Brad came up with a good one in another video about Meniscus Tear. When figuring out which direction to rotate your hands in that position where you lift your foot up onto a chair to bend your knee, (6:27 in this video) he said that you turn your hands in the direction of the big toe. Works for both legs and is easy to remember for me.

I've had knee pain for years. I'm 28 and I do martial arts, the knee pain doesn't bother me as much when I'm exercising, and it tends to come and go but when it does come, it tends to linger for a day or maybe a few days. So when I do my exercises, I discovered that my knee will eventually pop and when it does I notice that the knee hurts less. You mentioned things that made me wonder what you'd think of this. Will watch all of your videos about knees because knee pain stinks, and I don't like it.

Ugh yes, my knee was injured during a parade walk for cheer. Our coach had me trade places with the girl who was in front of me (happened to be the team captain) because she kept messing up the dance and when we stopped to jump, she was diagonally behind me and kicked me right in the middle of my leg and I felt my kneecap pop out and back in place. Tore my meniscus and partly tore my acl. When I was finally able to get X-rays done the guy just said “well most people don’t need surgery for this, a lot of people get this kind of injury and just live with it” so I just did physical therapy and now it feels like I’ll forever have a bothersome knee. I hate the clicks when I’m walking up stairs or pushing something heavy lol.

What if it doesn't hurt straightening it, but rather when you try to fully curl it as in like a squat or catcher's stance? Even if when I am seated and raise my leg up so to then pull my ankle back toward my thigh, I feel pressure in the knee. I don't feel such pressure or pain in my good knee when I do that. I also feel some pain when I sit Indian style which seems maybe similar to that "figure 4" test you did.

Heyo guys, cheers for your groovy videos :-) 20 years ago, I had a full tear of the PCL caused by a skiing accident. After recovery, I was able to resume a normal active lifestyle. 5 weeks ago, I slid forward on artificial turf playing soccer and hurt my left knee when trying to cut to the right and backwards. Instead, my foot slid forward on the artificial turf and the knee buckled with the leg in an extended position. It felt like there was a bulge on the back of my knee. I was able to bike home with minimal pain and went to sleep - there was no swelling. In the morning, there was swelling, limited range of motion and tenderness on both the inner and outer sides. I could still put some pressure on the leg and 2 weeks later, I was able to walk normally. Last week, I went for an MRI and CT Scans and they showed no anomalies other than some degeneration on the menisci. Basically, I’m able to run lightly and hop on the left leg without pain. None of the tests above caused any pain either. However, there is a little swelling on the front of the knee and I can only extend to about 165 degrees. When trying to press both knees down to the floor with legs extended, bottom left can’t touch the surface and is still 3 cm above the right knee. Does that meet the criteria of a locked knee? Also, I can almost flex to the point where the ankle touches the posterior but the last 8cms cause intense pain specially if pressure is applied at the same time, as in a full squat or kneeling backward on the floor. Orthopedist suspects I have a bucket handle tear and suggested an arthroscopy to partially remove the torn tissue. My question is, if the bucket handle is not showing on the scans and all meniscus tests are negative, is there anything else which could cause the acute pain when trying to flex to the maximum? Many thanks!

Cheeriooos caballeros :-) Since I'll be traveling overseas for 6 months soon [in 4 weeks time], the choice is either to operate in the coming days or postpone till I get back. My main concern is the torn segment/loose debris irritating healthy tissue, like the synovium or cartilage, if it is not removed. I'll check again whether the bucket handle is showing on the scans or not... atm the knee is pain free and all mechanical symptoms like clicking, popping or grinding have stopped last week. Only remaining issue is the incapacity to achieve full flex/full extension in addition to the swelling surrounding the patella. If the only explanation for the pain during full flex is that the bucket handle is pressing on the nerve endings, then I'll opt for its removal. Since it''s only been 5 weeks, perhaps if given more time, the knee could regain it's full range of motion with physio alone... decisions, decisions...

Doc wants me to take an MRI. Had me walk across the room on tip toes- had no problem doing so. Then had me walking across the room with my toes lifted, I did that just fine. Right knee pops when bicycling. It's gotten bad so I can no longer bike, but I seem to be running just fine. He's wondering if its a meniscus tear but we won't know til the MRI. Is there a reason why it kills me when I am biking?? and not so much on other activities? Great video, thanks!

that's so wild you'd mention that because this guy adjusted it as low as it could go and I felt less knee pain for awhile. then the bike shop people told me that guy was wrong and they adjusted it a little higher but, the pain right now is so intense! The doc asked me if I could walk tippy toes across the room, and then if I could walk with my toes up using my heels. I performed that just fine. He moved my knee around and it didn't hurt at all. It was only when we tried to bend it, I could only bend it 60 degrees before pain. Wish I could see you guys in person!

OMG! When you did the "bounce down", I almost threw up! I've had so many hyper extended knees over the past 30 years I felt pain as I saw that knee of yours lock!!!! I had an orthopedic surgeon tell me I have a torn meniscus in my left knee because I mentioned I have pain at the back of my left knee when I'm using my right foot to "scrape" my left shoe off without untying it. He finished his diagnosis by having me sit in a chair, calf 90 degrees to thigh, and then he pulled forward (towards him) on the back of my calf. The pain was excruciating. Where would that test fit into yours, or it is #6? :) I love your videos; I learn so much!! Thank you for your public service!

Thank you so much for this video! I want to share a quick story: I live in Illinois and I played college basketball back in 2015-2016. I ended up having a injury in practice, where I felt my knee pop but continued to play because the pain wasn’t fully there so I didn’t think much of it! After practice, up until this very day, my knee would lock up and I would feel something rolling around the front of my knee cap. I’ve had 2 mri’s, nothing found but fluid around my knee . I’ve made multiple doctors appointments and I keep getting the same result, going home with a knee that would lock-up after the smallest activities or no activity at all! This video is the exact same way that I need to explain to my doctor whenever I make an appointment lol! Could I’ve been possibly causing more damage for not having been treating it for this long? Thanks for the video!

Ugh, I had knee surgery last December to washout an infection, and my knee has gone through pain and stiffness. Now my knee is bending with no problem, but there's pain when I straighten the knee when putting sharp pressure on it, such as running or jumping. I think I have a torn meniscus, but I really don't want to see a doctor or go to physical therapy (not that I won't DO physical therapy, but I don't want to go to the doctor for it). I went to physical therapy for one session when my knee was having trouble bending, and for that one session, in which she (the PT) gave me some exercises which I rarely did but still got my knee to bend to its normal range, I got a $360 bill. FOR ONE SESSION! Now that this pain has been happening for about 2 months now, I'm very nervous and don't want to give in to the possibility of more doctor appointments.

Great video! Is there a reason you didn't include a standard McMurray's test. My research told me that the Ege's test is is also known as a modified McMurray test or a weight-bearing McMurray test.

I’m young and I ran my knee into the ground playing sports I waited a few hours after and then I realized my knee hurts bad I tried most of these (the ones that I could) and the squat one I’m pretty sure my knee clicked and the first one I felt a lot of pressure mixed in with a little pain I don’t know if it’s just a bruise or maybe my kneecap got pushed to far back but I don’t know I’ll just wait a day or two see if it still hurts
