I'm old enough to remember when drivers like Gary Ormsby, Kenny Burnstien, and Big Daddy Don Garlits, were fighting for the first 260 and 270 MPH passes in the 1/4 mile, using top fuel funny cars and dragsters. My respect, to those who are pushing those boundaries today

@Ga Fin Those are the vents for the crankcase puke tanks. Normal current Promod cars have the valve covers vented into the frame rails at the front of the car, and the catch can is connected to those same frame tubes in the "trunk" area. Smart idea, it gives whatever oil escapes plenty of time to fall out of suspension.

I have a question, my dad use to street race when he was younger and my mom told me that even back then people would trailer their car's and or drive them to the road and they raced a quarter mile, why are they only racing eighth mile now and rarely do you see quarter mile races? My father died in 99 when I was 17 and he had a 66 Dodge Coronet with a 440 and it had the cage had big Tires on the rear and the motor wasn't stock. I wasn't into cars then and actually didn't even start paying attention to drag racing or cars till about five years ago.

Thank you.. I too.. hate 1/8 mile racing 1/8 mile racing was met to be easier on parts.. but when i see some of them 1/8 mile videos and I see alot of motor damage parts flying everywhere.. Then there are cars leaving the track flying up in the air like the car is one of the space shuttles.. I don't get it.. lol.. they are not saving any money because when they are run there cars to the point that you and your cars are leaving the track like I said it was one of the space shuttles.. by destroying your car or destroying the engine's by running the 1/8 mile because remember racing the 1/8 mile is to help you save on parts...

It's a light used pretty regularly. Top half pre-stage and bottom half to engage system.

Redman147 - The bottom portion of the circle or the 'staged' lights would only 'activate the system' if the drivers were both staged and the system was in 'autostart' mode. Otherwise, the tree is still manually started.

Yes these are promods. Yes they will run in the 5.90's to 5.70's EVERY pass.

kris lee yes a Nissan 4cyl can run 6.20 but how many times? I know those cars don’t run that very often. That’s why the record was held by a gm ecotec motor for 3 years before someone broke it. Those cars can’t run that time constantly while these cars are running half a second faster consistently and more reliably then that 4cyl.

Average is 2000-4000 depending on setup. And they do not have to full rebuild after every run like top fuel. But some nitrous guys have to swap pistons between runs. All depends what happens during the run with the specific power adders.

Jonathan Dolby track is completely flat with an uphill incline after the 1/4 traps to slow down the cars. NHRA runs 4 wide here.
