching the gravesite footage and how bizarre I found it, and two because pretty recently I watched the Forensic Files episode about the case. I think the blood spatter is pretty damning. Things like pooled blood instead of blood spray and an imprint of where the knife fell on the carpet - Routier was not telling the truth about the crime scene. Now her husband may also have been involved, but I don't think that Darlie Routier is innocent.

@@kimmyfreak200 But how could anyone do all of that one a floor below where your husband is sleeping, without said husband hearing anything???? It just doesn't make sense to me. Also, when you hear the timing that would have been required... under 3 min to stab sons, plant the sock, cleaned up and then call 911 and wake her husband. Also, why wouldn't she wait until the kids are dead before waking the husband? I don't think she did it. I don't think she's telling the truth or is not remembering the truth correctly. But I still don't think she did it. Also, even though the nurses though her wounds were superficial, the medical examiner doesn't believe that to be true. Also, the birthday party could just as easily look like a woman desperately trying to feel close to her children she had just seen murdered. She appears very "up". Unnaturally so. Which would make sense given her children were just murdered. I would definitely be on the edge of hysteria if this happened to me and my kids. Also, how the hell are law enforcement permitted to plead the 5th??!! Also, her husband had previously tried to hire someone to burglar the house. Also, the husband failed multiple polygraphs asking about his involvement or knowledge of who killed his kids.

The moment the police pleaded the 5th that to was very suspect in nature given they had been conducting an illegal investigation. Also just because she didn't burst into tears of hearing her sons death (which is no doubt common) sometimes parents rather be in denial at first thus maybe explaining her reaction to this tragic news. Also the fact that some police believe she could have done all this in an incredibly short amount of time is utterly insane

I lived about a 1/2 mile from the Routiers when the children were murdered. One important piece of evidence that was not mentioned in this video and one of the main reasons Darlie was convicted is because the screen the was supposedly cut to gain entry, was cut from the inside of the house and her prints were the only ones found on the knife used to cut the screen.

I agree. It was proved that her blood "splatter" was inconsistent versus her children. Her blood in the house did not have splatter like her kids from the attack. And it was proved her blood drops were consistent with a murderer who would hold the knife point down and blood would drip from the knife. Her blood was found in pools...after her self inflicted wounds, she was standing with the knife pointing down. Her blood was running down her arm, onto the knife, and heavy drops were pooled on the floor. If I was a murderer, my ass would have made sure to kill her too. Not slice her to where she would survive. I've never thought she was innocent. And I think the husband had a hand in this as well.

I don't think Darlie committed the actual murders but I don't know if she's exactly innocent either.. it's really hard to say..if she was involved I think it was possibly a plan between both parents and maybe the person they hired attacked darlie on accident/in a panic /confused her for someone else- or he realized he had gone too far and just decided to try and kill her and ultimately ended up bailing,this would explain why her injuries weren't as severe as the boys yet still the neck injury was-it could have been the initial blow before the person realized he fucked up- or simply lost his nerve..it would also explain why darlie wouldn't tell the truth..the problem with that theory is the amount of money the children were insured for..just doesn't make sense which kind of makes me think her husband legitimately set her up ..And the killer lost his nerve when he found himself face to face with another adult,and he bailed ..

She's not innocent and that's why she's on death row. There is no evidence at all against Darin. This is a case of spousal revenge filicide imo.

I love all of your videos! Your voice is chilling and perfect for crime mysteries. I truly feel for Darlie, the poor woman. I’ve been doing extensive research on death row. I just have an overwhelming feeling that 3 of these people are innocent...one of them being Darlie. People react in different ways. She wasn’t hysterical when she found out her kids were dead because she knew already, she was there, she knew they weren’t going to make it...and she was probably in shock.

I believe that Darly, is totally innocent. One of the jurors said he would never have convicted her had he seen the the pictures of her injuries. Why didn't her husband hear screaming when she found the children?

The mother of the 2 boys Darlene is definitely innocent. There's no possible way she could have set up the crime scene the way it was in 2 minutes and 16 seconds. And then her husband the 4 most important questions from the polygraph test. Too bad they're not admissible in court. That scumbag knows who killed his family and he's letting his innocent wife sit on death row for it. It's sad the amount of innocent people that are U.N. jail for crimes they didn't commit and then these scumbags who have done heinous things run the streets freely.

there are huge chunks of facts missing from this video cuz i studied this case for months. there is an interview they did at the grave site talking about a flag their son kept planting and both the husband and darlie have this creepy smile the entire time only a week after their sons were murdered. they are laughing and darlie is holding her head down giggling. it reminded me of diane downs laughing in an interview and saying the same type story that some man shot her kids. she drove slowly to the hospital to ensure they'd be dead but she asked if i wanted me kids dead i wouldn't have taken them to an ER at all. she was a diagnosed psychopath also "kids are easy to conceive" she reminds me of darlie. also i watched hours of body language analysis of darlie she is a lying psycho! can't get her dam story straight she changes it all the time. the forensic evidence is strong against her

For the mother one, finding out your child has died is shocking. You don’t always react with sobbing immediately. You’re in a state of shock and often it makes you go numb and physically unable to show much emotion at all. After I lost my fourth child it was months before I actually cried over his death. I was entirely numb. Physically and emotionally. I was physically unable to cry. Her celebrating her child’s birthday in a happy setting instead of a depressing one is how you’re supposed to mourn for loved ones deaths. You celebrate the life they had. You don’t focus on the fact they’re gone forever. Of course you can still be sad over losing someone. But honor their death by celebrating the person they used to be, be happy over all the good memories.

DR also failed the polygraph. If you look at the facts, the kitchen was staged, broken glass on top of bloody trails, with a vacuum cleaner having been laid on top of that. Only DR’s blood droplets were in the kitchen, admitted immediately to having handled the knife (which came out of her own kitchen) and said to the 911 operator, “gosh you could’ve gotten prints off it if I hadn’t picked it up” - I keep hearing the public saying that maybe she’s not guilty, but no female would be on Texas’ Death Row without absolutely beyond a reasonable doubt, because we hardly ever (in Texas) like to do that. When I personally see her interviews with journalists, she seems to be smug and self-assured, and rambles on about how she’s wrongfully convicted, and to me she seems rehearsed and glib (and she’s had plenty of time to rehearse). Maybe it’s just me, but I also see that Darin Routier and their youngest seem to be going on with their lives without the “drama queen Darlie” ever touching them. Sounds like she was and always will be the gold-digging wife she portrayed herself to be, silly-string and gum-smacking incidents or not; she needs to come clean now and/or be judged by God Himself.
