One of the best things about living in the United States is its proximity to Mexico. Mexico’s diversity in climate, topography, and geography is something to behold. The people are wonderfully hospitable, and I can feel right at home the minute I get off the plane. As you’ve mentioned many times in your fantastic videos, the prices can be reasonable and even low in some cases (unlike in the US). The food is gorgeous everywhere you go both in restaurants and also shopping at the local markets. The produce is so beautiful, it’s almost unrecognizable after having shopped for years in the US. It’s so easy to get around, you really don’t need a car anywhere. I’m reluctant to mention all these things, because the secret is going to get out. I think the “wall” was meant to keep the people on the North side in. Happy trails, guys.

Same reasons why we moved our family abroad. My little one was 5 when we moved so, he doesn`t understands or remembers how hard it was to dine out and have water and no dessert with your meal because of cost. He`s now 14 and we`re moving to explore Mexico this time. We, as a family out growing Colombia ( been there done that). We are also planning many trips now that our kids are older and they will enjoy it much more.

I first read this as a wee lad and it stuck with me: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." ~ Mark Twain Your new project is 20 years too late for me but I wish you MUCHO EXITO!

My dad was an artist and film maker so as a child we lived abroad a few times: France, Italy, and Spain. He was a "starving" artist so living on a limited income was possible. Some of the best food is peasant food in Europe; pasta, fresh homegrown veggies, etc. I agree that everyone should experience other cultures...there's so much to gain. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

My plan is that by next year around this time I will be living in Mexico, not sure yet where in Mexico but it's going to be in Mexico. I too live in Los. We've been wanting to live abroad for years and when we finally did it it was totally by accident, but it's been such a great experience. Looks like your sitting in the Alameda a little further along is the hotel Cortez the oldest continuously running hotel in the Americas. I used to sit in the park early morning to read the paper. But then I found out if you cross the street to the Franz Mayer Museum you can skip the museum and pay 5 pesos to go into the courtyard of the old monastery and sit and listen to classical music and enjoy a coffee and pastries. And who would guess you are in the middle of the city. Right nearby some eating spots you can't miss, The famous Casa de los Azulejos which is a Sanborn's, sit in the inside courtyard and soak up history of a 400 year old house. On the street behind and heading toward the zocalo stop in at the Bar Opera and see the old wood bar but also a bullet hole the ceiling where Pancho Villa shot his gun. Then the street behind that is the cafe Tacuba. Beautiful tiles walls and a good food. I'll watch for the next and send more tips. Love Mexico City but the altitude gets me lately.

Another great video and as usual very informative. I last commented on my trip to Merida and although I loved the city I did not get the vibes I wanted. So, now I will be visiting Oaxaca 9/13-9/19 to see if I will consider moving there, or perhaps try San Miquel de Allende. I'm hoping that I resolve this situation by next June and come to a decision. Have enjoyed your videos and especially your perspective living in Mexico as a gay couple. My husband and I (both retired) have been going to Mexico together since 1977, San Miguel de Allende mostly (going there again in January) and are going to Guadalajara in May '22 to check out moving eventually. I was born in Morelia and my Spanish is pretty native, plus I'm in the process of retrieving my Mexican citizenship. I just can't wait to take this next big step. Your Guadalajara video(s) were great. Last time we were there was in 1992. Gorgeous city. Are you going to stay in Merida? You seemed really taken by Guadalajara. Your flight to Mexico City was from Merida? Anyway, enjoy all your videos a great deal. Thanks. Looking forward to more.

Can you imagine if you had gotten rid of your stuff, relinquished your apartment in L.A. and then you were not allowed to enter Mexico-that has been my nightmare regarding europe...wrenching! Guys, you seem to forget a very important fact. You earn US salaries and spend it in Mexico. So you have a distorted view of how "cheap" things cost in Mexico and you're gentrifying the areas where you live hence driving up the prices for the average middle class Mexican. Just keep that in mind.
