Pure old school genius that you're teaching! Having great pride/confidence in oneself and one's work to beckon the customer to weigh in on THEY think the job is completed to expectations they had. And you get asked to come back again because of this! It seems much less common now than when I was growing up.

Overall it's been a SLOW summer but the Fall season is the time for more grading and seeding projects

@@bluecordprecisiongrading2504 Local Tractor Supply has over-stock of fresh seed in middle August. I go back first of September and they have stored it until next year and will not fetch me 100 pounds for my own use. I tell manager that it iis just now getting to planting time for cool season grass and that the seed will lose viability by next year. She is sorry, but they need the shelf space for Halloween and Christmas items..... Maybe they saved me money since we are indrought anyway.

Going to be purchasing a ventrac in the near future. What attachments would you recommend for someone starting out looking to do this kind of work part time?

Now THAT'S a loaded question :) Because of the numerous attachments for the Ventrac, you have so many options. I can certainly advise you but that's best done over a phone call. I offer professional consultations to prospective buyers and those looking to streamline their business and maximize profitability.

how do you know how much to charge for jobs? is it per hour? per job? what software you use to write up proposals?

That's actually a loaded question but a good one. Not all contractors are the same, meaning they have different skill levels, varying attention to detail and quality of work. Inflation aside, I'm charging a LOT more than I was many years ago when I first started. A lot has to do with the experience I've gained and also my reputation. I'm an artist, and those that do their research quickly find that out and that is highly valuable. In the end, a job is worth what a customer is willing to pay and you figure that out as you go along. That software I use to send quotes is "Jobber" and allows customers to pay with a credit card if they desire.
