I was all prepared to touch on my thoughts on each story you mentioned, but then you hit us with A Father's Story and... I don't know, I feel like I've lost my words haha. I'll have to go and read it after this. Those first descriptions of it, I was like "wow, such gorgeous imagery", but then you read "what creates despair is the imagination that pretends there is a future and insists on predicting millions of moments, thousands of days and so drains you that you cannot live the moment at hand" and... I almost feel exposed. It's like someone has just put words to a struggle of mine. And I think that's something I love so much about literature: it gives us words for our situations, for our feelings and thoughts. It teaches us about what others might be going through and allows us to connect to or at least get a glimpse of a world beyond us. And when you mentioned that there's a portion of the population still excluded from literature, that's so true. But I almost hope that that's an encouragement to people to write their stories or the stories of others. We all need our horizons to be broadened. Thanks for the video! Ahh that's exactly it. That whole story is just filled with moments that people can relate to in some way or another, no matter how far away from the main character they might be. Dubus is an unreal writer, I'm reading a full collection of his right now, and it's only getting better. Appreciate the well wishes, thanks again for watching!
