I bought the Panasonic GH6 nearly a year ago and it's been a fantastic little camera. With any kit you buy there will be flaws that you will have to live with and perhaps need to nurture a new skill to compensate for a feature that does not perform as expected. This is true of ANY camera system and the flaws on each system will annoy different people to varying degrees because we are all different and have different critical uses. So if a lens or a feature causes you an issue for shooting wildlife it might not be a problem for someone else who shoots interviews or property/real estate etc. We are all different, we have different uses and therefore 'limitations' will affect us all differently. There is also the question of skill. I have seen so many times two people using the same tool but one is not achieving as good a result as the other and it boiled down to ones competence and skill or lack of. I hear so many complaints about the lack of gh6 autofocus yet they are using it for purposes where autofocus is not critical and in some cases they are using it in circumstances where manual focus would make more sense. I can give you an example! Sitting at a desk speaking to a camera for youtube videos. Ok I understand why autofocus might be useful if there is a shallow dof and the presenter has a lot of in and out head movement, but if the dof is not critical and or there is not so much head movement then there is no focus on the planet more reliable than manual focus in these situations. In fact I would say once set up manual focus is preferred because it does not rely on any face tracking and also if you are in a dark environment often you can kiss goodbye to even sonys autofocus which cannot operate reliably in certain dark situations. This camera business has so many variables and there is such a vast spectrum of personality types in people that really blur objectivity. We can only do our best based on our experience which is never exhaustive, not even in Gerald Undone who gets it wrong from time to time.
@NOTLeavingLV Жыл бұрын
Tip for manual focus on Panasonic- use a monochrome screen and red peaking. I use a GX85 as an everyday carry camera (smaller than my G9) and a lot of vintage lenses. This camera has HORRID peaking but this combo salvages it. Even with its EVF with less than 1M pixels.

I am far from an expert at cameras. My first camera was a Sony a6400, and I upgraded to the Panasonic Lumix gh6. I love the lumix, I like the color, the functions, and pretty much everything about it. Yes, the autofocus is lacking, but I am a huge fan of manual focus, especially for my insect macro photography. Thing is, to my understanding Cinema cameras don't have auto focus. I don't think the black magic cameras have autofocus. Sony arguably has the best auto focus, but so long as your primary objective is not autofocus, I feel like the gh6 was a great purchase, at least for me. Now, I'm not a fanboy and it doesn't hurt my feelings that some people don't like this camera, and as the theme song was suggest, there is no perfect camera. Let me just say this, I have to agree and disagree with you on some points: - I own the GH6 too and the FX30 (used to have the A7SIII), I love the colors on the GH6, the Sony colors are not great, they've improved that's for sure, but the GH6 image is so pleasing in almost every situation, minimal color grade is needed. - The battery life sure is not amazing, my G9 lasted double of 1 battery on the GH6, but keep in mind that you're pushing higher specs on the GH6, specially the stabe, on my Sony is a joke in comparison, and you know this. - The 4k 120p I feel its on the same level of quality if not better than the A7SIII (from what I see in the footage I have, and some you showed) - the manual focus I have to sadly agree there, its not the sharpest sure, I've talked to Lumix about it, I feel my G9's view finder was sharper to be honest, or atleast the Image looked sharper, wish they fix this because yes, sometimes I'm second guessing too. but overall I love my GH6, I've tried several systems and models, and the GH6 keeps confirming how amazing it is, I'm happy owning both Sony and Panasonic, best of both worlds, and I feel you're just making excuses in somethings to sell it, sure do what you want its you money but those quirks are easy to live with, the A7SIII has a lot of stuff I don't like and its better on the FX30 even, and again, if M4/3 is on par with a FF and its better then some FF on the market, that says a lot, I say keep the GH6 its a wonderful camera and I use it for work (commercials, social media jobs, short films) and as a Hobby I use it for Wildlife too.

Apart from the missing viewfinder which is probably a big deal, the FX30 with the 11mm 1.8 and the 70-350mm is probably pretty close to what you are looking for. The crop in 4k120p isn’t bad for wildlife, animal eye detect autofocus, good stabilization(compared to other Sony cameras, not compared to Panasonic or Olympus) and very compact. If you want maximum reach you could throw the 200-600 on there. And a lens like your 20mm f1.8 would be nice for the studio on it. As soon as Kasey buys a camera we all start the timer until he makes a video about how much he needs to sell it because it no longer measures up. This has gotten so predictable that I am finally understanding that it is his deliberate strategy to drive views through trashing every camera on the planet, past, present, and future. I have already started a timer to count down until he posts a video of 5 reasons not to buy a Panasonic GH23, or a Canon R17, or a Fuji XT37 and a half. He would complain about the future Nikon, but we all know that they accidentally invented a space-time bending machine while trying to outdo Sony autofocus and they inadvertantly transported their factory into another dimension and they cannot figure out how to transport their futuristic cameras back to Earth because the janitor insists that the correct code is MIRRORLESS-D850 but none of the engineers believe him and they keep trying to punch in Pi but they can never get to the end of it to find out it is the wrong code.

Since he's been dabbling with topaz video AI anyway for example, a better gpu upgrade just for that is entirely justified imo. Great content as always 🙂 Don't forget you can get a little extra reach using the PIXEL/PIXEL mode when shooting in 4k and under. I find it impossible to spot focus without changing the peaking colour and sensitivity. Also if you drop the frame rate down a little you can use the Animal AF features.

You have to buy the Panasonic 100-400 or the Olympus 300 F4 for the GH6. Im always combining Olympus Lenses wtih Panasonic Bodys. "Best of both worlds." 200 mm simply isnt enogh for what you are doing.

I sold my GH5 to get the GH6...I did not like it and returned it. Then there was a fantastic deal on the GH6. I purchased it again...but I'm scratching my head as my A7siii clearly outperforms it. Most of my time is spent playing with my new little baby X100v...not sure why I need the middle GH6. Considering selling it too if I was not so heavily invested in the lens.

@SMGJohn Жыл бұрын
What does "cinematic" even mean? Dynamic range? Colours? Framing? The only conclusion I can come to is the fact that dynamic range is the only thing people can spot differently, yes the GH6 does indeed have better highlight roll offs but so did the Fuji X-H2s or the Panasonic S5, A7sIII is not even that far behind, so stop.

@@SMGJohn cinematic is a misnomer made up by sales people to sell stuff to smooth brain camera guys. its highly used within the colour grading circles of nazis that cry when they see 1/4000 of a shade of a colour out of spec and they go crazy. take the pepsi challenge and see if you can tell the diff with 8bit and 10 bit footage - the diff is minimal and with most people consuming content on their phones or 1080p monitors noone in the audience will tell the difference.. this cinematic word needs called out at every chance you can, its just wankers with cameras pretending to be filmmakers

As always an honest summary of facts. But you're repeating yourself. It almost sounds like you want all brands to be the same and be equal and on par. But then we would no longer have a choice. The whole point of being able to choose is that not all options are equal. Some have benefits or lack in one area, other have it in other areas. That makes the choice enjoyable. Because humans aren't all the same either. Full frame better in general quality in every condition ? Yes, but what if you have other areas if interest, not just top quality in challenging conditions. There's price, size, weight, lens-lineup, easy of use, creative features, feel, look and yes photography. The list goes on an on. I'm glad not all systems are equal. It allows me to choose what fits my need.
