I backed the standee version on the first day pro-actively because I was sure you would upload a big 5 reasons to not buy as you usually do with bigger crowdfunds. First thing I noticed is how simple and "boring" the gameplay loop is. The art is crazy good, but I don't pay near 100 euros after tax and shipping just for art. Thanks for the upload, cancelling pledge right now 😅

Honestly the IP itself is a big pull for me. I think the system look interesting and like something I'd enjoy playing, but in this case it's much more about how much I love the books and games, even my dog is named after Ciri from the series, so...

Two reasons I decided not to back a) Double layered boards and book like boxes being locked in the deluxe edition. I do not like minis and would never pay extra for them, but the double layered boards and nice boxes should be included (even in retail would say) b) I am really not sold on the idea of the Witcher being competitive game, would much rather see story driven challenging coop or even solo maybe. Geralt racing with Ciri who will be more fanous sounds super weird

Yeah, I could follow them with the competition between the diffrent schools in Old World, but I definitly don't see all these characters competing and even trying to get to a diffrent outcome, especially without the stretch goal characters.

Great video! I love your work. I think that the story is not nearly as important as some think it is, but the card drafting and tableau building is all the more important. I think you should look at the game this way: You compete together to become victorious in points, like a lot of other games. You do so by drafting cards and build your tableau and make strategic choices (about who goes first next turn, will you go left or right, will you hinder opponents or play towards what you need, will you get the objectives laid out, will you go for victory points right now, or build experience points, which will get you better abilities and more victory points later on, etc). The story is just there for background and guiding the choices you can make. At first I felt the story was the most important and was unsure if the 8 different endings would remain fun enough, after you've seen them all once (or even a couple). Now I'm thinking the gameplay is fun enough to keep playing and the different stories and endings just help along the whole experience, but you have to be into the IP, otherwise it's not interesting enough. You are touching upon some valid points. I have backed the deluxe version right now, but seeing more and more of the stretch goals, I feel they are really making this game too bloated. So many miniatures for a game that, like you said, doesn't even need miniatures. This makes me really think twice about if I should not just get the standard edition, but then I get no tuck boxes or double layered player boards? Man, I hope they do add those as add-ons or just upgrade the standard edition. I have Old World, almost everything there is to get and I love it, but it's SO much content, it's simply too much. That game has big setup time and gameplay time (even solo), so it doesn't get to the table all that often. Then all this extra content introduces new rules, so I have to keep reading the rule book again and again. The same will happen to Paths of Destiny, and it's something I don't like. If you add the Wild Hunt as an add-on, you're already looking at 3 boxes filled with stuff. The standees look great too btw, so that's another reason to just go standard. They now added Renfri and Stregobor and them together as 3 seperate miniatures, but that's just to replace the tokens in the standard version and all they do is stand there and do absolutely nothing. Again, making the game bloated. I also had to view at least a couple of playthrough video's to just grasp what this game was all about and that says to me the gameplay might indeed be less important than the IP and that's when you need to worry. I've been following the development of this game for some months now, have back the Deluxe and even the Wild-Hunt add-on, but am still on the fence if I will back out again on the last day or not. I don't see my gaming group playing this regularly, maybe once or twice and that's it, so it all comes down to will it be fun enough solo or with a friend now and then. Hope this helps some of you that are still have doubts about this game too.

You win on this one Chris, and my wallet thanks you! #5 needs to be seen by many backers. Quite a few ppl keep asking for a crossover pack, or saying this is a better, streamlined version of Old World. Player agency and narrative are the reasons I'm dropping. I thought it was cool that one tale could have multiple endings, but I didn't fully understand the mechanism behind that. Also, I'm a fan of the Netflix series so i definitely got caught up in the idea of an interactive narrative game. That one might be less so the fault of the campaign and more what I read into it, but this is definitely not the game i thought it was.

I hadn't done a thorough look into this one, but I have been skimming through the updates and getting a general sense of it, and honestly all your points were exactly how I've been feeling about it. I think it looks pretty, but it doesn't seem to have much substance to it from what I can see. Given how much it's raised and so quickly I thought maybe I'd been missing something and it might deserve looking into a bit more, but I don't think I'll bother now. These are all some of the most important reasons that led me to lose interest and unfollow (to stop the fomo). Revisiting them makes me even more confident I made the right choice. I don't think it will be as good or as replayable as I want it to be. But it is pretty.

This game may be good or not, we will see, I backed it, with all the deluxe and xtra stuff and I'm hoping to get some fun from the game, nothing more. As Polish, who read the books in mid 90's for the first time I have a different feelings for the Witcher story I think, it's not based on the PS game... I just hope that "Path of..." will get us that good story, as it's kind of missing in the Old World a little.

I saw Kingdomino behind you in this video and kept thinking “I hope he mentions Kingdomino and how affordable it is in comparison”. You always deliver. I got my copy for 10 USD in a ding and dent bin. The corner is slightly dented but all the components are there and in perfect shape. Such a deal! Plus they are in Dized for anyone that doesn’t feel comfortable teaching the game themselves. Makes for a very easy teach to anyone new to the game. So moral of the story: back Kingdomino from your friendly local game store if they have a campaign going for it which they probably do if they are in business.

Well done vid with good advice. I backed Old World early, and have been really happy with what I got. PoD hasn't enticed me like the first one did. This game has miniatures, but it isn't a miniatures game. I don't see enough variety/agency in what you can do, and I'm not sold on the replay-ability that they say it has. Definitely not backing this one.

Phew! Two big Witcher campaigns survived without backing now. My nervous wallet and diminishing shelf space happily rejoice! I skipped Old World because that setting within the Witcher universe didn't really intrigue me so much. Now this one... I love the look of it. The art is all amazing. It's like my favorite video game jumped out into a board game. But the style of game here is not really what I am looking for. Maybe one day they will create a third game that combines everything I like about the first two and then I will be sold! :D

I missed their first Witcher game, then later heard you lamenting that it was actually a good deal soooo I'm very curious with this one. It does seem like lighter gameplay and a less "complete" experience but - does it seem easier to get to the table? Some of my gaming group doesn't love big combat-based miniature games but they enjoy strategic story-based games. I'm torn. I can't tell if this will be a game I regret backing, like Old World.

I don't see this necessarily being all that "story based" although I could be wrong. I think if the card drafting feels exciting to you and if you like little constant tweaks and shifts to the ruleset, that would be the main reason to pull the trigger

I am not backing this one for the same reason I didn't back Old World: I like The Witcher IP but thought that it was just a cash-in on FOMO and the IP and wasn't going to be a great game. Seeing reviews and gameplay since then, I know I was wrong.... but this one still gives me those same vibes; while I may be wrong again, I don't want to spend ~100 bucks just to find out in a year or two.

Thank you for the video. For me personally, there are a few other things to consider when backing Kickstarter games: 1. Will the game be easy to sell once you eventually want to sell it ? In the case of this game I think the answer is yes, especially if you get the miniature expansions. The limited content will make this game very easy to sell. 2 Does the game design seem overly convoluted and fidgety ? Based on the playthroughs I watched, it seems like this game is at least cleverly designed, using fewer text, looks quick to setup and looks like the downtime is minimum (unlike old world where the downtime seems like one of the most common criticisms). 3. How does the replay value ? I am not getting any decisive answers to this one by watching the videos. I guess with all the expansions the game might last enough play sessions to justify buying, going trough and then reselling. The different scenarios and characters do raise it's potential. Overall, this game matches my particular behavior when buying board games: buy, exhaust, resell. It works particullary well for me because here in Denmark, it's extremely easy to sell Gamefund and kistarted large popular IP games, so I don't mind personally giving it a shot.

I backed it because it's my favourite IP of all time but i do agree with most of your points. I'm not convinced by the gameplay but at the same time they're not trying to copy past anything, they're trying to do their own thing like they did with Old World. With all the stretch goals, it has good value. If i were to buy Old world from retail today, it would be 20-25% more expensive than what i paid, shipping included.

Yeah Old World did end up turning out to be a really really great deal. I'm still happy I didn't get it because I think it wouldn't have hit a ton for me, but for those that got it and are enjoying it, that's a huge pat on the back for sure. I think the additions of the extra cards to improve upon feedback really made a different when they sell them separately later.

I'm currently backing but that's because they did an early bird reward. That's the con to early bird rewards, they'll get alot of people backing out the last few days. I got the witcher old world deluxe edition and I'm not happy the KS stuff doesn't fit in the box with the sleeves they sold with the campaign. My witcher old world sits in 3 boxes and a bag of metal coins on top :( This witcher game looks fun but i don't think i need to own it. And i have lots of minis to paint, no need to get more. As someone who's read the books it's tempting but I'm 95% sure i will cancel my pledge towards the end. I've only backed 2 things this year, final girl S3 and scarface 1920 bloody business (fomo got me;)!

Hi. Thank you for this insightfull video. I feel like this game is like an epmty well decorated shell. it looks gorgeous on sight, but there is no fun gameplay at all. They did the bare minimum for the gameplay mechanics and gave it a nice dress up that don´t add anything to the game. With this project, I feel like they are just milking the brand of The Witcher, they just exploiting the hipe that brought their previous game now delivered to the backers. In my opinion this game is made solely for the profit with no regars for the players and the fun of the game. Also those stories they introduce in this new project aren´t even new, no invention of their own, they are just coppied from the first and seventh books of short stories about the witcher. So you can (re)read those books for cheaper and have more fun and excitement than this new game will bring. At least in my perspective.

Look, I get that this game is not for everyone and is ip driven to some extent. But if you have read the books, especially the short stories, not just okayed the Witcher 3 on ps4 or later, then this game has flavor like you can’t even imagine. I like old world and when this new campaign started I immediately jumped in, because of my beloved Witcher series and the old world. But when I later looked closely at the game I really could not find anything interesting there, it feels really shallow, boring and uninteresting... Get cards, get tokes, do it 3 times and all this again 3 times, the end... idk, I feel like an idiot when I see all those praising comments on gamefound, maybe I just don't understand it. Plus these stories will not be deep and majority Witcher fans know them from books I guess, so nothing new there either. And making expansions AGAIN about wild hunt and big monsters, that just feels kinda lazy, so many interesting things in Witcher world, but it has to be always wild hunt... This video was the last kick for me to cancel my pledge, thank you

I canceled my pledge today and after this find this video. I'm fully agree with 5 reasons here. Art is good, minis are ok, but gameplay and this story telling look like week spot of this game. And when base thing in one game suck - game suck too :/ I don't sorry i miss The Witcher: OL, i have it cheaper and translated on my native language. I hope next year we will see and other expansions translated + people behind tWOL translate make hit they will try to negotiate and for tWPoD translate.

I reckon their campaign is just doing so well due to the IP. However at its core there is no actual engaging gameplay. So I'm backing this game not for the IP, nor the minis, but for the mechanics. The drafting and tableau building sounds interesting enough on their own for me to back. When considering the number of tales, the number of endings per tale, 8, mixed with the asymmetric characters, and the unlockable content, the replayability of this is huge. One thing you did not mention and the reason I'm backing at the deluxe level, it's because of the double layered board include only in the deluxe box. It's such a quality of life that I cannot pass on it. Worst case scenario, I could always try to sell the minis which this game definitely don't need. So far, I'm not getting the first add-on expansion because I want to keep this game light and there is enough takes already between the core game and the SG that I don't feel like it need more.

This is rather cheap game, comparing to Old World. 50$. We can argue that Old World was not that expensive either for the base, less than 80$, but it had gameplay expansions for additional 170$. Unfortunately GoOnBoard recently added a 40$ expansion to the Path of Destiny too and there were remarks that more paid expansions might be coming. Gameplay-wise I'm not sure yet if I'd like it that much, but it doesn't have crazy mechanics the Old World has, so at least nothing irritates me here yet. But what intrgues me is how we go through the story. Not simply by making a choice, or rolling a die, but through a competitive gameplay.

Literally the first half of every one of these is positive. Unfortunately there's not much to be positive about for this one. @@RoomandBoardReviews if you intended to give a balance view of a boardgame campaign then you wouldn't pick a thumbnail or a title like you did. You knew exactly what you were doing, negativity of a hyped game will give more views. All I did was calling you out for it and nothing else.
