Do you feel a little distant when you're with your friends or family when it used to be so effortless and easy? It might just mean that you're changing and growing.
This happens because people change at different paces and pursue differing values and interests. This is a completely normal fact of life that should be embraced, not avoided, and in this episode, Pye and Dr. Glen walk through 5 signs that you may simply be outgrowing the people around you.
1:55 You have high differentiation
12:15 The people around you are responding to you negatively
17:39 Even your healthier interactions seem unhealthy
25:26 You are constantly scapegoated
30:08 Your independence and health takes priority over fitting in

One of the worst feelings I experienced is when sharing your feelings of passion, excitement and joy that comes with working on something you love is met with blunt and empty looks, uninterested attitude and depressive face, or even a dumb joke.

What a deep conversation. We humans don’t talk enough about cultivating friendship which involves everyone. Too much of the conversations are about Romance which we really only need to get right with one person. Thank you for the thoughtful enlightening conversation and dialog on a really tough topic. ❤🙏🏾🔥

This is so me in our family. Everything boils down to deciding over fitting in or honoring who you are. It sucks when you see others not rocking the boat bc they don't want to not being liked. kicked.

You have no idea how relatable this was for me. That is exactly the steps i had to take with my family. Tried again, and am feeling resentment once again. I am also now learning to not cut off, but just distance myself, so as to not open the door to be hurt again. Trying to learn from mistakes. Yes, and the mutual support is absolutely not there. So sad, but true. And yes, although it hurts a lot to come to the realization that it is better to stick to your values and principles, than fit in, there is a satisfaction level, that you will never get when you 'fit in'. I call it peace.

I have friends all the way from high school and I can see that my friend group is growing healthy but one of my friends in the group is not growing. How do I bring this up to them? They feel left out whenever we have a get together and we share our stories and adventures with each other.

It’s not appropriate to place the child to confront the Parent scold them in psychological terminology CLEARLY taught by the OTHER parent even though it could be ABSOLUTELY the TRUTH that’s NOT healthy either 🙄if there’s clearly PHYSICAL abuse allegations or anything else the PARENT CAN and SHOULD REPORT it and KEEP the children in his custody SHOULD there be child abuse present and or maybe 🤔50/50 CUSTODY put into action so the KIDS can have as MUCH TIME POSSIBLE with BOTH PARENTS till of legal age of 18

Yeah right!!! This was so odd they way it was just mentioned in the intro to the discussion. Things are probably different in my country but I worked in social services for five years so I know a bit about these types of cases. the “protective” parent should be withholding contact between the children and the abusive family members if the children are being emotionally abused like this. Make a report to social services and see if they have any powers to order supervised contact or if they recommend going to court.

Should be careful though not to do be independent, because it makes you feel superior.

You know you're outgrowing the group when you're constantly scapegoated. This is so true. I always doubted myself of something was wrong with me. But it's really just I didn't want to be at the same table with them anymore. Just wanted to do things I enjoy and what brings me peace.

Grow up & stay the hell away from me with the lame shit especially if you can't be honest about being broke opportunists who crashed out at ya own greed to destroy me. I gave you everything you needed to RISE UP & you still failed. Get up & keep them war stories to yourselves ✌🏽 the ship has sailed & I'm not playing with y'all goofy ass no more.

I enjoyed this conversation. It really hit home for me. I was feeling I did or said something wrong to family and friends. I've always liked to learn, do new things and challenge myself. Some friends and family don't want you to change and that can be a problem for them because their not doing that in their own life.

I loved this episode 😊 There’s something so reassuring in the way you illustrate these types of experiences or behaviors that’s so relatable, and then having a professional psychologist let us know that’s a healthy part of growth. Such a great dynamic, and content from you both, thank you!

I did not know the jargon use for word “differentiation”, it just wasn’t in my radar, but it was exactly what caused issues. When you detailed the group dynamic especially, I was actually bullied and slandered by groups but did not back down, I couldn’t have tried to fit in the way others demanded. I blankly refused and wondered what the hell mob spirit they were so stuck in. I left my toxic family and whole networks behind bc of this, but the people who were into personal growth in a meaningful way, are still around and though we are distances and lifestyles apart in many ways, the inner growth factor is present and keeps the connection. These videos are excellent resources, thanks for just expanding the thought processes out loud so well!

Really interested in this topic (randomly came up on my feed) but had to stop the podcast 12 mins in .. sorry ? I might have misunderstood but the host is saying that some of his children spend part of their time with a mentally unstable mother and grandmother and that isn’t supervised contact? Why not? Perhaps the threshold in the country for intervention is very low in the country this person is from but where I’m from this would be deemed as not acting protectively in sending your children to stay unsupervised with emotionally unstable people. A report should be made to social services and/or a lawyer consulted. I’m guessing it’s some American “well this is what the courts decided” type thing but even so it’s very odd it was just dropped in as a casual anecdote in an intro for a topic about friend relationships. Now I’m just thinking about those kids having to spend time with their abusive maternal family.

If you really want to take a look at a “science of differentiation” and different energy/personality types, take a look at Human Design. There are certain types that are naturally separate from a group and operate outside of the group so that they could observe and impact it. Those types are called Manifestors and Projectors guide groups. Generators are the pool that flock together. Aside from these types we either have collective, tribal, or individual energetic channels which affect how we operate within a group
