The speed limiter can be removed. It's pretty simple. I had mine removed while in Germany. It's just a program in the ECU that be changed with the Mercedes disgnostic scanner thru the OBD port. My C350 is set to 155. My friend had his E350 unlocked totally and it would run about 175. As you may know, the European cars, even the 2.0 L 4 cylinders run 155 mph. Like I said, it's just the limiter in the ECU. I believe all the unlocked Mercedes will run up to 175 mph.

I think this is a 5.5L v8 and not the Bi turbo 4.7L. The 4.7L has great aftermarket support and can achieve 540hp with just a tune from Renntech.

100%. I (regrettably) have the 350 coupe and kick myself everyday for not getting a 550 when I had the chance. Still, everything he said in this vid applies (without the proper HP on my end, but still enough). It's a "gentleman's cruiser" that can get a little rowdy when you take it to 9/10th's, but that's not what these are about.

Great Benz and love the open coupe lines. I’ve got the E550 sedan, basically stock Sport package and air suspension. Yeah you missed the point of the car. It’s a GT designed to carry a German businessman over the Alps to Italy and back at 100mph+. It’s not a drift car lol.

I have the same car, manual up/down shifts are way faster in sport mode, try it out! Speed limiter can also be brought up to 155 with simple variant coding.

Body panels, exterior parts, and xenon headlight assemblies are definitely expensive, but everything else is not at all relatively speaking. I (regrettably) have the 350 coupe and in my soon to be 5 years of ownership, parts for my mom's 3rd gen TL are usually more expensive and sometimes close to double if not actually double price. My sister's W203 C230 sport's parts are more expensive in many cases. Very good summary also. It's a gentleman's coupe. A comfortable, confident cruiser. It's a bit two-faced though when pushed hard because it initially feels like it won't do it, but I've found it almost always does. I haven't had the opportunity to hit the 130mph limiter as I'd have to go out at 4-5am to have any open road here, but up to 120-125 it doesn't let up whatsoever. Pano roof is the biggest chassis engagement downside and possibly the lack of B pillars. They are both nice touches when you're in the mood for them though, especially no B pillars and all 4 windows down.

Weistec does nothing. The 5.5 can’t be tuned. At all. You’re getting maybe 20 extra horses. This isn’t the m278 that can be tuned to AMG levels.

Left my BMW550 for the E550. I find the BMW was far more comfortable. I do like the added HP. speaking of which....have you considered Weistec or RENNtech? 540hp and over 700ft/lbs. Thats AMG stuff. No limiter. Overall it's a great car for my purposes.

@@Jawnwickk 550 x drive is more of a drivers car. BMWs are lighter and more nimble. You feel the road more than a merc. I love Mercedes but they’re more about comfort and straight line fast. And the after market for the TT in-line 6 bmw makes the bmw faster.

what years do you all have ? If you have the V8 TT you'll see those massive gains. With the NA version you'll see a little power increase but really the benefit for the NA tune is no limiter

I have the 2012 TT with MASSIVE gains from Blackboost and Weistec. Limiter removed. I have ZERO complaints and do not share the sentiment about this car. You need to pay to play. Would you buy a Rolls Royce and then complain about a $40,000 part replacement? If you can afford this car then a $1,500 ECU tune should be nothing. I am at 600hp with just a few changes.... You cannot get much out of NA cars - take the S56 in the E92 M3.. there is not a lot you can do aftermarket to really change that car. If you drop $10,000 for a supercharger this M216 is STILL beating that M3 every time. Endless things you can do!! You bought the wrong year, 12 and up with the M278. Renntech tune will get you a claimed 540hp and 705tq. It also gets rid of the speed limiter and changes the traction control programming.

You can get a body kit from royal body kits and upgraded turbos from much boost which is what I really want to do with this car. Look up tc concepts e coupe it has 700 hp with a wide body kit.

Insurance would help a lot if it costs 2000 to fix that’s crazy I had a pretty decent accident on the front end of my car they changed all the parts and painted for about 8 grand and changed my windshield all I had to do was pay the deductible for 1k

U need to check out renntech aftermarket mods. I have 2013 e550 coupe biturbo and bought an ecu tune from renntech in 2013 and got 530 hp and 606 tq. Now rentech has a ecu that gets 540 hp and 707 tq, tgere is a tcu upgrade, sports exhaust, lowering module etc. I think you may not have done must research on aftermarket mods.

That’s only for the bi turbo model tho, I have the 2011 NA. 2012 and up they switched to turbskies. Unfortunately if you look up the mods renntech has for the NA it’s pretty minimal for hp gains…

He’s not lying. He has the N/A. I have the 2014 E550 (bi-turbo) and I did black boost intake, MBH down pipes and stage 2 eurocharge tune. I’m getting around 550hp/680tq and it’s dull. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fast.. just not fun fast. I even did the carbon fiber rear diffuser and carbon front lip from SUVNEER Motorsport along with carbon mirror caps, pan america grill and even replaced the stock wheels with 19” Rohana RC22. I just feel the car is boring.

Got the same damage btw :) I hit my fender and a headlight, but I found a manufacturer in China 🇨🇳 and I bought 2 headlights for 700$(new) and yes is adaptive, and for the fender I’ve paid 75$ or 150$ don’t remember (aluminum), in US it’s about 450$ And yes it was no chance to find a good diffuser on it so I ordered a custom kit from Russia 🇷🇺, front lip, skits, diffuser (custom size from the new E63) and brabus tips Tomorrow gonna install it, will see what it looks like But overall the car makes a good job, you can put a girl in it and feel good, they think is about 2019(if is polished and has nice wheels)😅, and another day you can easily smoke some mustang GT or scatpack, but yes something is wrong with the character, but if you have only 1 car and if you want to sit on two chairs at the same time, it’s a good option Btw did you lose some HP when deleted the resonator? Bcs I definitely lost, after I deleted it and was driving home I was so disappointed, the difference was huge

Cruise the forums for all the common faults and do pre facelift W204 homework as these are built on the same platform and share about 60ish% parts. Easy cars to live with and sort relatively speaking. If you're not wrenching, at least be able to diagnose.

Yeah, I have coilovers and strut bars and lower braces on my w207. The weak spot is the roof since all USA w207 cars have a panoramic roof. I wished it was all metal to be honest. Light weight and stronger.

Absolutely correct. In the BMW E92s there is a kickback button where you stomp the gas and it auto downchanges to the lowest possible gear. This E550 has it as well as the AMGs
