Those are all the exact reasons I got a DR. It feels heavy to me, but if were any lighter, it may not do as good on the highway. I think if most dual sport/adventure riders were honest, the DR would be the bike that checks most of the boxes and will meet most of their needs. Lots of people are just enamored with the latest and greatest tech like KTMs and BMWs, Huskies etc. I’d much rather live with my DR or even a Honda XR650L personally.

I used to have a Honda XR650L, and now I have a DR650 that I've had for years. Trust me, the DR650 is MUCH smoother to ride than the XR on the street, and is also easier to ride off-road too, in my experience anyway. The XR is just way too tall, and for me anyway, more difficult to handle and deal with. Also the XR runs very hot all the time, it has no oil cooler like the DR. The DR will never overhead with that large oil cooler.

Honestly if you want to do any real off road, the 500x is just too bulky in my opinion. Its not much slimmer if any than the Africa twin unless they slimmed it down a ton with the brand new one that I haven't seen yet. Its great for mild stuff and lots of highway though!

@@southerndualsport3827 Yes, even the newer versions of the CB500X are essentially street bikes in ADV clothing, though the newer ones take a better stab at it. I have a 2013 and it is a ton of fun on the street and the open road. But off road, especially for an inexperienced off roader like myself, it would not be my choice. Fire roads and mild jeep trails are OK.

Solid analysis! I personally ride the XRL, but for all the same reasons...though it's a little tall and had to add the oil cooler. I've recently considered the Tenere 700, but the fact that you can't buy one for at least 6 months because of the lack of availability on electronics/components overseas is just another testament as to why we've got the right bikes. I'm sticking with our dinosaurs!

Yes, the old Hondas are great bikes but as you said they are pretty tall, and for me at 5'11" it is just too high to be comfortable in the technical stuff. 👍🏻🍻

Yesterday , my brother and I took a 200 mile trip to an old cantina in Idaho. My brother rides a '17 DL 650 and I have a '17 DR 650. Most of the trip was on 2 lane highway. The bike is just about to turn 10k miles. Not one problem in 4 years. I rode it down to Mexico and it will cruise all day at 75-80mph.50 plus mpg. I truly respect this bike. I put in some FFRC plex valves in the forks - what a difference. Try one guys, you'll love it!

Cogent Mojave and Cogent Emus here. They will transform your bike. Never tried the plex valves but expect similar to cogent emu. Minor mods on the DR go a LOOOOOOOONG way. I also highly recommend a pipe, airbox mod and a slide carb. Wakes the bike up from its sleepieness and puts it on a mix of cocaine and adoral. Best part is you can just forget buying front tires as they will never touch the ground again.

As a fellow DR650 owner, I completely agree with all five points that you made. And it's all true, it's a great bike and lots of fun. Mine has never given me any trouble at all. I use mine mostly for off-roading in Colorado. The great thing about it too, is being able to actually ride on the highway, at highway speeds, easily, to get to the trails. This bike will not beat you up on or off road, it's just a great balance of on and off road capabilities.

Great summary of the humble DR, I love mine for all those reasons. I've done the big ADV bike thing and to be fair, they are great for standard Gravel roads and touring but they are a big animal to keep under control and more often than not, to pretty to drop. Gave mine an unscheduled wash in a river last week, got it out, drained the water, started like a champ. I reckon if Charlie and Ewan had DR650's, they could've done "The long way around an around an around"

Great video, very informative from a guy who like most of us always thinks of having to fix your bike miles and miles from anywhere out in the bush. Any bike that I'm serious about getting offroad and out into the wilderness or even just being out in the desert miles from any help is not going to be a liquid-cooled fuel injected bike, there's just too many things to go wrong on you there (water pump, hoses, thermostat, electric fuel pump, wiring, EFI computer hardware/software, fuel injectors). The object of a textbook adventure bike is SIMPLICITY, and the DR650 has that hands down.

The DR650 is still one of the most versatile dualsports out there, especially if you consider its aftermarket support for power mods, suspension, ergos, comfort, fuel, luggage, etc. A DR790 with a hot cam and fully-adjustable suspension can be stripped to 320lb curb, which is similar weight to some 250cc dualsports...but with ridiculous power/torque/simplicity. The Tenere 700 is a great more modern model, but it's a bit more $$, complexity, and weight. I've ridden DRs halfway across a continent in a day. I've done 1000mile days. I've ripped the same DR in rutty, rooty, sandy, muddy, rocky singletrack...by just pulling off the luggage. I've slabbed 2up with luggage for hours. Solo, I like it better on slab than the KLR. The KLR just has slightly more space for a bigger rider/passenger.

Slight correction, in it's stock form, the carb is vacuum fed. If you put an aftermarket tank on and plug the vacuum feed, then it is gravity fed. It has it's quirks, but if you know that going in and are willing to put the time and money into rectifying those, its still cheaper than a KTM and is a bullet proof bike.

Great video. I just bought a new 2019 DR 650 for all of the reasons you mentioned and a reason of my own. I have been riding big v twin Harleys for years but recently moved to the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. There is just too many great scenic gravel and dirt roads and trails to explore. I plan to do a few solo backwoods camping trips. Reliability is a big factor. Glad to subscribe.

Thinking about a T7 or base Africa Twin for longer trips, but likely will keep the Dr650 as well or maybe trade for a Drz 400 to be slightly more off road oriented. If limited to only one bike however, a modded DR is hard to beat.

A DR can be made pretty dirty, yet still be good for slabbing. Some mods improve the bike at both, like appropriate springs and improved damping, or swapping to a plastic 4-5gal tank. Some mods can improve one without hurting the other (much), like a Seat Concepts kit, FAR mirrors, Li battery, 244 or K257D rear/TR8 or K257D front, or GSXR Ti muff.

I see you don´t mention the 2 x 4 factory seat, but this is nothing compared with the benefits you mention, I had my seat locally modified so I can make 400 to 500 kms twice a week weather permiting, I really appreciate how light this bike is and yes, it can easily go all day, I usually travel at 65-70 mph with no trouble at all, and if you have lots of bumpy roads like me, it behaves wonderfully, this is what I appreciate the most. Used and aftermarket parts for DRs are all over. A courier in Oz rode his DR for over 270K miles, honed the bore, re-ringed the piston, and then rode some more. Break the frame? Order another on eBay. Blow the motor? Order another on eBay. I recently couldn't get a new pilot jet from Bike Bandit after my DR sat most of the winter. My local Suzuki dealer was a bit expensive. 'Pulled the pilot jet out of the carb, stuck a sharpened fish-hook through the blockage crud, reassembled the carb, fired the DR up on the first push of the button...after sitting for months.

I agree, though i have to say the KLR barely makes that list. Esp the latest version of it. Big fat whale of a bike you hope never falls over. Granted i ride alongside a guy who swears by his and does all that my dr does, but.... he works so hard to make that happen. IMHO, a DL650 would be a much better stub in for the KLR these days as they are equally competent and similarly weighted. KLR may have a leg up on extreme reliability but, still, id run that risk for the benefits of the DL.

That rebuild kit is a great idea. Never thought of taking one along on an outing. Even if you can't rebuild one, chances are you can find someone that can and you already have the stuff. Maybe an extra spark plug and plug wire. You said mods.. I almost left a comment about mods😂. How about throttle and clutch cables. Maybe toss an extra in the bag if a long trip far from civilization 😂

I was thinking in the same direction, so I bought an extra clutch cable. After looking at the routing for it, I decided to install it from the comfort of home. I'm REALLY glad that I did! It was a much more involved job than I anticipated. Not something I'd want to do in the middle of nowhere in possible rain or mud. Now My spare clutch, cable is in place, next to the original with sandwich bags and grease zip-tied over the ends. If my cable breaks, it's a 5 minute job to pull out the old cable ends, and insert the new.

Air/Oil cooled. That fin thing needs protecting. That carb is great, but the fuel filter sux, so put an inline in between factory one and tank. (The factory one is INSIDE the fuel line and is so tiny, it junks up fast. A big clear aftermarket you can see its full of junk, but the filter is much bigger, so you can get somewhere and remove it and blow or back flush it clean.) I really don't see much difference between KLR and DR on highway, besides the DR is light, so crosswinds and semi's do move you around a bit. I guess that's what the rider is for. Great video, dude! Wire that neutral sending units screws and yer golden.

Actually its the Yenkro Fairing. The safari one you are talking about is kind of funny looking in my opinion. The dash comes with the kit but I'm using a custom permanent mounted cell phone with special software. There is a video all about it on my channel please check it out!😁🍻👍🏻

I agree with all your reasons except for favoring carbs. I've owned over a dozen bikes. Half with carbs, half with FI. I've had to mess with every carb and never touched nor had issues with FI.

Mostly I'm concerned with repairability in the field. If you lose a fuel pump or injector in the middle of nowhere, you're walking out with injection. My carb bike can easily be repaired with simple things to get me out. That is my #1 reason for favoring carbs. I know if I carry a 3oz carb kit in my bag there is literally nothing I can't fix fuel wise. You have pumps, injectors filters, wires, at least 3 sensors, etc. that can and will all fail eventually. Sure, for CONVENIENCE EFI is great, no clogging no maintenance etc. But out 200 miles in the desert, I'll take my carb 100%. 👍🏻

The stock 1.5+ inch more ground clearance, compared to the KLR is what sells me. The better stock suspension than the KLR intrigued me. The higher top speed at lower RPM and the better mileage than the KLR is what brought the DR to the table. All of your points are spot on. The KLR is unsure if it is an ADV or a dual sport. The DR is positive it's a dual sport, but adventures just fine with luggage. Just wish it would come stock with an optional 26-liter tank. It's completely valid not wanting to make big jumps with a 26-liter tank, but the choice would be nice, from Suzuki. Thank goodness for third parties.

I own a DRZ400 and have been debating whether to switch to a DR. As fun as the DR is (have ridden one, that bottom end torque is addictive), I think for me I'd stick with the DRZ as it is lighter and with a few cheap mods can put out as much power as the DR. But I think I will still purchase a DR in the future to have in the garage for random trips since older ones can be had for very cheap nowadays (around 2k USD).

Yes, if you don't need to do much highway travel (no more than maybe 20 miles at a time in my opinion) the DRZ is a great choice. Its lighter and more peppy than the DR. It just buzzes too much at 65-70 mph for me. 👍🏻

I bought my first DR back in 1998 to use as a courier bike here in Melbourne Australia, clocked up 115,000 Klm’s in 2 years, never had an issue, sadly sold it when I found other work. Went back to being a courier in 2005 and bought another one because it was perfect for the job, that one clocked up 475,000 Klm’s, with a few issues along the way but it was cheap to repair, in 2014 I bought another one which has now done 298,000 Klm’s, it needed the gearbox output shaft replacing at 250k but that was a 3 day rebuild at not much cost. Both bikes are still going fine and have been used as travel bikes on and off road over the years and do it well, definitely had my monies worth out of them.

Fantastic to hear regards big mileage, with excellent reliability.!! My 2008 DR650SE has only done around 27,500kmh.. I bought it 3+1/2 years ago with nearly 14,000km on it.. It has some oil weeping around the head or front of the motor or oil cooler piping, not sure?? We really enjoy riding it as its comfortable, compliant and easy enough to ride and handle, has plenty of grunt ( tho I could improve it with exhaust etc I know).. it takes my adventurous pillion and I easily, on dirt and sealed roads in our region... I find it a very good adventure / touring bike all-round... Tho first gear is perhaps a little tall for slow maneuvering at times... We have a tank bag- very worthwhile, and extra seat cushion strapped on for much more pillion comfort on our local country scenery cruises, enjoying Creation...

I have a vstrom 650, it's about 100lbs heavier than the dr650. the only dirt I come across are short, like the occasional shoulder that's wide enough, or the random dirt parking lot here and there. I don't have access to fire roads etc in my area... that being said, will I still be happier on the dr650? thanks!

Honestly I just taught myself. There isn't much to learn really if you can turn a wrench/screwdriver. Get yourself a service manual for the bike and it details any and all service it would ever need. That and use the internet. You can do it! 😁👍🏻

What are you at elevation now? If you're jetted kind of lean you should be fine. Just be conservative on fuel jetting when you leave and you should be ok.

I’m at sea level and I’m running stock jetting stock muffler all I’ve done is turn the fuel mixture screw out an extra turn so lm two turns out runs great.

Bought a freewind, which is a dr but its bit more road oriented, but does do great on and off road with bit suspension upgrade.. Really love the thing.. and yes weight.. and it feels like you can be on it all day long.. also own a klr, which is a tractor, just to heavy, not confidence inspiring, rough..

Honestly, I did exhaust and jetting, and GEARING. I did the 520 chain setup with a tooth up in front and a tooth down in rear and I can hold 80 all day at basically 5000 RPM. I do have a tachometer to verify that. That is all I've done, but if I had the money I'd do a pumper carb as well. Hope you enjoy your new ride!

Well, I weighed it with about half a tank of as so around 3.5 gallons, minus the bags and it was 378 best I could do with two bathroom scales. So add in another approximately 24lbs for the full tank and you are right about 400lbs. 👍🏻 I have removed all emissions equipment, rear pegs unless I need them and really anything else I could that I didn't need. I also have a diy TUBELESS setup so that helps a bit too since no tubes. Hope that helps!

I think I understand that you are asking if the DR is capable of thousands of miles of travel?? If so I absolutely say YES. The DR650 has circumnavigated the globe several times with various riders and has proven itself to QUITE reliable to 100,000 miles and beyond if maintained properly. They are a very trustworthy steed.

I have the opportunity to purchase a Tenere 700 on Friday and am debating between that or a lightly used DR650 and then setting it up to be my ultimate dual sport. I had a well sorted DR650 previously and I've regretted selling it ever since. I have a KTM 500 for the gnarly stuff so this would be a more street oriented setup for me. I love the way dual sports feel and handle and I'm worried the Tenere is going to feel more like an adventure bike than a big dirt bike. They are very hard to come by where I'm at so admittedly I'm largely being driven by FOMO and the T7 being the new shiny. I've watched a lot of your build videos, coolest DR650 build I've seen. Really impressive, especially your dash!

For more road, I'd have gone with the Tenere 700. It has similar ergos to my DR, and doesn't feel MUCH heavier. Some weight can be stripped off the 700 if you're going to ride dirt, but neither the 700 nor the 650 are going to feel like the 500EXC on technical terrain. Try a Li battery and Ti muff to start.

Honestly, the only time I get "knocked around" in the wind is when I'm right behind a big rig, and honestly, its not all that bad. I never really understood people complaining about this because even in my 3/4 ton van that weighs over 8,000 lbs i get thrown around a bit if behind a big rig. I'm really torn between the dr650 and dl650. I feel like I will be off roading and doing short trips most of the time, but my family wants to go on long tours every once in a while, I just hope it can keep up on the highway going like 85mph for hours on end. If you don't mind having a street setup for the long hauls, i would say it would be fine. 👍🏻 Mine will do 75-80 all day easy and I'm up one tooth on the front sprocket. If you wanted to have a street setup, I would do the tooth up in front for all times, then have a street setup that is like 3 teeth down in back if staying with the stock wheel sizes. That will make it easy to hold 85 comfortably. You could even do a couple teeth over in back for the dirt if you like, then you don't have to swap out the front sprocket, just simply change wheels. That's what I would do if it was me. 😁👍🏻

I love my DR for all the same reasons. Old guys like me don’t like picking up heavy bikes after dropping them. I wish my DR was a bit lighter - a half dozen drops in one day, and I start to lose interest; I’m whupped. I did wish it made more power (45-50 HP) and had longer legs, i.e., a 6th gear. Then, it would be the perfect unicorn ADV. Are you listening, Suzuki? Until then, maybe there’s that big bore kit in my future. 😉

I dumped the stock boat anchor, er, muffler for a Leo Vince unit, and I'm running a lithium battery now, but I've also added a chunky bash plate, a center stand, a 5.4 gal Acerbis tank, Moose racks, Nelson Rigg soft side bags, and my marvelous Northern Tool 20L top case. I'm probably a bit heavier than stock, but most of the new weight is up high. Wet and loaded with my usual junk, I figure I'm around 360-370. Not that heavy, really, but I'm gettin' a little long in the tooth. The fourth or fifth time I pick it up, it's *way* heavier than the first time! ;-)

Hi, thanks for this vídeo. I can't decide wich one should i go. DRZ or DR? I haver a CRF1000 AT. Great on gravel roads and on the road to reach dirt. But heavy on technical sections that are allways somewhere on the middle. I am looking for a lighter bike for my dirt rides and as a training mule to improve my skills. I will keep the AT. The DRZ makes sense as it is more dirt oriented, but the DR makes sense too, as I need to ride some road miles to reach the mountains. Having both how do you compare them as "training tool" for adventure riding. (Not long trips, not hard enduro neither motocross. I am 58 after all😀) Thanks for your thoughts.

It kind of depends on the roads you will travel to get to the dirt honestly. I have both bikes and the DRZ is definitely the better trail bike, but it suffers on the highway if they are 70mph type roads. People will tell you that its fine at 70, but I ASSURE you, it is not comfortable there unless it is geared very tall and that will hinder your low speed crawling ability. If you can be honest with yourself, and say "I don't need to go over 65 for extended periods on the highway" then the DRZ is the bike for you, if you need to go 70 for more than even a few miles on the highway, like maybe 10 maximum, then I would wholeheartedly vote the DR650. The little DRZ just buzzes way to high at anything over 65 to not be stressful. (Unless you just don't care about your machine) and I know many that just buzz them and they usually survive, but I've also seen them blow up on the highway so the choice is yours. 😁👍🏻🍻 HOPE THAT HELPS 😁

Either bike can be modded to both slab and trail. The main difference for me is hauling a passenger with luggage. A DR generally has more torque and slightly more space. A DR can be stripped to 320lb curb, which is similar to a stock DR-Z400S. It can also be modded for fully-adjustable suspension. A DR-Z400S can be equipped with a wide-ratio gearset. Check the costs and availability for what you eventually want.

Basically if you are gonna do really hard off road, (like 60MPH THROUGH 2' DEEP WHOOPS) then the Honda is the better choice. Like I said, the rear is outstanding. Pretty good traction and even with about 2,000 miles on it, it barely shows ANY wear! The front however started cupping pretty badly already. I think a softer compound and fatter profile on front would make a PERFECT combination since the front should wear a lot slower than a rear would. 👍🏻🍻

If you are a smallish rider, honestly I'd say the DR is better, the Rally is quite large in person. The DR seat height will be an advantage even though it's a bit heavier. I'd do a lightning program, lithium battery, light exhaust and strip off emissions stuff as well as anything not necessary. You won't regret it. 😁👍🏻

The DR has WAY more power/torque, and the aftermarket can make it even crazier. The DR can be shaved to 320lb curb, which is similar to the CRF250L. Suspension on either bike can be MUCH better with aftermarket mods. The Rally should be better in city traffic with ABS, and better for winter storage or drastic altitude changes with EFI. Either is likely to be WAY more fun than sitting on the couch.

Actually really well! The back tire hasn't lost but maybe 3 lbs since I did it! The front bead didn't seat really perfectly for a few weeks, it would bleed down over about 4 days, I ended up trying something kind of crazy, I put about 5lbs in the tire and rode it up and down the street and low and behold it SEATED! Put 30lbs in it and it was still up at 25 like a month later! Been good ever since. 👍🏻 I think if I was to do it again, I would probably use some rim sealer like tractors use, it is real slippery and dries slowly over a few days so its the perfect lube AND sealant! Plus it will help keep the bead seated on big rock hits too!

As much as I love my dr, I wish it had efi. With efi it’s is rare that you’ll have any issues with the system, and I mean rare. Sure with a carb you can theoretically fix it on the side of the road but when you have efi you won’t need to fix it on the side of the road because you’re not going to have any issues. I’ve had plenty of carbed and fi bikes and I’ve never had an issue with efi. I’ve had plenty problems with carbs. Sure it’s quick to fix but it’s a fix that efi never had that issue

I respect your opinion, but I work in the motorcycle industry and efi is ANYTHING but reliable. It's a CONSTANT problem in some way or another. My friend just bought a brand new KLR650 with EFI. It's been in the shop for 6 weeks, they cannot figure out why it sometimes won't run!

I don't have any experience on that bike, but from what I've read and seen online it seems like a good bike. Its a bit larger than the DR though, and if you are looking to do tighter stuff, I might not want and more bike than the DR. I did see a drag race between the two and they are almost identical, even though the XT makes more power, probably because its heavier. Yamaha has always made great bikes so I'm sure if you like it, it will last a long time for you. 🍻👍🏻

Yes the DR is a better all around bike, the DRZ is definitely more nimble off road. Mine is a super moto that I put dirt tires on but I'm getting ready to turn it into a corner burner for the street out here. Will be putting the wide ratio gear set in it and a big bore kit. Should be really fun!

My mate got a 2020 or 2022 i cant remember teneray 700 if thats how u spell it idk. An just in size comparison side by side to my 2020 model dr650 is crazy the dr looks like a peewee 50 next to a 450 the 700 is massive. It only just keeps up with the dr in the lower speeds untill like 150km then It pulls past bc its a 700 but it weighed so much more an had so much more stuff goin on with it an felt like riding a harly or somthin dr 650s are the ultimate dual sport full stop . Just emagin a 780 bore kit an a few other things they would be just as good as any 1100 on the road an would flog anything that wasn't a bored dr in the bush

Wow, talk about an awesome place to live! Personally since you have the Tubbs, I would definitely do the DR650. The DRZ is great but honestly only marginally better on the highway than the TW. The DR is radically superior to the DRZ on the highway, yet ALMOST as rideable in the technical stuff. You would have the best of both ends of the spectrum in my opinion!👍🏻🍻

@@jasonhansen5863 While I have no personal experience on the XR, I know it is considerably taller. I'm also about 6' and I wouldn't want anything taller than my DR honestly. That said, I know the XR is a good bit lighter than the DR and more powerful so you definitely might consider it, it's another one of the old school bikes and they are truly the unicorns everyone keeps asking for but yet forgotten simply because they are "dated". Makes no sense to me why most people always want the newest thing. Most times it's NOT the improvement they think it is. 👍🏻😁🍻

@@southerndualsport3827 I seems like the newer bikes are constantly changing. In the future it will be hard to get parts for them. I was riding across gold bar rim last week and there was a guy on a Ktm having fuel injection problems his bike would only idle. He was definitely wishing that he had a carburetor and said that the bike was for sale as soon as he got home.

Bingo! I tell people all the time that you don't want an injected bike if you ride solo, and there it is! Yes, we are conditioned by media and advertising to simply want the new thing simply because they need to SELL THEM!😂

How great would it be to have the 650 motor in the drz400. Being 6 1 i fell less cramped on the drz, althogh the 650s torque is much appreciated.

I was set on getting a T7, then I came across an 18' DR650 with only 2k miles for sale locally for many, many $1000's less than a T7. Now for the last few days I've been in back and forth in turmoil 🤣. The ADV I get is going to do BDR and mountain road riding. But its also going to see a lot of road miles getting to destinations and some commuting. I have no question about the DR's off-road capability or reliability, but I'm not sure I want to spend hours on the road riding a big ol' dirt bike. What is your experience and feeling about riding distance on the DR650? Thx

Honestly, I ride my DR on the freeway at 70+ daily. Now I will say if you want to do 85-90mph it's the wrong bike, BUT if you do the speed limit, the DR with the proper sprockets to gear it up, will do it ALL DAY LONG without breaking a sweat at all. This gearing will also EASILY do off road unless you want to do trials type single-track rock crawling type stuff, that will burn up the clutch with these gears. I run a tooth up in front and 2 teeth down in back FYI. Bottom line, there is no UNICORN but the DR650 is DAMN close when you set it up correctly. The problem with the T7 is it is EXTREMELY heavy compared to the DR. My bike with the fairing, bags and huge tank is STILL under 400lbs! The T7 full of fuel with some small bags is over 500! That weight off road will DESTROY your shoulders not to mention trying to pick that thing up! Also with my 6.6 gallon tank, I have nearly 350 miles of range!

One more thing, take a look at my other DR videos, they detail my build, I wouldn't do it ANY other way! The mods I did completely transformed the bike, it went from a somewhat goofy uncomfortable bike into a roomy, comfortable machine that gets looks everywhere I take it. Seriously, it's that good!

@@southerndualsport3827 I'll consider what you've said. But I feel like changing gear ratios further compromises performance on one end or the other... Anther thing is the group I'll be riding with will be on Africa Twins, KTM 790/890's and the like.. I don't want a bike I have to flog to death to keep up with them.

Fair enough on keeping up, and if you are just riding simple gravel roads, the DR is no advantage, buy if you will be doing real off road, the DR will run circles around the AT and your shoulders will greatly thank you. Like I said I can run 75 all day, 80+ in moderate chunks, but I wouldn't run 80 for hours that'll be kinda hard on it. As for changing gearing, that's part of motorcycles, it most certainly doesn't compromise it off road unless like I said you're going 5mph in very technical stop and go stuff. I can keep up with ANY machine off road, including full on dirtbikes with my gearing. 👍🏻

@@southerndualsport3827 I ride mostly single track and enduro on a Husky TE250(I also have a Victory XC for road touring). Here in southern New England the terrain is mostly technical and slow, I even geared the Husky down slightly for it. For ADV riding I imagine lots of twisty backroads to get to the dirt and class4(unmaintained) roads of the mountains around here and also BDR riding. Ending up many hours away, having to hustle back on the highway. I like the cost savings but I don't know if a big retro style dirt bike like the DR is right machine for this type of riding.
