I still think that people assuming a Survivor in the Blind Spot is not a threat is one of the biggest rules mistakes made. Mainly due to a lot of Playthroughs/tutorials on YT getting this wrong. There is a HUGE difference to being out of Line of Sight by being in the Blindspot compared to not being a threat when you are knocked down.

I find the survival oportunity before a reaction a very high risk high reward situation. It can save a survivor by killing the monster before the reaction or positioning them in a different way that doesnt affect the first attacker anymore, on the other site it may proc for the reaction and possible new reactions to target more survivors.

I disagree with the dodging of reaction hits. I can't find anywhere in the official rules that states that you can't dodge at that point as they are not considered traps and, unless specifically stated on the card, they do not cause your character to be "doomed" which does prevent you from using survival skills until the card is resolved. From the 1.6 manual: Dodge: A survival action. When a survivor is hit, after rolling hit location dice but before damage, they may spend 1 survival to dodge, cancelling one hit. The dodged hit becomes a failed attack roll and does not cause damage. Any additional un-dodged hits resolve normally. Dodge is the only survival action that knocked down survivors can perform. Each survivor may only Dodge once per round. Reaction: A hit location rule. The 3 types of reactions are Wound, Failure, and Reflex; each specifies the conditions for a reaction to occur. Reactions occur after rolling to wound the hit location they are found on and before resolving the next hit location. TLDR: Saying you "can't dodge monster reactions" sounds like a house rule and not an official one as this is not supported by the manual or the card descriptions. (Unless it states that a survivor is "Doomed")
@friendly_ed40732 жыл бұрын
Bit late a response to this. But I believe it is stated under "Survival Actions" that you cannot spend survival whilst attacking. When resolving a hit location you are attacking. Therefore you cannot spend survival during the attack to avoid the reaction. Any other survivor can spend their survival on actions. Just not the attacker. Hope this helped.

1:34 - This is not entirely accurate. The Rule of Death is both: "First and foremost, this game is designed to provide time well spent with friends. Use this as a guiding principle for solving any problems that arise. In addition, here are some technical guidelines for resolving conflict. When conflict arises over contradictions in rules, apply specific rules found on cards (AI, gear etc) and story events, before any rules found in the rulebook core rules sections. If conflicts arise that slow or halt a play session completely, use the Rule of Death: always rule against the survivors. Kingdom Death is a dangerous place, and the survivors' future is bleak. Make sure that any ambiguities resolve against the survivors' favor." 1) If there is conflicting information between rules on cards or instructions, always rule against the survivors. 2) If there is conflicting interpretation between players during play, always rule against the survivors. If i'm hearing you right, you're saying it's not #1, it's only #2. The Rule of Death applies to both -- anything that slows down play.

Rules as written I think says you stand at the end of the monsters turn, not end of the monsters next turn. HUGE difference in wording. RAW if the monster knocks you down, you'll get back up after its done that turn. I'm too lazy to look it up. 11:09 In those cases the retaliatory attack or trap will state something like "you are Doomed". If not you can use Survival for the applicable ability.
@jbonkerz2 жыл бұрын
For the knockdown rule. From the 1.6 manual: Knocked Down (Survivor): When a survivor is knocked down, turn the miniature on its side. Knocked down survivors always stand at the end of the NEXT monster turn. Think of it like this: If it is Tuesday morning and someone tells you that they will meet up with you at 8pm NEXT Tuesday, you don't expect them to meet up with you at 8pm today, you expect them to meet up at 8pm next week on Tuesday. If however it is Monday and a person says they will meet with you at 8pm next Tuesday, then yes it means tomorrow (which is the next Tuesday to occur). So in KDM, if you are knocked down on your turn, then you just have to wait until the end of the next monster turn to get up. Which in this case is coming up very quickly and you wont miss your next turn. If your survivor is knocked down on the monster's turn you wont be getting up until the end of the next monster turn, and you will be missing your turn that is coming up. I hope this helps a bit. Definitely welcome to your thoughts on it! As for the not being able to dodge reaction hits, the rule book does not support the statement made in the video, other than the term "Doomed" which is specific to certain cards and not all reactions. So unless doomed, all reactions should be able to be dodged (well one dodge per round anyhow).

I just discovered last weekend, after YEARS of playing it, that when a nemesis showdown in the timeline does not trigger a "new year", I assumed that was the case for special encounters ONLY and went ahead. We tried the KDM-story site, to have a more immersive experience, and I noticed the settlement phase flowchart (that I got with 1.5, but assumed it was the same) which cleared it for me.
@coreychaves95053 жыл бұрын
Can you point me at this? Because to my understanding a Nemesis Showdown absolutely IS your showdown for a lantern year.
@maddyfromwas3 жыл бұрын
@@coreychaves9505 That's the trap: you dont get one "showdown" for a year, you get a showdown after a hunt, which happens at the end of the settlement phase, and a special showdown instructs you to go to the death count step. Nowhere it's stated "of next year", and almost nothing is left to guessing in this game (also, if you got the 1.5 game, in the settlement phases thingy, where the order of steps are shown, it shows exactly how to do it, I just never noticed)
@coreychaves95053 жыл бұрын
@@maddyfromwas Nemesis Showdowns are NOT special showdowns. Special showdowns are very specifically called out. The jump back to the death count ONLY happens in the case of an actual Special Showdown, such as when a nemesis is summoned by the Heart Flute. A normal, on the timeline nemesis showdown does, in fact, lead to the end of the year as it occurs after the end of the settlement phase just like a normal hunt does.
@maddyfromwas3 жыл бұрын
@@coreychaves9505 Uh, what do you know, I was right and my friends managed to make me double take it completely. Yep, it's not a special showdown so you skip the hunt.
@FrozenFlesh3 жыл бұрын
One thing a lot of people play wrong are special showdowns. Not every Nemesis encounter is a special showdown. Another thing are lantern years. In step 4 of the settlement phase you advance to the next lantern year. So the lantern year begins with the settlement phase, next is the hunt phase, and last is the showdown.

But what I would've added was: - Reiterate the critical wounds a little, the fact that you need a crit effect to be able to crit in the first place, being able to crit even though your strength may be inadequate and a lantern 10 always being a wound even if you can't crit. - Nemesis and special showdowns. Nemesis encounters replace hunts and special showdowns happen in the middle of the settlement phase and are an extra showdown for that lantern year. People easily mistake nemesis showdowns being the exact same as special showdowns (because special showdowns are typically against a nemesis monster) when they actually just have special conditions to them.

I think the comment on Crit is that you can crit only on crit locations. Also, if no crit location - you cannot hit with the +luck status but only with your STR. Let's say toughness of 40. You only wound on Lantern 10. But if you have Luck +3 you wound (and crit) on 7+ on a crit location. But if it's not a crit location - wound only on 10. Another example - Founding stone cannot wound if the drawn card has no crit location! (and you lost that stone, causing no harm. Arrrrrrg) Believe this is more confusing than the "10 on a hit does not wound yet" and perhaps that was the intention of the writer.
