just put it in few words: a good wagon offers as much practicality as a suv with a size and dynamics of a sedan. the only advantage of a suv could be a higher clearance, but most of them are shitty in offroad and driven only in cities, so yeah, a wagon is simply better. in my opinion the w210 wagon is the best of all time, if we considet every detail.

yes. my 2019 Subaru Outback has a high ground clearance, AWD, low center of gravity due to boxer engine, longer cargo area, great fuel economy, and has been super reliable. The Outback is the perfect family car for around town and a long road trip especially thru a winding road.

My wife and I drive a 2001 VW Passat wagon and a 2016 VW Golf Sportwagen, so that shows where we stand in this discussion. I plan to keep the Passat as long as we can trust it not to strand us, because it remains the best-sized, best-configured car we have ever seen anywhere, with superb rearward/sideward visibility -- a true "home run product." The Golf is a bit peppier and sportier-feeling, has better fuel economy (even on cheaper 87 octane vs. the Passat's 91), and is a real blast to drive, but it can't match the Passat's rear seat legroom, cargo space, and visibility. Both offer a far better driving experience than any SUV or crossover we have ever seen, with better practicality than any sedan out there.

I love my 2019 Subara Outback because it drives better than our second choice which was a 2019 RAV4. With a lower center of gravity from the boxer engine and AWD, it tracks better and feel glued to a winding road. You have to drive one to understand this. The longer cargo area behind the second row is more useful than the higher cargo area in a SUV. I will never buy a SUV again.

I’ve owned both, the suv is better for adults and families but the estate is a great project car. Made it a drag. But also could use it for drift. But the suv is better in general.

Facts are facts, high center of gravity of weight effects the driving dynamics in a negative way. Also creating safety issues with stability and breaking. Just think about it for a minute, 98 percent of the fuel used is to move the massive weight of the vehicle and the other 2 percent moves the driver. It’s a huge waste and I’m sure most people that buy theses things realize this.
