One of my biggest mistake is borrowing my camera to friends. They often adjust the focus ring in autofocus mode because they assume the focus ring is to zoom in and zoom out. That causes the autofocus motor not working anymore and has to manual focus by myself.

@@dennishumbla5431 There is not - nor should there be. Remember that the majority of the time the images are not being taken by pros and the metadata is a massive privacy issue. When social media first started the metadata was not stripped, and bad actors and stalkers were able to use the geotagging features and similar metadata to actually track people down and do them harm. Now they strip it all to ensure that can't happen ever again.

I agree with all your tips to make better photos, except we have some difference in opinion on watermarks. Yes, I know another person could remove or clone over my watermarks. However, I try to keep the watermark small and semi transparent or colored to match the photo, so it does not draw attention from image. I believe an artist should sign his work (as the photo composition and the final treatment is my own), to help grow his brand or reputation, and promote his website. I agree in not over photoshopping the image to be radically different or loose the beauty of the original. Just a different opinion on trademark logos. Small and discreet is ideal if using them. Lots of pros go that way. Love your videos!

Great video again Miguel.... A quick question... I am doing more and more portrait photography with my A7III... i have interest in upgrading my camera (since I have a friend who wants to buy my current camera) and therefore would you suggest I upgrade it to the sony A7RIII or the newly launched A7RIV....?? ... or should I stay with my A7III??... your suggestions are highly appreciated ...
@MiguelQuilesJr5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! In regards to your question, I'd say it really all depends. I chose to upgrade my A7III/A7RIII and get 2 A7RIV's mainly due to the improved color science, better ergonomics, and eye-af in video which I actually used to shoot this video. If those things are important for you then its a great upgrade. If not, the A7RIII could be a nice upgrade now thanks to the price drop.

I just take 3-4 shots in a row and if I'm photographing someone I tell them this so they don't move a whole lot. This ensures a well in focus shot in at least one or two of the images. So pose, hold, 4 shots, ok move to this. Adding the grid lines helps with composition so that you don't need to look and make sure you didn't have the camera tilted way off.

Going over the top with FS is confusing to even some you tubers here. They think if it still retains texture, it's not overdone 😂. You can go crazy with it and make someone look like a plastic doll and still retain texture but they look like they have no bones underneath the skin. Shadows and highlights blend so much that it destroys the facial bone structure. And this technique used to be mostly for high end beauty work. It feels like people use it even for documentation purposes now.

Hi Miguel! Good advices. But with the Watermark I see that differently. I have already seen my concert pictures on Twitter. My watermark was gone and they pretended to be their photos. I know a photographer who still leaves his watermark there, and he works for a well-known band. That does not interest them at all. But with band pictures the fun stops. For all other photos I would not care. On my website I have the watermark across the picture. ( and they were stolen from my website ) If someone wants to buy a picture, can send me an email. You can see many pictures in many galleries of famous artists, photographers, painters, with the Watermark in their pictures ect. And they have been in the business for a long time. Has nothing to do with Mistakes. But you know, I appreciate your work. And like your last photo in Instagram. The face has character. You can see scars, a story behind it. But maybe he has none. And that's where the point is. Let's just think about it.

Watermark is not just to protect, it helps promoting their brand, famous photographers don't need watermark because they already have high popularity.

My point still stands. Watermarks used to promote your work, 9 times out of 10 will actually do the opposite. It will take away from your images.

@@MiguelQuilesJr Disagree. Photos reposted or taken out of post context like happens on FB and no one is the wiser who the photographer is to look them up. Watermark or sig does not have to be screaming across the photo, just do it tastefully so those who are interested will see it, those who are not wont give a sh!t.

The majority of the time they nail it, but if you have a wide open aperture like f/1.8 your wiggle room for error is non-existent. Best trick I've seen for making *certain* you got it at the time of the shoot is once the camera locks in, lay off AF or press Focus Hold, shoot, then shoot continuous and gently rock back and forth just a half-inch or so. The first shot should have it, but *just in case* the AF locked on an eyelash or something then one of those follow-up shots *will* have it for sure. Bonus Tip: When chimping, Sony camera bodies can be set that when you hit the zoom button when reviewing it jumps straight in to the focus point that was used, rather than just the center of the image. Easiest way by far to know you nailed it.
