Do you need a pass for winter camping/hiking? How safe is it to park?

People camp at lean-to or lake side, but I only do the day hiking in the park. Sometimes I have exactly same questions like yours. I found the website is useful: www.myharriman.com/harriman-state-park-faq-my-harriman/

You do not need a pass to camp or hike any time of the year. If you're driving up to camp overnight, you have to park in one of the lots. Legally you need to be within 100 feet of a shelter, but you don't have to sleep in the shelter.

@@JenNYC263 Is it open in the winter? Do they charge all year long? I know some places you can park any time of year although they only charge memorial day to labor day, while other place are completely closed even for parking during those times.

@@Snowboarder16 I don't want my car stolen or trashed. How does that make me a wimp?

Do you have to pay for parking at any of these parking lots? If it's just one time pay then I'm fine with it but I don't want to pay for parking multiple times if I'm stopping by a few lakes. Amazing video btw. Driving through Seven Lakes Dr in a few days and didn't know where to stop, this is exactly what I was looking for.

So far fees are only charged on the weekends at most of the areas. I believe after 6/20 some have fees every day.

Most fees are only between Memorial Day and Labor Day. But you get a card when you pay so you can just show that at the next lot. The fee is only for the one day. If you're going to do this a bit it might be cheaper to get an Empire Pass, that gives free parking at almost all state parks.
