I have been dabbling in the Charlotte Mason approach for a few years now. While I don’t do this approach exclusively, I appreciate the simplicity and beauty of her method. Essentials in my homeschool week are poetry, nature and picture study. I have found that in all of my research Sonya’s advice and explanations are golden. She breaks everything down so beautifully. She just has a way of explaining things. I could listen to her for hours. 😀 thank you so much Sonya. ❤️ God bless.

I have been watching your videos for weeks now and I am OVERJOYED at how they have changed what our school will look like. I felt like I was drowning and every time I watched one of your videos I was given hope and inspiration. They have come at the perfect times and given me exactly what I needed to really make my children's education what I've always hoped it could be. Thank you a million times!!!

I’ve just begun my journey of learning about homeschooling and Charlotte Mason. I’ve been overwhelmed as I have thought about planning this next year. And I’m even a former public school teacher! This was a perfect video to put things into perspective for me and take me on a step by step journey into planning. Thank you so much Sonya! I’m so excited for this more purer philosophy of teaching- which is really more about guiding children into becoming life long learners.

Just started watching. I have been home education for 7yrs. Nothing has been in stone. It's been more so unschooling with Montessori. A couple of months ago, i stumbled upon Charlotte mason. Were leaning this way

Hi, Thank you for reaching out with your questions! Here are a few ideas. In a Charlotte Mason approach to education, lessons are short which will leave time in your day for other occupations, which leads to the question what do we do with that time? Here is a helpful post with some great ideas on that topic. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/productive-afternoons-in-charlotte-mason-homeschooling/ Here are a few posts specific to screen time as you describe that to be something he likes to spend his time doing. Each individual family will need to make their own decision on how to approach the use of screens in their home and what their limits are around them. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/screen-time/ simplycharlottemason.com/blog/together-isolated-taming-holiday-screen-time/ In a Charlotte Mason approach to education there is a large emphasis placed on the idea of habit training. This may or may not be something that you have already started with your 14 year old, however in reading the post and the way you describe him, this may be an area to consider. We can all continue to work on our habits and improve them even as adults. Coming alongside our children at any age to help them establish good habits is something that will serve them well moving into adulthood. Here is a post that touches on habit training with older students if you are interested in reading more. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/habits-q-and-a-starting-with-older-children-dealing-with-negativity/

Is the big picture for the year or the 18 years?
@SimplyCharlotteMason5 жыл бұрын
Your big picture overview should be for all 12 years of school. You'll narrow to a single school year in Step 2: Your Year.
@yom123455 жыл бұрын
Can you offer more examples of big picture? For me my only big picture is that we have a strong bond and connection
@SimplyCharlotteMason5 жыл бұрын
@@yom12345 Think about what skills and values you want your child to have when he or she graduates from your home school. Here are a couple examples for specific subjects, taken from the Planning Your Charlotte Mason Education book: History: My goal is for my child to understand people's roles in history and how they affect life today. Music: My goal is for my child to appreciate good music and to learn to play an instrument for his own pleasure and for others' enjoyment. Your goals may be different; that's why this is how to plan YOUR Charlotte Mason education. The important thing is to detail those goals in the Big Picture step so you'll have a basis for deciding what you'll be teaching.
