Quality of life tip: When you pull a cart, you can instantly detach from it, by doing a dodge roll. No more panicy pointing down at the thin handlebars and press E when you are suddenly under attack.

I know this is an old video, but one trick I just learned is that you can put upgrades on shelves, allowing you to have two upgrades with one above the other. It may not be the same as burying them, but it does free up space.

Number two blew my mind. While you can't build on top of them, you could set up and area of floor for storage and build around that area.

Great vid Riggs. I would point out that on the chests in the floor, you can also do this post build if your house is on the ground (not elevated). Just remove the floor, dig the ground under it and set the chest. May need to fiddle around with ground height and add some wood pcs in the hole to line it all up, but its not a hard build or undoable if you are flat on the ground :)

1.) just use pickaxe so you dont need to carry cultivator. 5.) why burry it when all you have to do is to throw a floor over the pit. Works like charm without breaking anything. The chest floor is pretty cool.
@quicksandriggs
@quicksandriggs 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, a few different ways to take on each situation! 1. It can be hard sometimes to aim the pickaxe hit, especially while climbing, so the cultivator could still be useful. 5. If you are trying to actually hide them, then the floor doesn't do that as well, but I agree that this one isn't something always useful. I am curious to see if anyone finds some cool setups for it though!
@LocherYT
@LocherYT Жыл бұрын
I am gonna use the cultivator one because the area of effect is bigger and instant while you need to wait for the pickaxe animation. and it needs more stamina. Pros of using pickaxe is that it doesnt "waste" an inventory slot

You can fully bury them if you have something like a wooden post that touches the crafting bench / upgrade as well as intersects with the ground level.

My biggest life tip is to surround your base with a circle of decently spaced campfires. Campfires deters enemies from spawning. You can then use your hoe to cover the campfire with dirt. You can leave a gamp in your campfires to motivate enemies spawning from one controlled location (during raids) and then create death traps to "farm materials". I usually also place campfires along the roads between my bases or where i often pull my carts along. This gives me more time to enjoy the scenery while i pull my carts filled with iron from my ship to my base.

The burying is pretty much the same effect is for clipping items, just a little more advanced clipping. Personally I prefer to hollow out under my base to achieve the same effect. I'm almost always changing my buildings around so having access is very handy.

@@quicksandriggs Any chance you have plans for an island build? I've been experimenting and it's been an endless cycle of trial and error. The biggest issue is trying to expand the base wide enough to have a farm while being high enough storm waves don't flood the base.
@quicksandriggs
@quicksandriggs 3 жыл бұрын
@@teddy5004 I have not tried any islands building, but I can give it a shot. A pre-generated island or a makeshift terraformed one?
@teddy5004
@teddy5004 3 жыл бұрын
@@quicksandriggs I dont believe terraforming your own is possible. One of the major troubles I'm having is storms and bad weather causing waves to flood my island even while at maximum height, so pre-generated islands are the only ones tall enough to build on if you terraform to max height and build a bridge to the surface. I was considering carving my own island out of a meadows biome to avoid those waves... Makes docking your boat alot easier too.

The burying option is interesting... I tend to get annoyed at all the clutter I have to maneuver through, so at first I tried putting all the support items behind the workbench and forge. Then my friends and I decided to construct a big arse centralized beer hall and outside workshop, so I created a basement under the beer hall that had all the stuffs and kept it out of the way. Unsure how far up or down the forge/workbench applies, though.
@quicksandriggs
@quicksandriggs 3 жыл бұрын
I have only tried burying about 1 story deep (what's seen in the video) but it would be very helpful if the upgrades could reach farther than that. Comfort items reach 8m, if that distance reaches vertically (I assume it does) then they may work well if you decide to try and hide a table or something.
@phyrr2
@phyrr2 3 жыл бұрын
Each upgrade has a different minimum distance to contribute to a bench/forge score. A way to test is to build a 5x5 wood floor and place a bench or forge in the center. Then see how far it will allow you to place each upgrade. Tanning racks go farther than a forgr bellows for instance. It appears to be a spherical radius. I also do this for campfires. I will levitate a campfire or put it on the top 'floor' of a ruined stone tower. Keeps chimney build easy and short. I believe a campfire will reach up/down 5 regular wooden beam lengths, but test as you see fit. Also a campfire radius will reduce based on surroundings being considered a "sheltered" tile or not.

for the items you wanna put under the ground... you're making stuff complicated for your self. your base is not out doors! just remove the floors under your crafting station, dig a massive hole, put all the upgrades in the hole and snap floors tiles back above all the upgrades or comfort objects. I even put floor tiles in the pit so my upgrades are tidy down there.
@quicksandriggs

Yep, I’ve done the same in previous videos. This tip is specifically to try and stack multiple upgrades in the same square footage or to bury workbenches in order to prevent enemy spawns.

Another good video. Tip one is really helpful. I've been trying to use a pickaxe make JIT ledges while climbing big cliffs, but it's pretty random to get it to succeed. For chest floors, I use the bigger chests. Not my original idea, but man does it look awesome! Like trapdoors in the floor. See Pixelcave's video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZyYdXida8Rmd5I Instead of letting the bordering wood beams snap to the usual point, I shift them lower so they are almost flush to the floor (your tip 4 ;) so they look more integrated with the floor.

With the last tip. If you are building on the ground just dig out a basement putting the enhancements in it then put the bench on top. You can do the same thing on higher floors by having a hidden space behind a wall (think buildings with double thickness walls)

best QoL is Creator Mode Building and Flying when building a big House/Village. The grind is real. I played without the CM to begin with, and built many fine houses, dying on rooftops, etc. And grinding out the stone, and wood. But now I want to build much larger, and bigger areas. It would take me a month to get all the wood and stone and iron I need to build this by myself. So Creator mode it is.

Yep, if you are just working on building at the moment, nothing rivals creative mode!
