Thank you for these helpful ideas. I bought your phonics program for my 1st graders and I love how it's structured and how well my students are doing with it!

Have you ever avoided partner activities because you’re focused on all the things that could go wrong? Type YES in the comments if you’ve had a hard time getting students to work with partners.

Yes, absolutely! (Hard to plan partner work when I have small groups, with unpredictable attendance.) Please help me make this work!

Hey Heather! Can you use popsicle sticks with students' names written on them? You could also have two different colors for the popsicle sticks (i.e. write students who may be at a higher level on the purple sticks, and students who may be at a lower level on yellow sticks) First remove the sticks of the students who are absent. Then, choose two at a time - either two purple sticks for partners who are more matched ability, or one of each to mix it up - to make random partners.
