The child actor who played Daniel, Milo Machado-Graner did a fantastic job. He deserved more screen time and I wish the film has explored more of his psyche.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I don't think giving him more screentime would have made for a better movie. Every appearance he made was exactly what was needed for the development of both the story and his character, Daniel. Showing him more often would have diluted that presence and left us with a more confused perception as to what and who the movie was about.

I never thought, that Sandra did it, to begin with. But the prosecutor was clever and tried to some success to bend the story into a jealousy drama and Sandra getting rid of weakling in cold blood. But the real drama lies somewhere else anyway, IMHO: did Daniel in his testimony make up the story about his father speaking really about himself and not the dog or was that the truth? Daniel's mental torment is so high he even poisons his beloved dog just to prove a theory. This scene f'ed me up beyond anything else.

sandra hueller was always a generational talent and i'm really happy that her hard work now lead to her being recognized with all the nominees. she will win an oscar - i have no doubt about that. could have won it this year - probably should have. she is also outstanding in zone of interest

I also think she sould have won this year. What she did on Anatomy was masterfull, so subtil, yet intense and credible, a bit like a documentary but better... she's a master of her art, for sure.

It was an accident, the dog’s ball did it. Samuel was throwing the ball down the stairs through a hole in the attic flooring. Snoop brought the ball back to Samuel and then was called by Daniel for a bath. Samuel tripped on the ball and fell backwards out of the window. Pay attention to the first scenes and also when the reporter is silenced when giving the verdict you can hear Snoop’s footsteps.

I like this idea! The times I have stepped on cat toys and almost fallen are numerous 🥴 Such fantastic performances by the dog and by the child actor especially ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

@@blue7cat10 Sandra herself didn’t believe he would kill himself, she says as much to the lawyer when touring the attic. The director has also said to pay attention to the dog’s behavior towards Sandra indicating that dog wouldn’t cozy up with her at the end if Sandra was a person with violent tendencies. It’s an ending that I can feel good about. 😊

Its a shame that 2023 was one of the Best year for movies that I can remember and even though so many of these movies were recognized during awards season, more people didn't win. Sandra was phenomenal and strong enough to win something. The young actor basically was ignored for any nominations and barely talked about

Could anyone explain the dogs toenails against the floor at the beginning credits, two important time in film and at the end? Also it made me wonder why a boy would put his dog in harms way performing an experiment. It occurred to me that Daniel's dog, who left his ball on the floor where the husband was working could have jumped in him propelling him through the window and The son didn't say anything for fear of losing the dog. Those nails on the floor though.

Unlike many other countries, France and Germany have work hard since 1870, WW1 and WW2 wars to develop a close relationship and never repeat the horrors and mistakes of the past. They are close countries and shares many notions now, they don't always agree on what is good for Europe but they are very determined to always find a common ground. It was all possible because Germany worked hard on its shame for 3rd Reich and never repeat what happened and France wanted to forgive and to believe in the good will of Germany. So yes, actually the relation between Germany and France couldn't be more cordial.

@@petercohn4325 Hello Peter, I agree with your assessment of the movie, it was very well done. I personally liked "The Society of the Snow" better, but that's just me. My comment, and I've made a few, has to do strictly with the verdict, which I thought the writer was not true to her own script with the not guilty verdict. In my opinion, and it's just my opinion, the evidence presented pointed to guilt, and the jury would likely have preconceived notions based on the defendant's cultural history. I hope this adds clarity.

Sandra didn't kill Samuel, but I sure would have. He used her like an emotional garbage can.

He resented her success and blamed her for all of his shortcomings. She encouraged him to write and he still couldn’t accept any responsibility for his own position. Saying that, I totally agree that she didn’t do it- she didn’t need to. She would have been okay on her own and I think she knew that. She would have left him before doing that.
