I've realized that God speaks in a small voice because He's telling me what He wants me to chose to do, instead of scaring me into doing it. If it was a big loud shout all the time, I'd obey resentfully, like a slave, rather than friends. I think that's why He doesn't show up to everybody to convince us of His existence: We have to seek Him as though He is there, chose to believe He is there, before we find Him. Gods friends aren't annoyed that He exists.

Your statement about first choosing to believe gave me some assurance that the invitation to come to Jesus still exists in an honest way. Thank you ever so much for your wise words. There must be a majority of people, who say the sinners prayer, raise a hand or even walk to the altar, but never understand why they experience no change. Years ago my work was with logic. It seemed reasonable to first need evidence of some kind. I wanted to be saved from a lifestyle of worldly mistakes. I wanted to make sense of the scripture. I said the prayer a hundred times to no avail. Then one day I wanted to escape from yet another worldly relationship. It's been 45 years and as clear as yesterday. Sitting together in the grass, I told my friend I had been "saved." I told of all I knew about the grace of the forgiveness of sin and being accepted into the kingdom of God. I was beginning life again and I wanted to live in agreement with God's will--as best as I could. When I first opened my mouth, I was just repeating what I had heard. By the end, the spirit of Jesus had taken up residence in my heart. I began to love my family in more serious ways. I noticed the problems of neighbors and genuinely cared. I began to dress differently. I didn't set out to try and look holy. It was just that, before long, I noticed the change. I'm shut in now, so I can't really say how the good news is preached. Several nearby churches are locked up like a failed bank. But I can't remember ever seeing any effort to get people to understand the simple truth you stated. Decide to believe and seal the deal with confession. When Jesus moves in, he brings a suitcase full of faith with him. Faith and love are gifts that can grow. We can hear God's direction in the Bible. There are different gifts that may come, and the still small voice is actually a low whisper in the ear. But the people I most admire are those who are faithfully serving without requiring some miraculous evidence. God bless you in your future and ministry.

You’re right, but everyone can hear from God. There’s a difference between using the gift(healing , prophecy, knowledge, wisdom, speaking in tongues, interpret tongues, discernment, faith, and miracles) and operating in an office (prophet, teacher, apostle, preacher, or evangelist). The Holy Spirit can use any of the gifts through anyone. It’s possible for preachers to be prophetic and for apostles to work through healing and for teachers to have great wisdom and supernatural knowledge. Does that help?

@@koreyknockout When God reveals something, it is through an apostle or prophet(Eph. 3:5). There is no biblical precedent for local ministers prophesying. This is one issue I have with your view on prophecy. You say that the word that God gives is always accurate and authoritative, but the mouth of the one it comes through may misunderstand and misinterpret what God is saying and that’s why they get it wrong. Can you show me one example in the Bible where a prophet get a word from God and he doesn’t convey the exact words that God said? Look at Daniel. He received words and revelations from God and he wrote down or said exactly what God told him. Then it says he would think about those thing and there were times he did not understand the visions. What he didn’t do is get a word from God, then interpret it with his own mind, and then relay what he thought God was meaning by what he said. If God truly is giving you a word, you repeat exactly what he is telling you are showing you. You do not interpret it and then relay it.
@TimBunch Жыл бұрын
A word of prophecy may be misunderstood by some and not understood at all by the one giving it. But that word, if from God, is not wrong. It should also be plain and specific. There is a lot of abuse in this area, along with practices based on the occult. Prophetic patterns in the OT should persist in the NT era, especially repentence and salvation.
@onehappydawg Жыл бұрын
@@TimBunch Exactly. If God spoke to me and told me to tell someone something, I would relay exactly the words God told me to say. I would not try to interpret what God told me to say and change what He has said. I would say exactly what He said and then try to interpret if if it’s clear. That way the word is accurate and I can say, now if you don’t clearly know what that means let’s try and figure it out.

I found it uncomfortably unbiblical, like some form of gnostic mysticism that says it is ok to flippantly to misuse Gods Holy name if your heart is in the right place. That is called taking Gods Holy name in vain, that is blasphemous. Basically i believe these guys are teaching to practice witchcraft. Their theology is based upon extremely bad false teachers that arrived 120 years ago and their false doctrines permeated the church. If some so called prophet cant be 100% sure God spoke to them how could anything they say ever be trusted was actually from God? They use unbiblical terms like "I feel, i believe i sense god said" as if God cant really speak clearly to them and that it is somehow our fault that we do not hear clearly. Do we control God? Is God incapable? Are we more powerful than God? Of course not! If God chose to speak he will and it will be perfect. We already have that and it is called the Bible. It is complete and equips a believer for everything. These guys maybe really nice people with a true love for God but this teaching is shockingly wicked and evil. I use to practice and teach what they teach for years. Now i see i was a fool. Scripture provided me with the truth and it is awesome. God promises me that as i read his word his Spirit will lead me into all truth and i trust in that promise. Anything outside scripture i found in me and others led to dangerous doctrines, deceptive lies that had an appearance of Godliness. Guessing these guys won’t answer your question.
@NomosCharis Жыл бұрын
As a Calvinist myself, I’ll go ahead and take a shot at it: Calvinists don’t say that we don’t need to receive salvation. That’s a caricature. Receiving salvation is something we must do; we must respond positively to the gospel if we wish to be saved. What makes Calvinism unique is the teaching that we will infallibly do that, ie receive salvation (freely, not by coercion), if we are among God’s elect, since God will see to it that we do. He does this by circumcising our hearts through the gospel, granting us a new spirit, and thereby changing our deepest desires, which sets us free to love God, desire salvation, and believe, things which in our fallen state we are not able to do. In this way, we are both responsible to receive salvation but unable to do so unless God mercifully grants it to us. If he does grant it, we will infallibly receive it, since by his Spirit within us it becomes what we most want to do. Therefore, God is also fully sovereign over if, when, and how we receive salvation. We are responsible, and God is sovereign. Both are true. I imagine they probably believe something similar to this with regards to receiving the gifts. When God is offering a gift to us (like a gift of healing, for instance), we play a role; we must receive the gift in trust and obedience. However, we cannot fulfill those obligations apart from God’s special grace, which grace, if he gives it, will result in our trust and obedience. If he does not give it, we will do what we naturally and always do without God’s help: disobey. That’s why we pray to the Lord, “Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless and innocent of great transgression.” (Ps 19:13), and many other such prayers. Like Augustine once prayed, “Lord give what thou commandest, and command what thou wilt.”

Languages were close enough to get the same general meaning if you are hearing them as if in your own language. Saul was looking in four areas basically named one, two three and four. The Edomite had said somethin like, " there is in this quarter a seer." He will tell about the mules. So, you see, Saul would not offer Samuel a "quarter." This is just one example. Harmonious tongues? (The schools of prophets were also in four quarters.)

This was really good and such a interesting topic! I'm still trying to figure out if the last prophecy I received was a false prophecy. It seems to reinforce the ideas I had about my relationship at the time, which turned out to be very unhealthy but I did not know it yet. So basically this prophecy seem to lead me to think that this terrible relationship was a good relationship. So that makes me think it's a false prophecy. But then I'm wondering what if the prophecy was for a time after I ended that relationship, and it hasn't come to pass yet? The only thing about this prophet is that they tend to prophesy a lot of financial blessings over people and it makes me think they're prophesying for itching ears. However, this lady did seem to know something about me, but I'm unsure if it's by an evil spirit that she knew something. I have had prophecy before and then one hundred percent sure it was from God and knew exactly how it applied to my life. With this most recent prophecy it seems extremely vague and like I could bend it to mean whatever I want it to mean

From what I’m hearing from you, it may sound like you tend to want to do your life through what people or yourself hears from God. Is that itself healthy? My son had a relationship that went bad, on looking back he says he saw red flags but ignored them because he wanted it to work. He wouldn’t say it was prophesy. It was just in choices that the girl was making were iffy and according to scripture, the choices were violating scripture. I also prayed for his relationship at that time it was going. I could say that the Holy Spirit pressed upon him to notice the red flags. As this example and comparing it to yours, I don’t know why you would want to seek something mystical. God gave us wisdom and the Holy Spirit to guide us. He didn’t want to confuse us with everyone practicing prophecy. I also see that the word prophesy is used quite a bit as “sharing the Gospel”. That has everything to do with pointing to God and caring for others to do that. Talking about what you “hear” doesn’t have the same emphasis. It can be confusing like how you just shared.
