At least then, I have options but will continue to build Vertically rather than Horizontally

I was once unable to get an S in shiyu defence 4th floor with the under leveled characters I had at that time. But i didnt want to wait to upgrade the characters as i needed the polychromes before the node refreshes. And also I had faith that if I do a perfect run, i will be able to barely get an S as i only required 30 second faster clear. So i repeatedly tried more and more. I finally realized the attack patterns and the strategies i had to take. Then i remembered that i can eat noodles to boost up my damage. Finally i was able to shave of 1 min from my clear time. Have to say, it felt so good to see that "S" rank popup. So yeah, skill is what matters at last, and it makes the game more enjoyable. Btw, learning the new boss "Rampant Brute" attack patterns was so fun man. Massive W for ZZZ for actually making a hardcore boss.

So damn true. My current best team is Koleda/Lucy/Piper and from and an outside POV you might think that I should pull for Jane Doe as she's an S Rank equivalent to Piper. But to me the interaction quotes between Piper & Lucy and the satisfaction of having all my units synergies satisfied is far more important than the power up Jane could give to my team.

Gotten rid of FOMO eons ago from gacha games especially genshin. After selling my account for 800 USD (cuz my Hutao & Ganyu are disgustingly 1 hitting everything), I felt like a changed person that does not give a f#$%^ of new characters. I think these are all valid points. I personally mostly resonate with the first reason. I pulled Zhu Yuan but I still prefer melee carries like Ellen and Soldier 11. I know Zhu Yuan is very strong, but I personally prefer melee characters than ranged in any game.

Not to mention Melee characters, at least from what we've seen so far, tend to have Defensive Assists over Dodge Assists, meaning you inflict more Daze on the enemy, which in turn means you're more likely to stun, and thus more likely to get the DPS going due to Stun Multiplier

I will say that in gacha games, generally supporting agents are usually better future investments than a DPS. I think Caesar is the most promising new S-Rank, and I would also keep my eye out for any future agent that has a heal. Other than that just pull for who you think it cute or cool but always prioritise characters that offer something new to straight upgrades. That's why I skipped Qingyi.

Yes, the constant debate on power creeping a character only matters to players devoted to meta. Like most in the community, if you don't like a character's behavior, design or gameplay then simply don't pull for them. No one is forcing them to play such a character, but fellow players continue to worry about this fact as though the character they like will become irrelevant. I can understand the fear of higher difficulty end-game content in the near future but Im sure as the game continues the more characters and discs will be available for us to enhance our favorite characters' abilities and combat strategies. Let me know your thoughts

I find fun in variety, and start getting bored using the same team, so I have this pull towards new characters to shake things up. Doesn't really matter to me their viability, just how fun and interesting their loops are. It's rough considering Qingyi Jane and Seth all have these new mechanics that add depth to their rotations, making their kits interesting. I love S11, but by comparison she's painfully straightforward for an S rank. Ellen and Zhu Yuan have unique things going on that I appreciate, but already I'm starting to see how new characters will have even more complexity which is hard to resist. Still, I'm holding out for Miyabi and maybe Caesar along the way (polys permitting) because my roster is already very capable, and I have under leveled characters I can invest in for the sake of variety. Looking forward to more A ranks than S ranks tbh

Though, it resulted in me following through the video with great attention and deeply understanding the massage, so this even could be a format in my opinion. @@KetteiThe7th_ So, you see, I am from Hungary, my mothertongue is hungarian and around here, we speak with an interesting dialect, but also we speak our mothertongue a bit faster and usually speak english a bit slower (so I'm mostly used to slowly spoken english, which might be the cause, but I have another theory). I think it was because you were speaking in a lowered tone and your speech was... IDK how to put this. It was like you were speaking to a friend in a casual setting. Like you're having an everyday conversation and FOR ME, it felt like you bite the ending of the words off to make your speech more fluent. This is only my speculation of corse, I am not a linguistics expert, so I can't state anything for sure. I wouldn't say it's a problen though. As I said earlier, the will to understand what you were saying made me pay close attention and the video didn't become "meaningless and boring" due to my lack of understanding. One of my teachers used to speak with a hard accent when he deemed that we aren't listening to him. Your speech is similar, it catches my attention which in my opinion is the merit of a good performance. It even gave me a bit of a listening comprehension challange lol. I have mentioned it in another video. I am very happy with Ellen and Zhu Yuan to even think about power creep. They are addictingly fun. As long as they can help me in the story, side quest combat missions(like they ones they added this patch) and to farm mats and discs on higher level HIA/Outpost fights, I am good. I know people are all about Shiyu Defense, but they gotta relax. Won't be the only way to gather polychromes. I still love Diluc before his indirect Xianyun buff. I also use him with Mika cause I love fast claymore attacks, and his Cons makes him shine more. And even before Xianyun, I have seen people use him in Abyss and clear it. I get players desire to clear the hard content very comfortably to not lose against the timer. But as you declared, if older units can continue to help us clear the endgame, then stop stressing. It just won't be super fast, is all. Only spend money IF you have a stable job, pay your responsibilities(and some savings), and if you have spending money for yourself in the end and want to use it in a gacha. Otherwise, be patient, dearies. I have spent money in Genshin and ZZZ, I do not regret it, but only for characters I truly enjoy, AND being responsible with priorities. There are times where I have gotten new characters by being patient with f2p currency. It shall happen in due time.

Amazing advice buddy. I freaking love Ellen. The playstyle is extremely aggressive and she lends herself well to staying on-filed at most times. Debuffing with Lycaon and then buffing and Ellen with M6 Soukaku means I can go to town on the boss for 20+ seconds. In fact I'd say she's way better than ZY as ZY's on-field rotation is kinda terrible outside Stun. So I've got 2 teams with varied playstyles with Ellen/Lycaon/Soukaku and Zhu Yuan/Qingyi/Nicole and I love them both. Getting characters and more importantly building them takes so much time. I'd gotten lucky last year when I was new to HSR and I'd gotten DHIL, Fu Xuan and Jing Liu back to back and I had a torrid time clearing content because the characters weren't built. Also I don't really like JL's gameplay much so I never use her outside MoC/Apoc. Loving your characters is so important since you stick to them much longer. Love the point about vertical investment as well. My DHIL is E2 and he's awesome ❤

Nice vid, Kettei. Stuff like this comes as common sense to me but I know some people out there are more easily pushed into FOMO and could benefit heavily from this. I like to pull for characters I both enjoy as a character/appearance wise and strong useful units. Pulling for a character you like is great and all but if they actually suck in harder content, the content I enjoy the most, then I’m not gonna bother but it’s also true that there’s no point in pulling for a strong unit that has an annoying or unsatisfying play style.

i quit zenless when i got Lycaon twice. (one on the beginner banner and the other on Ellen's) then after a few banners (i played some First Descendant and then Once Human and quit all gacha when they came out) i decided to come back and give the game a try again because i really loved the aesthetics and gameplay, with the mindset told by some of my friends -- play it with what your account have, and i did. My Lycaon (m1), maxed out Anton (m20, i got a ton of him its ridiculous)somehow carried me until i got Jane Doe and Rina so yeah, theyre still fun to use.

A very well informed and clear statement here. This here is exactly why I don’t follow the meta and go for my favorite characters when I started playing Genshin (I’m also having a blast in ZZZ as well for the bakery cop). Hell ya, the main thing I'm concerned about is having fun. So far it's been fun but I've encountered my 1st major roadblock... shiyu defense.. I don't have 2 teams rn and I honestly don't know what to do about it either so I jus ignore that content for now. I haven't wished for any characters except for Ellen and I absolutely love her!! I skipped Zhu yuan because I jus wasn't sure if I would like her long-term.. Hey there 👋 let me know the characters you have and are interested in and maybe I can help you build up a second team for Shiyu defense. About the pulls, this is normal for gacha games, the beginning of the game usually gives you a bunch of pulls and then it dramatically slows down to encourage you to spend money on newer characters. You seem to be very disciplined so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem for you but, if you happen to have spare money you’re willing to put into the game, I’d highly recommend the monthly membership thing in the store. It’s essentially an extra 20 pulls every month, which can add up to over 40 pulls if you skip two banners, like you will have just done if you maintain your current stance on pulling Qingyi.

@Alreaxdy Besides Ellen the only other characters I like is anby and Nicole. I have all of the current a rank agents and I have ellen, c1 Rina and also koleda for S ranks so far. My main team is Ellen, Anby and Rina. So like I'm totally open to suggestions for a 2nd team to try out. I'm currently lv39 so my agents are stuck at lv40 cap for now and uh ya I'm all ears.

@@uni3573 oh nice, I also have C1 Rina, though she’s collecting dust rn. I’ve 2 suggestions, the first is a team I use and have found great success with, the other is something I assume would work pretty well but have not tried. My team is Koleda, Lucy and Piper. The team works really well as a quick swap team, making good use of Lucy’s buff and Koleda’s strong defense assist. If you’ve not yet dabbled with anomaly units much, you can experience a new play style with Piper, and she’s easier to build because she doesn’t require crit. As a bonus, if you were interested in either Caesar king or Burnice the team is easily adjusted to incorporate either unit. My other suggestion that I’ve not tried would be a beloblog industries team, featuring Koleda, Ben and Anton. Koleda and Ben obviously have their synergised attacks for massive daze and damage and Ben can give buffs for the team, alongside a shield and decent damage, I’ve heard. Anton is just anton, a 4 star attack unit that will be doing a lot of damage. This team gets bonus points for the immersion.

Learnt my lesson, Qingyi came after 130 pulls but surprised by how much better I liked her than my already built Anby. FOMO aint getting to me this time for Jane, need to recollect my resources.

This is how I feel exactly, I got into this game because I love Jane, I saved up currency to get her and her weapon. In the future I would love to have her at M6 during all the reruns, the only problem is right now I won't have a team for her so hopefully I can make one with my other fav characters in the future. Yea I know Seth is Bis, but I don't like using him, I got monster hunter world ptsd hitting me all over again (and I don't like the character) Next patch will be really bad for me since I like Ceaser and Burnice, so I might end up picking the one who works best with Jane, would be nice if some luck can kick in for once and let me have both because I'm not interested in any of the other characters shown for 1.3 and 1.4. Sucks that you don’t enjoy Seth, due to the value he has for Jane, but in that case I’d recommend you pull for Caesar king, if you have grace, and run the two with Jane. Alternatively, if you don’t have Grace, I’d recommend you pull for burnice and run the two with Lucy as a support. Obviously if you manage to get both CK and burnice they’ll run reaaallyy well with Jane but I personally wouldn’t risk pulling for both unless you have Grace cuz I think CK is gonna be on the first half. I believe in skill heavy games, playstlyle is the most important, just like fighting games. Yūki Terumi is a weak BlazBlue character, but he's super fun. I often play him because he has the most amount of super moves in the game, and I love his design. Thats what matters to me at least

I realize I tend to make more than one account in games like this to satisfy my pseudo-gambling addiction on one account while maintaining patience on the other. It has worked so far and at times it even allows me to approach the game differently with each account. That said, trying to pull for Zhu Yuan (and failed) while being p*ss poor on Polies (because I tried forcing for Ellen's W-Engine) pretty much broke that account of mine LMAO. You can totally just build A rank characters and make them work even for Shiyu defence. Just level them up to at least 55 because how the game works is that if an enemy is at a higher level than you, there’s diminishing efficiency. A 5 level difference is the least noticeable when it comes to this.

people seem to forget that hi3rd is also a hoyo game, and if the powercreep will ever be as bad then the argument of "playing the characters you like" will become invalid and no amount of new synergies will bring those characters back in to meta since the content scales for the newer characters and the old ones just dont have the numbers...

I've never been swayed by meta and powercreep, mainly by thinking like this: assuming middle of the way cost of 80 pulls (12800 chromes) for a character, winning 50/50, how long does it actually take you to regain that cost if you just pulled for meta? Assuming that with just that one character, you suddenly shoot from no endgame to all endgame full clear, it would still take months to make back that much thanks to the character, meaning pulling the next meta character will always cost more than what you can make back, for a loooong time. Unless you have other reasons like design or personality or gameplay, it's never worth it to pull a character. I also find that limiting your spending to hard set goals (only monthly pass, only bp) makes it so easy to skip. I have no qualms skipping the entire 1.2 despite the hot women, cuz I know I won't be able to get even hotter women (yanagi, miyabi) down the line if I don't.

Power creep is both easily defined but also maybe irrelevant at the same time. As you so succinctly put in the video, if your old characters can full clear, then why force yourself to do something 'more optimal?' Isn't it already fully optimized at clearing? Is clearing by one second or 30 seconds important enough to blow month(s) worth of resources? I'd argue no. Also, I will have all the Sons of Calydon. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Something like this just happened to me, I really wanted Jane Doe , but everyone just keep saying that Qingyi is the best character in the game and I felt pressured to pull for her, I ended up getting her even though I don't liker her design, but now I don't have enough pulls for Jane, and now I feel bad because I have the best stunner in the game but probably I won't be able to get the character that I like :/

Fomo ruined my HSR experience and I quit after failing the Jingliu 50/50. Now playing ZZZ I'm looking at it like a marathon rather than a sprint for the new shiny thing. Skipping Qingyi has been a wonder for my progression, my enjoyment, and my own mental health. I've got Ellen, I've got Zhu Yuan, and I've got Koleda. Anything from here until Burnice would be more than I need and I'm not going to kill my own fun like I did with HSR. I'll pick up robocop and the rat on a rerun possibly, unless I just so happen to get Jane while fishing for my single copy of Seth

I don't really agree with the mindset of being negative towards spending money. The games and content around them are hugely expensive to make, and would usually be full price, with only 10% of the content and budget. It's fine to be free to play, but it's also completely fine to spend money and support the developers. Genshin for example is now the game with the highest development cost of all time. Yes, they make a lot of money as well, but if you have enough money, then try supporting them.

You can have the most broken character in the game but if their gameplay loop is boring you’ll get bored really fast. Look at neuevellete for example. You literally have to spin that dude like a fidget spinner for his gameplay to be fun.

Tbh, i just want 3 teams i enjoy playing. Ellen mono ice is fun as hell. Every other team iv tried isnt that fun. Disorder setups don't feel too fun, other dps dont feel as fun. Hoyo knows how to make units so im just biding my time at this point

Literally no power creep will happen because even in Genshin, four years in, the starting units are still fine to use. You will struggle more sure, but they are absolutely fine to use. I know, because I regularly use them in clears. Kaeya in particular is my favorite. I used Diluc before Xianyun when he was "mid/fallen off" and cleared JUST AS FAST as the "meta units". HYV isn't stupid. They know if they introduce powercreep people drop the game. They surgically increase power levels but not too much and in a horizontal way that compliments older units. THERE IS NO POWERCREEP IN ZZZ AND NEVER WILL BE. Even in Genshin with Chiori, she didn't powercreep Albedo. You can still use him just fine, and in fact, ALONGSIDE Chiori, just like Ayato isn't erased because of Neuv. I'm so tired of CCs that will make DUMB, UNHELPFUL VIDEOS LIKE: "ELLEN POWERCREPT BY MIYABI!??!?!?!?!" Stupid. You all should be ashamed if you do this. You're just making people feel like they have to swipe every time you feed into this "powercreep" nonsense. It doesn't exist. It never has. It never will. Let it go. I clear fine with Billy who is "F tier" and Corin who is "D tier".

I remember when people said the same thing about Selee, loucha, jing yuan, bronya and jing liu every time every single one of those characters came out in HSR. Then they all got power crept by units like acheron, FF, sparkle and in loucha's case any 5 star healer that has been released since after him has been better. Its really almost naive take to think power creep wont happen. If every character is "good enough", that you dont need to pull then the game fails because people wont spend real money to buy pulls to gacha. They are naturally incentivized to create power creeped units.

Every character you just named can still clear every single end game mode in Honkai Star Rail you can easily find clears of them all on KZbin at E0, and even then if you get eidolons which is another point I said about “vertically investing” those characters you say got powercrept can still smash the content. So I really don’t understand what you mean, also you point about them being incentivized is invalid cause it took genshin 4 years to truly powercreep characters and even then the old units are still clearing the game so yea your literally making no sense to me

I can still clear content fine with my loucha as one of my 2 premium sustains but that didnt mean he hasnt gotten powercrept. I can also take my gear frommy units like jinglu or selee and put it on my acheron and get far higher performance on the latter than the former 2. That's power creep and in a game thats all about investing in units with limited and hard to acquire resources ofc people will care about power creep and if their hard to get characters have/are/at the risk of falling off.

Got Qingyi on accident. I wanted to max out Corin but was super unlucky, maxed out Billy instead. When I was at 40 to garanteed s rank I wanted to pull 3 more for the garanteed A and got the Frieren Robot. Im still only 4/6 on Corin :c Anyway I still think Anby is better since she requires so much less uptime
