This was actually their debut stage^^ so the first ever performance and the backstage after was so emotional. SHINee didn't get any Promotion and people didn't know they would debut until basically 2 days prior. They were a secret and SM entertainment labeled them as an experiment not expecting them to last because of their experimental style. After they promoted themselves by giving out lollipops with their name on it and giving out their album to people like some do with their mixtapes. U really gotta respect the hustle.

As you are starting to realize, SHINee are amazing live. The ONLY thing SHINee is not good at is lip syncing, so they have specifically trained since their debut, to build stamina and endurance, in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight and always sound flawless while performing these intense choreographies. It may be shocking because they sound so flawless even though they are dancing so intensely, but that is why they are such legends and why they are so highly respected in the industry. SHINee are referred to as CDINee or CD-eaters, because they sound even better live then they do in their studio recordings. It is a running joke between fans and the members that you can tell when SHINee are lip syncing because they are so bad at it, that is why they avoid it at all costs. So when you hear SHINee sing, 95% of the time it will be live. (If you ask any of the members, what is something you are not good at? One of the very first things they will say is, "I am horrible at lip syncing." -- I have heard the members say this multiple times with my own ears.) Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, what you will hear is live vocals. Other Idols and audio sound technicians, etc. who have witnessed SHINee performing live are always blown away, because in the parts of the song where most singers would take a break and rely on the backing track vocals to cover their voices so they can catch their breath and recover, this is where the SHINee members actually ramp it up and become their most powerful. I guarantee, that if you were to listen to them singing a cappella while performing some of their most intense choreographies, they would sound just as flawless. That is why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive. When SHINee debuted they were the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing intense choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee was the group that changed the industry and proved that if you wanted to compete you needed to up your game. SHINee live is unmatched and it's literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate. You really need to check out some more of their live concert performances because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear. Nothing compares to SHINee live. Their MVs are good, but those same songs sung live in concert are on a whole other level. "Replay" is literally considered one of the best debut songs of all time for any Kpop artist because it's so timeless and it never goes out of style or sounds outdated no matter how old it gets. This song means so much to SHINee and Shawols. And this is why SHINee are Icons. They perform "Replay" at every concert and practically every live event and variety show they attend, and yet it always feels fresh and new because they never do it the same way twice. I couldn't believe how tough shinee was when I first heard them dude. They make me wanna cry dude, they got that comfort sound i grew up wit, idk how to explain it. I recommend you listen to Prism (watch their Comeback Stage of that song, its so good. Two excellent recommendations! Don't Stop is one of my all-time favs. It's just too bad there isn't a live version (at least I haven't found it yet). Two suggestions, I have, Wishful Thinking (makes me think about Earth Wind & Fire-the harmonic structure) and Romeo & Juliet (back with R&B vibes- adlibs for days). Both WT and R&J have wonderful live versions.

They always sound 1000x better live than in their cd tracks. On lives they sing louder, do more ad libs, more harmonies. I really want to recommend Romeo+Juliette from 2009. They go all out in that song. It was only ever preformed 2x in 2017. It would be nice if you to put it on your list. Their song Best Place from 2008 has a similiar beat and vibe like Replay. Their 2008 album ranks high as 1 of their best albums ever. That is pretty insane when they were literal children doing the most professional job that they possibly could.

Great reaction! I’ve been listening to SHINee almost exclusively for the past couple of months. There’ are so many good songs. They even have live versions of some of their songs on audio streaming services. They are truly phenomenal. There’s even a video somewhere where the staff (in a control room of sorts) turned off the MR just to hear only their voices coming through the mics and they sounded so good. Amazing that they can sing so well even when they are dancing. Supporting SHINee always.

SM is built on Motown, so I'm not at all surprised you find 1st and 2nd Gen groups have a particular sound to them. SHINee is, however, a contemporary group, which means they do everything from tropical house (View) to super jazzy something (Alive, Trigger) to ballads (Moon River Waltz). This is, I think, their debut performance, and it was LSM himself who said they should do it live. I genuinely can't think of another band who debuted live. And yes, they do sing better live than on their cds. CDnee!

I still react like that when Replay comes on. The song just never gets old it's insane. And yeah they somehow manage to sound better live which makes no sense with all the moving and dancing lol. Shinee GOT7 and Exo are unbeatable live stage, like they sound even better than the audio version that’s crazy lol! Also this song also make me think exactly about b2k, Mario, Chris brown « Yo » era it’s so true 😂 Fun fact about this song in the audio and first stages Taemin actually had no line because his voice was transitioning, tho on their latter performances and concerts he does sing in the song now

honestly once you get into SHINee, the other groups will just pale in comparison. i myself cannot find it in me to listen to music or live stages from other groups anymore. SHINee used to train their live singing by singing while jogging - it's been documented in a reality series that they starred in back in 2008. and it's no wonder they're already at this level sorta good even at debut, can you imagine how they're like years later in their career?
