Thanks for this video -- I'm starting an EMT course in a few weeks and every single person I've told has nothing but cautioned me. I have continued to try and find other opinions and honestly your closing remark helped me to find confidence in how I feel about it. I still don't know why I'm so attracted to this job even after everything I've heard about it, but I feel so incredibly strongly it's the exact job I want and need. Maybe I never will know or be able to say why, and that's completely okay too.

for anyone who watched this video. It really depends on who you are and how you perceive the meaning of being a paramedic. It's not as interesting as in the movies, but it's more rewarding. I can honestly tell you the first time you see traumatizing shit your perspective on life will completely change and you will not want to ever talk about it ever again. Ive worked as an EMT for about a year now give or take a month or two. Shit sucks at the start, but it's so nerve wracking that you get over it. My best advice is to remember why you did the job in the beginning and remember the people you saved. Life sucks at times especially when you lose someone... words can't explain how fuckn hurtful it is. But, I would have rather been there trying my very fuckn best than not being there at all. It's what we trained to do, all of our experiences and studying was to help the diabetic who forgot to take their insulin and the person involved in a TC. It's a very rewarding job and if you're in a relationship, setup a timed vent with your s/o so that you dont keep it bottled in. Burnout is real but it goes away.

Plus if someone isn’t breathing after few minutes they’re gonna lose their pulse anyways. if you wanna read more about it check this out www.verywellhealth.com/hands-only-cpr-no-pulse-check-needed-3971057 This is a video I made about the same topic kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJPViWZ3qt-qfNE Hope this clarified things.

Im glad he is being honest, but at the same time I think most people by the time they finish even just Emt class they realize all these things. Glad to hear your closing statements. Somewhere along the way Paramedics and EMTs got all mixed up. It’s not a hero job, it’s a service job and it’s an honor to help people when they’re sick or injured. If you go into the job looking for what you can get out of it, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Go into the job thinking about what you could do for others, whether they deserve it or not, and you’ll be much happier.

I went through my EMT-B training and passed the National Registry a few years back. I worked as an AEMT for like 5 months before finally leaving for multiple reasons. The people you work with can make or break the entire experience. Also, pay that isn't even enough to survive is a major factor and the financial stress plus all the PTSD associated with seeing a lot of suffering. Idk, you really have to bend over back for the state and really love saving lives to be able to commit to such a job. I do commend for those who continue doing it despite all the negatives associated with the job.

I was a PCP for 40 years, People have asked me if i had it all to do over again would i do it, HELL NO, for all the BS and Crap you have to go through not only with calls but with colleagues and employer, fighting with dispatch to try and convince them that they actually DON"T have the big picture, disgraceful wages and benefits, extremely poor working conditions, I would rather flip hamburgers. If you are just looking for a career, then find something else, it truly is not worth dedicating your life to do this just for people to type "we respect what you do" rather than fight for you when you need them to get their support when you are in a labor dispute with your employer for decent working conditions, F#@k that, find something much more rewarding where you don't get SHI* on from every angle..... LITERALLY. I guess my name says it all IMPO

Meanwhile, I'm doing my accounting job, crying over a "not responding" excel file. My job is so boring.

I am in love with my paramedic right now, it was like being kissed by a prince. But I don't know his name or where he is based, anyway I wouldn't let him take me to the hospital
