On my bushnell it's clear if i have it in slope mode yet my playing partners use Motocaddy rangefinders and unless i use it i can't tell if it's on or off!

Is it frowned upon to use a app like swing u pro and turn in a scorecard for a course record? Or same senario and count it towards handicap?

Love the variety of videos and especially on rules. One I would lime to ask is if your ball lies underneath a replaced divot as this actually happened to me. Do I have to play it as it lies, in a divot with turf on top?

Hello Stephen - a similar thing happened to Jorge Campillo in Abu Dhabi this year. It would depend whether the divot was still attached or unattached. if the former, you would have to either play it as it lies or take a penalty drop; and if the latter, it would be classed as a loose impediment so you could remove it, but if you moved your ball in the process, you would be penalised.

I’d like your opinion on me and my friends new rule for fall golf. It’s called “leaf relief” no penalties for a lost ball in the leaves as long as everyone can agree on where to drop the new ball

Hello there - if that's what you all agree for friendly play, that's your call, but you couldn't do that in a competition unless Local Rule F-14 was in force, which I've pasted below. In addition, any leaves clearly piled for later removal would constitute Ground Under Repair, but that wouldn't apply to just an area of rough or fairway covered by leaves from the most recent fall. F-14 Accumulations of Loose Impediments Purpose. At certain times of the year, piles of loose impediments such as leaves, seeds or acorns may make it difficult for a player to find or play his or her ball. A Committee can choose to treat such piles of loose impediments in the general area or in a bunker as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1. This Local Rule may not be used for penalty areas as relief is not available for abnormal course conditions in penalty areas. The Local Rule should be limited to the hole(s) where problems are created by such loose impediments and should be withdrawn as soon as conditions allow. Model Local Rule F-14 "During play of the [specify hole number], any ground with temporary accumulations of [identify types of loose impediments] in the general area or in a bunker is treated as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.

When we are playing for fun, i.e. not scoring for HCP or comps, we play "tour" rules. So we emulate the pro tour conditions by having crowds who can kick the ball back into play, perfect lies on the fairway, no lost balls and we are all miraculously fantastic putters too. Golf is supposed to be fun and anything to make it easier helps. We mostly play this end of season since you do need to practice everything preparing for tournaments.

In example #3. Suppose the ball is not found or Lost.. is the only option to go back to the last spot-drop under S&D? Or can player drop where it went in for - 2 stroke penalty?

can you demonstrate nearest point of relief and actually show dropping in to a worse position ie in heavy rough or in a bush. players tend to think you dint drop in theses areas when they are the nearest POR. thanks

Can you use slope function on laser when just playing a casual round you are intending to submit for handicap?

No, you wouldn't be able to if you wanted the round to count for handicap

@@jeremyellwood4515 that's another interesting point. Poor amateurs can't use slope but currently the yardage books on PGA tour give the slope so the Pro's can work it out.

Please can you clarify. Must you always have the tee markers in front of you teeing off. Reason being 2 winter mats on teeing ground side by side one hand red markers other didn't.

Miriam the teeing ground is between the two tee markers and 2 club lengths behind them. So if the other mat wasn't in that area you can't use it.

Hi Boys a big bone of contention in my club is marking your ball so as to be able to identify it.. there are unfortunately quite a few players that refuse to mark their ball..why they don't do this they will not explain apart from saying "I don't have to mark my ball" What is the standing here ? they are of course in the rough quite often and find a ball of the same type and then claim it as their ball.This gives arise to many fruitless discussions...which spoils the round for the other players..hope you find time to answer this or even make a video with this scenario...thanks for all your hard work .. stay safe and take care now in these strange covid times..

Hello Brian - yes, we think it would be better if they did but Rule 6.3a only says you 'should' put a mark on your ball not 'must'. And when it comes to identifying a ball, this is what Rule 7.2 says when you go in to the full Rules, rather than the player's edition, with the third point of particular interest... A player’s ball at rest may be identified in any one of these ways: • By the player or anyone else seeing a ball come to rest in circumstances whereit is known to be the player’s ball. • By seeing the player’s identifying mark on the ball (see Rule6.3a). • By finding a ball with the same brand, model, number and condition as the player’s ball in an area where the player’s ball is expected to be (but this does not apply if an identical ball is in the same area and there is no way to know which one is the player’s ball).

Many years ago i hit a shot into the rough. I found my ball sitting well down in the rough and could just make out my id marker without the need to lift it. Wheni hit my shot two balls came out of the rough. A penalty for playing my ball and not intentionally playing at another ball was harsh. Has this rule been amended?

Hello Ant - I don't know if the Rule has been amended at any stage, and if so, when, but certainly in 2012 when that same scenario happened to Jose Maria Olazabal at Gleneagles there was no penalty for hitting a second ball he didn't know was there. Unfortunately for him, he then went on to play the wrong ball on his next shot as both were Titleists and I guess he didn't check thoroughly enough!

No 5 !! Nearly every club competition I have processed would have a scorecard not signed or handicap missing. Its unbelievable!. The other bug bear is the first tee and people playing in 'handicap order' and not as per the start sheet, when people sign in for the comp they dont ask or check the order of play.

I love the game of Golf but the rules bullshit that go with it go a long way to putting people off taking it up. It's hard enough to play without thosands of rules made up by men in blazers to give them something to do in retirement and hold a bit of power.
