Cliff Williams has always been one of my top favorite bass players. I've always loved the tightness of his playing, and just how solid it is. He's always been the driving force of their rhythm sound.

You always hear people talk about how Phil Rudds drumming has a lot of depth and nuance mixed through the simplicity, never thought the same of Cliffs Williams bass but you're absolutely right. The man doesn't get nearly enough credit and theres a lot to learn from his playing. Great video!

Thanks for checking out this video. This a remake of an old video. Hopefully this makes for a more enjoyable watch.

Mate, that's a brilliant video, you nailed it! I've been into (obsessed with) ACDC since the 80s and since 2013 I've been the bassist for Damnation - The AC/DC Bon Scott era Tribute Band in Newcastle Australia (sneaky plug there, look us up .😆) and yours is the first video on KZbin that explains it right, in my view. There's a lot of cool stuff going on the the rhythm section of AC/DC. The subtleties in the music have been there from the start when those guys were mostly still teenagers. Incredible.

Cliff Williams has a very unique approach at what he does. Its as you said, "simple yet solid" Sometimes that's all you need. A great bassist like Cliff could much more but why? It connects magically with the drums and lays the solid foundation for all AC/DC has done. Well done, Cliff...well done, sir!🤘🏽🤘🏽

Some may not know Cliff lost the isolated use of his middle two fingers on his left hand in an accident before the black ice album and has learned to adapt with more use of his index finger and pinky finger.

Cliff is a great player and great guy. Met him in 86’ on the Who Made Who tour. He killed it on Powerage. What a way to start in a new band.

"High Voltage" in Australia was from Rob Bailey and two songs ("Stick Around" and "Love Song (Oh Jene)") from George Young. "T.N.T." to "Let There Be Rock" was from Mark Evans. Two songs from "T.N.T." ("High Voltage" and "School Days") and one song from "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (Probably "There's Gonna Be Some Rockin'") was from George too. "Cold Hearted Man" from "Powerage" was actually from Mark as it was recorded around "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" but was put to "Powerage" only on the European LP version.

I read an interview with ac/dc In Rolling Stone magazine a few years back where Cliff said “I play the same thing in every song”

Everyone calls Cliff Williams a simple player. I dont think so. Some of the most seemingly simplist ACDC basslines like Shot Down in Flames after the solo you dont even know if you are in time anymore. But it sounds so good and probably as important as Malcolm while Angus plays the solo then accentuale 1 note along with the guitars and your forearm is tarting to damn near burn and cramp then you get to play the chorus. Two different ways. But that simple bass line is the song. Cliff Williams was the perfect Rock and Roll bassist in my opinion. No funk or jazz just Rock and Roll laying 1/8ths down under the guitars.

To me I still wonder of using Stingray as bass of ACDC…. Somehow the precision would have suit to the stage better or Rickenbacker… aesthetics wise ah well any passive bass….
@HowToBass2 жыл бұрын
A P bass always looks great! It would be weird seeing Cliff without the stingray but I see your point.
@fyllingenoy1312 жыл бұрын
I saw an interview with Cliff where he said he likes the Stingray so much because it's so easy to play. It's a very comfortable bass with great ergonomics that just "sits" perfectly in your hands as you're playing it.

Cliff either uses a Heavy, Hard pick! Which Creates a certain sound perfect! For the Young Brother's 🎸

Cliff & Phil Rudd Just keep it simple! Both lay it down Heavy & Hard! "No riffs & no rolls!" Just a solid Punch 👊 of Blending into the Young Brothers rhythm 🎸 The Greatest Stripper Music ever Recorded! 😁 😆 😜

You dont play alongside the Young brothers for 40 years if you dont have the chops. If they wanted "flashy" bass Cliff wouldve been out the door, but hes perfect for the band so he stays

There is no such thing as a BEST bassist in the world, Einstein. No hay un MEJOR bajista en el mundo, Einstein. Todo es gusto. Tocar un millon de notas por hora no quiere decir Superman. Eso no es deporte.
@UserUli Жыл бұрын
If he went to an ACDC casting he wont be accepted. Because he couldnt play ACDC. And Cliff couldnt/wouldnt play Jamerson stufft. Thats music. Not sports.
