I'm glad to see a review of one of my favorite books of all time. It's desert-island kind of book. It makes you cry, but it also makes you laugh, scares you, makes you feel love and pity and disgust...it's got everything. And I agree, don't watch any movies first! They abridge it too much. Dickens writes with such clarity that you will see everything and feel everything, no movie ever made from this book does it justice.

I’m re reading Great Expectations. It was one novel that changed my life. I’m re visiting all the many layers and characters with a more mature eye. Wonderful.

I´m going to be reading ¨Great Expectations¨ soon after completing ¨Spock´s World¨ by Diane Duane. ¨Great Expectations¨ was referenced in a novel that my father wrote a long ago before he passed away. My father didn´t enjoy the ending of ¨Great Expectations¨. If he were alive today, I´d tell him that not all good stories end in a positive, ideal way. My argument wouldn´t be for the sake of argument because fate is the thing we cannot control.

i read this book when i was 11 or 12, i can't remember and it took me ages to get through. i didn't hate though and i didn't love it, i think i should give it a re-read now that i'm a bit older because i think i could probably understand it better now

I LOVED this! Great Expectations was my favorite read from last year and all of your reasons were so great. Miss Haversham is the worst/best character. I also think that Joe is one of my favorite literary characters of all time. He is just too good for this world 😭😭😭

KristensLibrary hey thanks Kristen! I think maybe you need to be in the right frame of mind to read it and perhaps with lots of time handy. Just because it is so different to what we're all used to these days. Perfect backpacking book! So you just have to plan a long holiday just so you can read this Book! Thanks, you're inspiring me to do more of them :)

I read this in high school, but I don't remember any of this. I love books where all the details are thought out. I call them perfect books. I don't usually read classics, but I may have to pick this one up again. Good vid!

@@happyelephantbooks8803 Hello! I think you're right. I'm finishing reading "The scarlet letter" by Hawthorne for my teaching career, and at the beginning it was like a heavy load and I wasn't interested at all. But when I got into the book and the characters I found it so enjoyable and attractive that now I'm wishing to know what will happen next! I got to your video because the next novel in my course is "Great expectations", and I wanted to get an idea about the story. So I want to thank you so much for your video and I'm looking forward to starting reading it very soon. Regards and good luck with your channel! I'm Silvia from Uruguay.

I don't think I vibe with this book. I would agree to most of the things you mentioned, but somehow it didn't hit me in my feels as much as I expected. Granted, I haven't read the last five chapters yet, but somehow it doesn't really do much for me. I do think it has interesting perspectives on integrity and character development, but it's missing something. I still hope the ending will add a few points though.

I like it very much the review. I read the book and it was awesome. I agree, the friendship Joe and pip is heartbreaking. I think the book is among the most important of Dickens bibliographie, I have read a few more by him but this one is my favorite. I also want to congratulate you for the background music, I like a lot Tchaikovsky 🥇😉💖🎧 good job. Looking forward to more reviews. Best regards 🏆
