In the extended edition, there is reference though brief to Thorin’s father Thrain having the last dwarf ring of power. Galadriel refers to Sauron as “servant of Morgoth” Among the dwarves, the name of Durin the Deathless is dropped a few times, both in reference to Thorin’s line, his sword is called “Deathless” in reference and Thorin drops his name as an explanation of confusion “What in Durin’s name is going on?”

@@TheKnightess Well, first of all, I think the Fall of Gondolin itself could make an entire movie or part of a season for a First Age tv show. Imagine seeing the city in the Valley of Tumladen for the first time! And then the whole story surrounding these events! Not only the Siege, but the day to day life of these people as well. The forging of the swords you mentioned :) Being a forest lover myself, I'd of course want to see Doriath and Beren and Luthien's story would feature the forest. I'd want to see the Girdle of Melian and how it works visually and of course Thingol and Melian themselves. This too, could be a movie. And then anything regarding the Sons of Feanor and their tragic fall, and the redemption of Finrod Felagund (such a cool character). Not going to lie as I'd like to see the great battles as well as Earendil's Plea to the Valar and the War of Wrath itself. Sorry for the enthusiasm, but the First Age is my favorite and it's a shame that almost every media released outside of books (games, movies etc) are always featuring the Third Age. So far, however, I'm VERY happy that we're getting the Second Age with Lord of the Rings on Prime. Imagine seeing Numenor and the Crafting of the Rings of Power! We're in for an amazing ride (I hope)! Long message, I know, but I love Tolkien. Keep up the great work with your channel! :)

For me, it could have worked as a trilogy, let's be honest The Hobbit is a short book at really just skips ahead between moments. Things like Dol Goldur and fleshing out Bard and Thranduil were needed it's just the way they went aboit it. And the real rrason it sucked was studio interference, insusting on the love stories, Alfrid taking up more time than he should. If Jackson had the time and freedom, it would have been an epic trilogy.

I like how, when confronting Sauron, Galadriel essentially banishes him with the light of Beren and Luthien's Silmaril. The Silmaril they took from Morgoth after Sauron failed to defeat them. I'm sure Morgoth was not best pleased with Sauron when he learnt he'd had them in his clutches and failed to capture them. Disclaimer: Yes, I know it's not the ACTUAL Silmaril, that's up in the sky with Earendil, but it is the LIGHT of that Silmaril non-the-less.

At 1:27 minutes, you see one of the only remaining scenes of Gil-Galad, the Elvin King, who was cut from the theatrical version due to indifferences with Peter Jackson. This was the only restored scene, though very short. W.T.F. is he to deny LOTR fans this epic, and very important character? I would very much like to see all Gil-Galad scenes restored to the movie out of respect for J.R.R. Tolkien. No wonder why Christopher Tolkien denied him the rights to make The Silmarillion.

I wouldn't consider the three Gondolin blades to be Silmarillion references, since they were first introduced in the Hobbit and LotR. Any mention of them in the Silmarillion would just be to explain their history. You wouldn't say that Obi-Wan's mention of the clone war in Episode IV was a reference to Episode II, since Episode IV was made in the 70s and Episode II was made in the 2000s. Episode II was made to explain how the clone war started.
