In terms of must-play ROM hacks, I’d recommend Hyper Metroid and Mega Man X3 Zero Project

Some must-play romhacks: Megaman X3 Zero Project = brings X3 up to the quality level of X, X2, and X3 Any of ShadowOne's Zelda Redux projects - these leave the games mostly the same, but give huge quality of life improvements BS F-Zero Deluxe - Adds in all of the Satellaview content to the original F-Zero, and puts in quality of life features

I LOVE the ALttP + SMetroid Randomizer. Very fun if you're a master of both games. The Super Metroid randomized portion was much more challenging for me. It really tests your knowledge of both games.

When it comes to combo randomizers, I'd recommend the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask Combo Randomizer. It has its own site with tons of settings for you to play around with. Sticking with Zelda, there is a new OoT romhack that came out about a month or two ago and it is SO good. Ultimate Trial is the name, and it is very much like a roguelike. TLoZ: Ancient Dungeon for the NES is an actual roguelike. You go through 255 randomly generated rooms and build up your hearts and inventory. Just be sure to not die, because your run is done if you do. Lastly for this post is a Super Mario RPG romhack. Super Luigi RPG: Star Powered swaps out Mario and Peach for Luigi and Daisy. What if Smithy had chosen to attack the Mushroom Kingdom while Mario was on Isle Delfino?

2 of my favorite randomizers are probably Phantasy Star IV: Profound Distortion and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, which are already 2 of my favorite games of all time but they have super fun randomizers

After Zelda/Metroid randomizer I played the 3 best Super Metroids Hacks: Hyper, Ascent and Vitality. I think I´ll now try FFVI Ted Woolsey Uncensored Edition, this is a collection of improvement on the original game, ideal for me since it would be my first FFVI playthrough.

If not previously mentioned: Final Fantasy VI: T-Edition. Probably the ultimate hack of FFVI ever created. A bit more difficult than OG, far more balanced overall, and has insane superbosses (not spoiling them) to really challenge.

TMNT return to New York, and The real Ghostbusters NES romhacks are great ones. there is also a Pitfall one that makes the game actually playable

Did you know there is a Zelda 1, Metroid 1, Link to the Past, and Super Metroid all 4 quad randomizer! It is way fun, it is in beta and they are slowly fixing small issues but i did beat a full playthrough

Rom hacks are the lowest thing to experience. Only one sort of hack is good, well made translations that allow us to play otherwise Japanese only games. The rest is just a load of dumb hacks. Bad graphic choices. Bad level redesign. Bad music choices. And those are like 99.99 % of all hacks. Just some bored people doing boring things to games.
