5 Things I Dislikes About the LUCCA M58 From Clive Coffee (2023 Version)

Hey y'all, I wanted to review 5 things I dislike about the Lucca M58 from Clive Coffee. These were honestly super small details that I noticed and thought I should highlight as they can potentially impact your espresso-making. Overall though, this machine is phenomenal to use on a daily basis, hence why it was so difficult to come up with these 5 grievances.

To protect the scale, search for USB Dust Plugs. They a little covers for the USB port that should help keep water out. They are under $10 for 20 pieces.

For the scale, use a USB plug. A good idea for any electronic device. A good point on the timer. I video every shot, so not a big deal for me. You are using a spouted portafilter? I threw mine away. Mundane equals classic. Pitchers are a personal taste and an extra cost for you and them.

I own a 2022 LUCCA M58. I fully agree with increasing the shot time display after pulling the shot. That has always and still bothers me.

Strongly agreed! I've recently switched to the auto start and stop timer function on the Acaia Lunar scale.

What is new about 2023 version ? To me looks identical as version 2 from 2019-2020

I worry about the same thing with my scale. I have just started to turn it to the side to prevent the water from getting in the back, but it definitely bothers me.

I've tried that before and definitely is way better! But, another person mentioned USB dust plugs which could be more suitable for the long run. Lemme know if you try using the USB dust plugs yourself :D

That’s interesting that they wouldn’t include a pitcher & make the portafilter like that

I agree! I wonder if it’s a cost cutting measure…although buying milk pitchers in bulk shouldn’t be super costly for them.

Synk last longer

Quick Mill (from Italy) and ECM (from Germany) are highly respectable brands producing long-lasting machines! When you look at the technical specs for both machines, they're very similar. One noticeable difference is the steam boiler capacity, The Synkronika has a 2.0L capacity vs 1.4L on the Lucca. This leads to better steaming power. But in my personal experience with the Lucca, I've been able to easily serve 15-20 guests cappuccinos or lattes. But if you're looking for a super slick and highly crafted espresso machine, then I would go for the ECM Synk since all the touchpoints are well-crafted and refined.

You’re complaining about water discharge that is literally on every e61 espresso machine ever. No one ever talks about it. If you’re worried about a scale compared to a $3000 machine you might need to check your priorities.

Hey Kyller, your astute observations regarding the e61 group water discharge are noted. When a scale costs $250, I think it's in my best interest to limit water ingress to ensure its longevity. Luckily people mentioned getting USB dust plugs and it's been a game changer :)
