First point- some members use their other projects to experiment with different things, as Corpse isn't meant to change all that much. Also, their status as forefather has always been a heavily debated topic, as they didn't bring anything new to the table, some even shunning it because it was one that popularized the genre (Ace Ventura), thus regarded by some as sell outs. Second point- earlier albums, like Butchered at Birth, had lyrical content that was more realistic in torture and murder. Later works, like Vile, delved more into fantasy, involving zombies and such. Since those more into the philosophy that metal is meant to force you to confront ideas that people find abhorrent, you'll find more in favor of the earlier works than the latter. Third point- The changing of the guard also shifted musical styles- Barnes years being more narratives, and the Corpsegrinder years being more verse-chorus-verse-chorus. You'll find plenty of fans that are fine, or even prefer Corpsgrinder's vocals, but loathe the more rock-structured songs. Fourth point- Slayer has changed a lot- starting with Seasons being a little bit more emotional, though more noticeable with the inclusion of some groove on Divine Intervention (or Gemini off of Undisputed Attitude). The only real change Corpse did was go from the afore mentioned narrative to verse-chorus, and even then they float.

I think a lot of music fans, inside/outside of Death Metal are turned off my CC's lyrics, album art, and perceived non changing style. Ultimately, It all comes down to personal taste. As a DM fan, for me no other band combines- speed, brutality, groove & catchy riffs as well as Cannibal Corpse do. To address some of the top 5 reasons you spoke of... 1) 'Not changing their style'. Listen to 'EBTL' then listen to 'A Skeleton Domain'. You can't even tell it's the same band!- So obviously their style has changed over the years, the biggest change in sound coming from the switch in singers bk in '95. I will say however, that since KILL (2006) they have been pretty much making the same record over and over, as good as they are. 'The Slayer of Death Metal' is an honor and a kinda an apt moniker, like Slayer of course their music has changed over the decades, but it's always come from the same place of authenticity. And also... Cannibal Corpse do actually sound like an extreme version of Slayer with heavier guitars, growled vox and blast beats. Slayer was most of the CC guys fav band growing up. 2) Lyrics/albums, obviously these turn many people off, but for me they define Death Metal - the most extreme subject matter that could be dreamt up. And that of course would be extreme gore and human death. Some music fans think this makes them kinda redundant, because they do this on every album but to me that kinda adds to the whole thing. Like a serial just thinks about killing, like a demented machine that can't be shut off.

Cool video man, sub! CC is a band I've listened to for near 20 years now. Motorhead and CC are my 2 favorite bands simply BECAUSE they stuck to their guns and release(d) quality Rock and Death Metal even when those things weren't "cool", and they both did it pretty consistently. Although I can appreciate the derivative argument, CC has also consistently progressed immensely as musicians and artists. I am impressed with how their sound has changed since Eaten Back to Life. I love all their albums and the most fun about them for me is how far they've come, waving the flag of fun, blood splattered, monster filled Death Metal.

i always could appreciate the instrumental part, but never liked the vocals, untill i heard death - crystal mountain. one song is all you need to want to listen to the album, one album is all you need to want to listen to a band's discography, one band is enough to get you to enjoy a genre, even if not in its entirety yet it's perfectly ok for people to not like death metal

Great video, like always! It's nice to see videos/reviews of metal bands being made by an actual fan of metal. Keep up the good work! I love the new and old styles of death metal and most of the sub-genres, but Cannibal Corpse remains to be my favorite death metal band. If they didn't change enough, I'd get bored. If they changed too much, they'd eventually lose what I love the most about them. I think they've done everything just right!

Despite the simplicity of their music, It is cannibal's live image and presence that is a force to be reckoned with. Why can't a metal fan enjoy something technical like Revocation or Opeth and still enjoy Slayer and Cannibal? Both the latter bands have got their live act down to a formidable essence that they can repeat, over and over for months at a time., just because they've been doing it so long, and it's fantastic.

I find Cannibal has changed their style quite a lot, especially on the first 6 albums. From Tomb to The Bleeding to Vile to Gallery to Bloodthirst, they sound very different in my opinion. After Bloodthirst however, they seemed to have found their style and the changes are quite small between the albums. One of my favorite bands ever. If there is one thing they should do in terms of branching out though, it's Alex Webster writing a song for Babymetal. haha

I love vocals with grit and aggression, but if they don't also hit notes to create some actual melody they are unlistenable for me. great Metal vocalists include Maynard James Keenan, David Draiman, Matt Drake, Elias Soriano, Christina Scabbia, Chino Moreno, Tim Williams of Bloodsimple, Yann Linger of Klone, and yes James Hetfield.

the music of their songs is fine, its the lyrics i have a problem with. they're so unnecessarily vulgar, to the point where you just cringe when you hear them. dont get me wrong, i appreciate death metal, i absolutely love it, but i feel as though their crude, sexual lyrics are present for the sake of being grotesque and thats it. there's no meaning in screaming about mutilated genitals, and some people just need to understand that.

When you brought up the whole slayer thing, you also have to realize that it's one of those bands that everyone has a shirt and everyone has one or two songs downloaded on their phones but very few people actually care about that band.

There’re so many bands which have tried to change their sound a little bit with an album but ended up only getting hate for it (Crytopsy - The Undpoken King, Deicide - Till Death Do Us Part, Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus, Megadeth - Metallica - St. Anger, Suffocation - Souls To Deny, Megadeth - Super Collider etc.) Who cares if CC sticks to their sound? There’s at least less to be disappointed about. And if someone doesn’t like it they might as well listen to another band.

I agree that cannibal corpse has a very similar sound but I love the sound. I think everyone has a frequency of metal or whatever they love. I love this one and that’s my choice, and I applaud anyone that has a band they love that they love that people talk shit on. Fuck em, keep head bangin’. Lol I’m 13 and in middle school and I love cannibal corpse and all sub genres of metal. So I play like Suicide Silence, I wrestled a bear once, SLAYYYYYEEEERRRR, and cannibal corpse with my jbl flip 4 speaker on my way to school and at school. It is absolutely hilarious to head bang and people just have this terrified and questioning face. Especially all the hype beasts who listen to generic soundcloud rappers.

I hate death metal as i find constant snare drum snapping and blast beats annoying but CC and Six feet under got it right in my book, nice mix of actual riffing and drumming without just going full on noise maker and having somewat of a melody

I don't love all of their albums, but their sound fluctuates and each album has a signature sound to it. I love grass roots death metal because a lot of the crazy dissonant tech death gets cumbersome after a while.

Cannibal corpses music has changed over the years: they went from fast paced brutal death metal in the early 90s to slow paced technical death metal around the late 90s and 2000s. Lyrically they haven't changed though

The thing I appreciate about Death Metal though is bands like Cannibal Corpse and all the other originals may not always have experimented with change, but they were at least all very different from one another. I think it's when a genre becomes cookie cutter is when it goes downhill, because it takes the legs out from under the real bands out there who are bashing out something different but good. So imo it's not always as important to change as it is to stick to what your about when it's original and real.
