I feel very spoiled now, growing up in Helsinki (now living in Vantaa) with all of these perks and not even actively questioning the fact that other places can be worse off when it comes to infrastructure. Great video, highlighting things that might not be obvious for us but that someone with a broader perspective reacts to!

Part of the cleaning up after a house party or a gathering at the summer cabin is collecting the bottles and cans and giving them to the student of the group to cash. Or anyone feeling the pinch financially. It's not the finest party favor but it is practical 😅

This is true of all of Finland, really; well, public transit can be a bit shakier out in the boonies, it does exist but since the need is lesser, the service is also. Helsinki is great and all but honestly I think things just get better as you move to smaller cities in many ways.

Such a beautiful video! Thanks for reminding me of how good we have it here. I get the same feeling whenever I return from abroad. It's like 'everything' works here. Granted, the cost of living in Helsinki can be quite high, but you get a lot for that price. Also, the cinematography in this video was really good! The soundtrack was pleasant as well, very good balance.

"..Making the city feel natural and organic, as though the buildings themselves grew out of the ground.." It's no wonder why J. R. R. Tolkien himself was impressed by their culture and way of living, so much so that he pictured Finnish people as forest living elves, and invented Elvish language which was influenced by the phonology and structure of Finnish.

ironically, originally being from the Finnish countryside, Helsinki feels hustling and bustling :P you'll find people in the countryside who are worried about going to the "big city" since there are so many reports of crime and drugs and shit. There isn't, not by any standard, but since the average finnish village has... no... crime...

Awesome insights and great video! Thank You! I can say that I agree with all of the points brought out. I lived in Helsinki for couple of years on and off before finally moving back to Estonia. One of the things I miss the most from that time is the "Helsinki Football" Facebook group of random people coming together every Sunday morning for 2hrs to play. It was a great amount of random people (men and sometimes women) from all over the world coming together to share the love to the sport and mutual respect. Sometimes there was ambulance involved :D (for sport injuries), but it was awesome to play sports, talk and share the expat experience with somebody else also. These mornings brought me many positive moments and belief in human society as general, as have brought your videos that I have watched so far. Following You now!

Well don't worry, crime is gonna be up in Finland because the government are making cuts to the social security that is the sole reason why it's so low in the first place. Water is cheap and fresh which is great but we do have hunger with the lines to food aid getting longer by the day and the price of rent and food being higher which is why there are more and more ppl collecting bottles to try and survive. People who need aid are largely elderly, students, families and disabled, many of which can't access the medical system anymore due to cuts and running down of the public system after investments in hospital buildings but not the staff. We have the highest amounts of drug deaths of youth in the EU, also one of the highest in violence towards women (though its often done between four walls so you cant see it) and the longer you live here you will learn about systemic racism in job seeking, apartment seeking and in medical settings that makes life very hard and isolates expats which is why most who have a choice choose to leave. The government has put profits over people here too, it's inescapable for things to go through the enshittening process under the capitalist system that squeezes people for its juice.

These types of videos and experiences are important since many Finnish people tend to complain because of too many first world problems without realizing how good they have it. Grass is greener on the other side 😛 Of course there's always problems to fix no matter what but sometimes a reality check is nice so you stop wasting energy on things that don't really matter

It’s so easy to start to take these things for granted. One needs to be reminded every now and then that having clean drinking water, or being able to walk outside and feeling safe no matter where and what time of the day it is, or having access to nature, are something to be grateful for and not something that is self-evident. Thanks for making the video :)

I liked the mood you were able to build in this video, as a finnish person. I grew up in a smaller place 45 minute drive from helsinki and i've been living in this city now for 20+ years. I enjoy living in Helsinki more than pretty much anywhere else. You get the best of both worlds, culture, good food and things to do while enjoying the anonymity of a city denizen and having a safe environment. Having spent time in many large cities in asia and america, the tap water is the first thing you notice going abroad for sure. Going on adventures abroad is fun, but it always feels great to come home to a fresh glass of clean water :)

One would have to be either in desperate need for immediate car transport for e.g. a designer piece of furniture in a downtown shop, just barking mad, or so filthy rich to afford the parking fees in the center of Helsinki to even approach the area with a car. The public transport rocks, and home delivery is a good choice. And the drinkinkig water, I can attest to its clean and refreshing qualities. The main contributor is the Päijänne tunnel , a 120 km underground water tunnel from the bottom of lake Päijänne, originating in Asikkala. In Espoo (just west of Helsinki) we have much of the same goodness, but in the summer time some local surface waters (filtered through kilometers long gravel beds) are are added, and that portion is not as good, but good nevertheless.
