That some directors have quit? 4) All these new players just seem to try and SQUEEZE franchise holders and PISS them off - instead of coming up with other innovative ideas. 5) We were told 1 BILLION people were watching Miss Universe, but only US ratings matter? 6) Adam I agree with everything you said but - a lot of this seems like POOR management and bad decisions to take the blame as well! Miss france is older than Miss universe and is a true tradition among several families in France each December. It is broadcasted on the biggest network in europe and the show is spectacular. It is not only a regular pageant but rather a spectacle (it doesn’t focus on the competition and catwalk/speech aspect as much thought its important). Most people who watch are not even fans of pageantry in general but average people who like the production. Also, the queen gets a better reign than miss universe herself, she has gift and instantly becomes a celebrity in France. The girl is then set for life. Unlike other pageants like the miss universe/world etc…franchises in which the queens are only selected for the sole purpose of competing for miss universe.

Point 1. In terms of broadcasting: to be fair, a whole New generation of viewers prefer online platforms - and the future of television is in streaming. Point 2. Trump was amazing with PR and his leadership of organisation is reflective of that. He left a legacy for MGI to follow which might not have been carried out by the current ownership. The issue is perhaps because it’s not led by an experienced team. Point 3. MW is an utterly outdated boring pageant. If it completely dies out, I don’t think it will be missed. Point 4. I think it’s a question of affordability. I honestly think the crowns have always been rented more than they are sponsored. The global increased inflation might be a factor in this. Point 5. Pageantry has been in decline for years. Part of it is because it’s highly favouring only a handful of countries year after year and is therefore highly predictable. Not to mention Most of its viewers are also from developing countries who can’t afford much so what’s the point of even shelling out glamorous business ventures?

Hi Sir Adam. I believe that the one pageant that is starting to be irrelevant is Miss Universe. Miss International, Miss World and Miss Earth are still great pageants. Great thing the three stick to their brand, advocacy, values and prestige. Miss Universe however is slowly becoming a joke because of its new owner and the way they implement the rules. If you watched Miss Universe during the Trump and IMG Era, it was really prestigious and beautiful. When Khun Anne entered the management, the pageant became a complete circus. It is not the same Miss Universe anymore. It lost its glamour, its prestige, its reputation as the best pageant in the world, the universe rather. Don't get me wrong, I have high respects for LGBTQIA members and I have lots of friends in this community same with the mothers wives, plus size, any age, etc. BUT they should have their own pageant specifically made for them. I know inclusivity is great but to the point that the brand is being tarnished and made into a circus is not the thing we want to see in Miss Universe. It is MISS, for single, natural born women only. NOT MIX UNIVERSE. My heart goes to Miss Earth Pageant, our very own PH based pageant which is fair and square compared to Miss Universe nowadays.

The relevance of beauty pageants today is a subject of ongoing debate. Beauty pageants have been criticized for various reasons, including perpetuating narrow standards of beauty, objectifying women, and reinforcing gender stereotypes. However, proponents argue that these events can provide opportunities for personal development, talent showcasing, and philanthropy. In recent years, there has been a shift in some pageants towards emphasizing qualities such as intelligence, social awareness, and community service. Organizations have also taken steps to promote diversity and inclusivity, attempting to move away from solely focusing on physical appearance. Ultimately, opinions on the relevance of beauty pageants vary. Some people view them as outdated and potentially harmful, while others see them as evolving platforms that can empower individuals and contribute to positive social change. The perception of beauty pageants largely depends on one's values, beliefs, and priorities.

If we want to preserve pageantry, we should establish pageantry as a strong niche. We should accept the fact that we will not be as popular and mainstream anymore, instead we should develop pageantry as a niche, but with a strong global following. Hence, this is why social media presence is very important. Pageantry is still anchored on that archaic traditional television broadcasting system and pageantry simply needs to keep up with the times. I mean, they are keeping up with the times, but in a way that it is ineffective. People can see through the actual intent of things so obviously, they won't buy that inclusion and empowerment thing. Pageantry should instead focus on capitalizing its current audience rather than appealing to newer ones, otherwise it will not be sustainable.

I used to LOVE pagenats. I used to dream about being a beauty queen. Whenever I would encounter haters, I would defend pageantry with all my heart. However, my perception changed when I became a state title holder for a Big 4 pageant. Long story short, I left pageantry because: 1) the financial consequences. It was very expensive to compete at a national competition and I'm still digging myself out to this day. Everything was paid for by out of pocket. 2) misleading: as a model and a professional in marketing, "sponsors" = businesses that pay you to advertise. In pageant world, "sponsors" = businesses that the contestants PAY to and advertise. The businesses get free advertising AND money from the contestants. All the while, the general public thinks that it's the other way around. 3. Predatory leaders: the people who benefit of contestant's hard work are the coaches, the "sponsors", the boutiques, the hmua, the directors, etc... i was given very terrible financial advice from a coach whose friend was benefiting from said advice. Fortunately, i saw right through it. 4. Beauty standards: while there's plenty of little minor pageants that have normal looking winners, when was the last time you saw an international winner look like a normal woman? They're all gorgeous, tall, slim, hourglass shaped, with narrow noses, almond eyes, perfect vaneers, etc. So many title holders get plastic surgery to have that look. Place queens side by side, and you'll notice that they all start to look the same. Even the girl who won my competition started getting cosmetic procedures after she won. As a state title holder, she talked about embracing her natural beauty and loving herself as she was 5. They nickel and dime contestants. $1,000 entry fee, $500 fee for the opening number, $300 mandatory donation fee, $100 people's choice contest minimum requirement, etc. Who gets to see this money? Why are they asking for so much? 6. I never received my prize package for my state competition. 7. Unrealistic prize packages... $10,000 **worth** of prizes! Wow! I hope my landlord accepts this pretty dress as my rent payment! Im sure the grocery store will accept these plastic rhinestone earings in exchange for food! Meanwhile, I invested real cash into this competition. More than what these prizes are worth Those are my issues with pageantry as a former suoer fan and contestant

Alternatively, it can also be argued that pageantry has become a niched market. Parang yung mga indie films/bands. They are not popular to the general audience but they are popular to their small but highly devoted fans. To appeal to a broader audience, a pageant must have a higher purpose (aka a solid advocacy like ME). To appeal to the solid fans of pageantry, it needs to have glamour (HD, camera angle like MGI). So for me, in order for a pageant to survive, it must evolve without alienating its core audience (Hallo universe you are alienating your core audience with all that woke sh1t you are injecting). A perfect pageant for me is a pageant which has a solid advocacy like ME with the glamour of Miss Grand. So, for me, ME has the most potential to reign above other pageants and to survive. Mahirap yung advocacy part at perfect sila dito. Yung glam part, madali.lang ito.as long as they hire seasoned professionals.

I do agree with you.It's already started the downfall of peagentry and it's more obious this years 2023 na ang pageantry ay hindi na kasing popular noon. Pahina nang pahina ito. Maybe after 10 years from now may mga pageatry na hindi na mag-exist.

Remove halu

As a pageant enthusiast these are some of my personal insights why pageantry is slowly dying. 1. Too much inclusivity particularly Miss Universe. MU they abolished age requirement. They allowed transwomen and single moms join the pagent. DISCLAIMER: I am LGBTQ member but I totally disagree transwomen joining the pageant. 2. Some of the pageant owners are controversial or they're making their pageants more controversial (gimmicks) to gain popularity. 3. In the past years it has become more political and they're of the money they can earn. (MU and MGI) 4. Pagent coronation delays. (MW and ME) 5. Franchise battle. Particularly here in the PH. Miss Universe PH is now a separate pageant. Before it was under BBP. After MUPH separation personally I lost my interest.

Observation ko din, sobrang saturated na ng pageants. Parang every year, may bagong pageant.
@georgebasister19299 ай бұрын
Doesn't matter, it's so superficial anyway and now with no exceptions in civil status and no age limit, it has become a circus of sorts, specifically MU.

miss grand international has a lot to offer, it could be our last hope for international pageants at least of grand slam. they offer a whole show and lots of fun activities
@kennfreediver58159 ай бұрын
Maybe pageantry is slowly dying because it is losing its relevance and significance. There are only a few pageants that are true to its core values hence people sees pageants as entertainment hence they only take interests during the show and after that, it dies a natural death. Just my personal thoughts.

Pageantry is not popular in the US anymore. Kaya hindi na nakakagulat na binenta ito ng US Company kasi hindi na sila kumikita sa US. The trend is going gown. Lalo na sa mga progressive countries. Sa Southeast Asia at Latin America na lang relevant at sikat ang pageantry. And the sad part nagiging chippy na ang datingan ng MU lalo na worldwide ang balitang bankarote ang new owner. Nakakaloka I have no issues with mother/married women joining MU but I really cannot aupport trans joining MU. Masyado nang inclusive ang MU. Sabi nga nila go woke go broke But still, as a certified pageant erkling, umaasa pa rin for the success of our beloved MU.

Rather contradictory as we have more international pageants than ever, more men’s pageants as well….and yet pageantry is supposedly dying?
@heyadamg37059 ай бұрын
Well here In the ph, it’s not but in more western countries like usa, Britain (where ms world is based), it’s dead and it doesn’t help that all these new pageants sprouting like mushrooms are diminishing MU and Miss World’s luster

Unfortunately, change is the name of the game. I for one, I don't watch tv anymore. Only KZbin. People care more about vloggers these days than actors. So unless the actor starts his own channel, he is going to lose job in the next years to come.

I think wala ng excitement about pageants kasi nakikita na lahat sa social media bawat galaw ng candidates before the preliminary and coronation nights, and there's a lot of prediction these days, Unlike noong trump era na wala pang social media nakikita lg tuwing finals yong mga candidates kaya nakaka ecxite talaga manood and the pacing of the pageant are very fast wala ng cheche bureche unlike ngayon dami ng eme, Pati soundrack noon sa final look sobrang Ganda naka focus lg sa candidates yong attention ngayon may performer na, And the candidates haha no offense sobrang nakakaloka ngayon wala ng age limit and may mga transgender na,nagiging woke na ang pageantry ngayon and c'mon we all know its not working so please stop this!!! Iba na talaga ang essence of woman ngayon,

i disagree with many things you said...i watched ms universe live in new orleans , los angeles with miss lian ramos and MJ in doral, florida...the one in new orleans was the loudest and most magnificent preentation of the three..nowhere have i seen shows as lively as ms universe,,,i thought the stage was going to explode with all that screaming and stampeding of fans and the venue was filled to capacity...MISS UNIVERSE IS A POP CULTURE OF ITS OWN and will never die...if khun anne fails, another businessmn will catch it...who here in america watches television now? we are in the 21st century ..all of us are into social media and you can turn soc media on and watch it anywhere even inside your own toilet,,,we did away with TV because cable vision was charging us 280$ permonth ...so we got hold of the internet in tv for much less than that..its the otherway around, television is dying so who cares about tv rating...next wave of economic and scientific boom might be in asia so miss universe will be more popular than ever...many americans and europeans love pageants{ask the french} but it is tacky in the west to talk about beauty pageants....such hypocrites
@heyadamg37059 ай бұрын
I was there in New Orleans too and the auditorium wasn’t filled entirely. Yes, the front and middle row seats were full but the side and back portions were empty.

Yes, you may have a point about viewers shifting to their smartphones for viewership but popularity of it up to this day is my point of this content. Similar annual spectacles like The Oscars, Golden Globes,Super Bowl are still being watched on tv. Even Miss USA last year was seen on CW. Whether we like it or not, a show still being carried by a mainstream media network still contributes to a pageant’s “popularity “ or “relevance.”
