Since having seen Passenger live last December, I've been dotting down everything I've thought of when it comes to things that interest me. I've written songs about people sleeping on the train, the life my friend might live when he's 80, tea. I'm having so much fun writing and playing songs, and I won't ever have a global hit. But I wouldn't want to have it any other way.

I always thought it would be impossible to write a song given that I had no training in music, until a really black point in my life and I just wanted to find a new way to express myself. So, I just bought a cheap ukulele and did it. I didn't believe I'd just done it, so I did it again, and again. I'm not a music genius by any means -- no-one but my friends really even listen to it -- but you're saying things that totally made sense to me and how I do stuff, and since I love your music, that's very heartening.

and as a uni music student I can absolutely confirm that having grades etc on an instrument doesn't mean shit as a musician. being a musician is having a relationship with your instrument above anything else, not whether you can read some notes on a page

this is so motivating and helpful! I used to do lots of song writing as a teen and then stopped, cause I thought they were all rubbish (they probably were) and meant nothing, but I just had so much fun writing them and experimenting... what i truly love about this approach is the freedom? that isnt the correct word. im only familiar with music environment which is urgent and competitive. your approach must be well planned, technicality>musicality, fun means nothing if the end result is bad, and so on. being exposed to such a relaxed approach is like a breath of fresh air and it genuinely pains me to see lesser artists be more known than you. your take is unique and genuine which is rare

But Tom why are we not talking about the captivating frame of the video. Certainly, it gives an edge to the video. the camera is placed facing you, the subject, and yet there is an astonishing depth in the background. there is the sofa and trees. and I don't know this frame is very exciting.

so when we analyse structure and form in English lit, writers aren't actually thinking of it
@cameronpettifor97167 жыл бұрын
it depends your approach to songwriting like some people write purely through theory rather than feel it just depends on which approach you prefer imo
@Kapow147 жыл бұрын
actually i think writers are thinking of it, and are very intentional with it. because the structure and little bits and pieces of metaphor, allusion, rhyme, theme, etc. are the writer's version of musicians' dynamics, emphasis, or notes in a song. it's all about creating a feeling and a story. now, maybe when writers get to a certain point theyre thinking less about it only because its so much a part of them from all the reading and writing they've done in their lives that they become into their art and are able to work within that to create something new.
