Wait, wait wait. The people are "cold, pretty racist, quite rude sometimes". All I can say to that is my partner is Polish and moved here 10yrs ago and she found us here in Aberdeen FAR more welcoming than in Poland and each of her Polish and central European friends who moved here ages and my own English friends have said much the same thing. Have you thought that it might have been you who's the issue?

@@teethgrinder83 I actually said from the beginning… its our experience. It may be different for others. However, we always prefer focusing on the positive side of things despite the bad situations that happened to us. I would just say… don’t take it personal because I am not generalising and I met some really nice people too from all over the world in this lovely city called Aberdeen 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@@Hallfamily23I'm not taking it personally, I know I'm not that way and as I said my partner and I know plenty of people who think the complete opposite. I think my comment came across wrong-i was typing it more out of utter bemusement. I'm guessing that was a typo when you said you weren't generalising because what you said there was pretty much a textbook definition of generalisation. I'm happy you did meet plenty of nice people here, I will say though that if you're going to make a vid saying those types of things expect some pushback (I want to make it clear though that those talking about how "your the reason we need independence" and other thinly veiled bigoted comments I don't agree with (despite being an independence voter-that has everything to do with Westminster though and not England). I dunno I just don't think some of your points were thought through very well despite them being your own personal thoughts-i mean of course it's going to be freezing here, we live right next to the North Sea, the hills in town really aren't all that bad imo (I say that as someone who isn't allowed to drive because I have epilepsy and so walk quite a bit) and I addressed the comment about Aberdonians not being welcoming. Anyway have a good weekend 👍

What a load of Absolute bollocks!! I lived and worked Torry in Aberdeen. “Not very friendly people”? Those Jock’s are awesome people. Really looked after me. Despite the misconception that the Scottish are tight, they are the amongst the most generous folk anywhere. I’m a Scouser and I felt at home in Aberdeen.

1. Yeah, it’s bloody freezing. 2. Yes, it’s pretty grey. The architecture can look amazing and very unique in a certain light. On a winters morning with a hangover it’s a real downer. 3. Yup, it’s a long way from anywhere. 4. I don’t think Aberdeen is particularly hilly. Certainly not compared to Edinburgh. 5. I met some great people.

Born in Glasgow. Brought up in Fyvie and Aberdeen in the North East. Got fed up waking up with my bed clothes frozen, kettle solid, brown icy slush covering all the roads everywhere - and that was in the summer!!! Nowhere and nobody in Scotland - especially Aberdeen - could provide me with the my next steps in life so I moved to London. I miss Scotland, but not the grey city by the grey sea. Sadly I agree with the almost all of this video. It could all be so very different. Insular arrogance and ignorance prevents what could be a great city - and its people - from being what it could be.... One last note. The only part of the UK not to embrace my successes in life and use this a bridge to get local people hired into major UK (and global) industries was Scotland. Really! I was never - not once - asked back as an external examiner, guest lecturer, consultant, etc. Consequently I hired people from Wales, Ireland and England, which did ask me.

@@Hallfamily23 think every single person who lives in Scotland is the best group of people to decide what happens in Scotland. Scotland is a nation. Every single person who lives here, whether born and raised or more recent arrivals, can be part of Scotland and become part of the Scottish people. Together, we'd be better to run Scotland together. The alternative is to let posh boys who went to Eton Oxbridge etc in Westminster run us all. I hope you and your family find your place in Aberdeen and in this country. Welcome. And aw the best.

Point number five... Aberdeen never seemed unfiendly growing up. But when I moved abroad I was surrounded by English expats who told me how rude and unfriendly I was! I think people from Aberdeen are slightly scandinavian in their approach to social interactions. We're not trying to be rude we just don't have a lot of spontanious social interactions. I guess a lot of people come up here and take it personally. As for the racism thing... I think that says more about the kind of people youre interacting with than Aberdonians generally. Because since we used to be such a magnet for oil workers I always found it to be a very welcoming and dynamic city.

@@animovie1 I think you are right! Once we moved back to Aberdeen we have been meeting lovely people and I think it has to do with mindset as well. If you think positive, you attract positive people 🙂 I do think scottish people have some similarities to scandinavian as you mentioned as there are factors like the weather that are reflected in lifestyle & personality of locals ! Thank you so much for sharing your opinion here 🥰

I have lived in Aberdeen since 1986. Originally coming from north east England. It has obviously changed a lot over the years multiculturalism is great. Back in the 80’s & 90’s, I experienced a lot of I would say hatred & racism because of where I was from which was unfortunate. Not so much these days. As for the weather & isolation..
