Great video! Nice to see a review of life with a manual. Currently planning on a build in my 1UZ powered '93 SC400. I don't look forward to stop-and-go traffic in the manual. Hadn't thought of the other things you mentioned. Appreciate it.

First of all thanks for all your vids that you’ve continuously posted here they really inspired me to fix many things in my first car - 98’ gs300. Second I'm surprised that you’re driving this car without vsc and other safety whistles, hope that the place where you live is always warm since I almost died in my car on the icy road and the only thing that saved me was VSC (I was using proper winter tires). Keep posting new videos I was so surprised by the amount of love to this old car and the quality of videos! Thanks again and stay safe

I feel the same about my CD swap in my aristo. Mainly the stop and go/hill starts. The clutch setup makes it tricky to take off quickly and smoothly without jerking around or spinning the wheels

I just want to say I'm really proud of you for doing the manual swap. Overall are you satisfied with the swap? Looking forward to the supercharger vids. I own one of the few 05 GS430s made and have been debating doing a manual swap and supercharger install or an Aristo drop in swap. Leaning towards keeping the V8 since they're becoming a thing of the past unfortunately.
@ForwardMomentum2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I enjoy it a lot. And people are pretty impressed I did it myself. Not that I care, but it’s pretty neat to share my experience with them. I would keep the V8 if I was you. The GTE swap is insanely expensive in the end.

I know that feel bro, running Getrag260 5speed - same vibrations and gear noise but I got stock cupholders (had to weld the shifter itself it different form). But hey, there is a good side of this - your new transmission can easily handle boosted UZ engine (A650E will break on 350hp if it's left stock) And you can go skids where and when you want to - that's awesome))

Thanks for your honest feedback about the mods that you’ve done. Your transparency is refreshing and helps others make realistic decisions. I will be curious how the supercharger will affect drivability as it relates to your manual swap (I.e. in stop and go traffic). I am keeping my rig mostly stock as there is already plenty of maintenance to keep up with. That said, your mods set some good outer limits as it relates to these cars. I do have the ProXS mufflers in my garage and ready to instal. Thanks as always for your patience and willingness to record your journey 👍👍👍

All in man! These are the things that puts the brake on me to swap to a manual, especially at an older age with kids and mortgage too lol. Great vid. Keep it coming. 👍
@ForwardMomentum2 жыл бұрын
Exactly why I made it; to help folks make a good decision. When you go manual it’s almost as if you strip 10-20 years of technology off the car. 😆
@JeiceNismo2 жыл бұрын
@@ForwardMomentum agreed. With my GTE swap, and the VSC not working, I feel so naked without it. Because I had my GS for so long and everything was working perfectly (the VSC saved my life once) and when VSC wasn't an option anymore with this swap I was so bumped. I'm keeping my GS auto and the rest of the Lexus options ... lol, you helped me confirm that decision... lol ... thx.

I converted to manual my v12 1gz-fe swapped gs300 with an ar-5 and i still have my oem cup holder and console 🙂 just needed a little weld but i need a better clutch kit cause of torque, i also have a torsen lsd and a 3.76 diff very fun car but the rpm limiter is too low on stock ecu 😞
@johnshaw32082 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the straight talk on the livability with the manual. Well worth the tradeoffs. I would love to know how much faster the manual is over the auto allotted things being equal. When you install that supercharger, you're gonna need an LSD!
@ForwardMomentum2 жыл бұрын
YW. Yeah, an LSD will be needed. Thanks for the comments!

I remember driving a 5-speed '96 civic some years ago in Houston traffic. Didn't mind at all since i loved driving that car. I just kept it at 2nd with few a car lengths in front. I could easily take off smooth in a hill. If it was very steep hill and a car behind then I would use handbrake. I love the smoothness of my '98 sc400. Probably won't manual swap. Would rather buy another rwd manual car.

I feel the perfect transmission would be one of those ZF/BMW dual clutch transmissions with paddle shifters, very few have done it to the JZS though, so very hard to get it working.

There will be some issues but the pros out weigh the cons soo much
@ForwardMomentum2 жыл бұрын
True. I just want people to know what they’re getting into. If you drive 100mi each way to work losing CC might be a deal-breaker for example.

Another excellent video Christian! BTW, how is the open diff working with the manual? Are the burnouts spinning both wheels? I'm about do dive into a OS Giken 1.5 way LSD swap for my GS400. Also, how practical would it be to install an aftermarket cruise control?
@ForwardMomentum2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The open diff is ok at these power levels. Occasionally it will spin both, but it mostly does one-tire fires. 😆

Is there a way to make it not jerk? It looks like old truck. The best manual transmission I drove was on Mazda 6. That thing worked like a bolt action rifle.
@ForwardMomentum2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if I rev it up a tad more it’s smooth. The lightweight flywheel creates a little jerkiness.
@xTruthxWithinx2 жыл бұрын
So the cons are unimportant for someone who would just like to swap a big body Lexus/Toyota to a manual.

How does the power and snow button still work?
@ForwardMomentum2 жыл бұрын
The switch impacts throttle response as well as AT behavior. So the throttle response feature still works. It’s crazy, I can lug the car at like 1800 RPM in SNOW in 4th gear and flip the switch to PWR and it takes off. The same thing happens to a lesser extent when I do it in Normal and switch to PWR. So in a weird way SNOW will actually help me in slick conditions.
@Tomy_Honk2 жыл бұрын
That’s news to me. I always thought it was just the shifting. Power mode just feels better honestly on the gs300
