True, like what do you expect my guy. And that’s why I’m going with gentle 6psi of boost, just to keep things reliable and safe :) plus it’s a possible daily so I’m not trying to spend a ton on petrol.

This is why I prefer it for people to keep cars like this on stock HP and without that much mods and tunes. I'd just lower the car, get sportier wheels, get better seats, do a muffler delete, and get a decent rear wing. Wouldn't care if it can't outrun a Lambo or a GT-R as long as its fun.

Dreji TheRacer do you know what double clutching is? Because the way you put it in that context makes me think you don’t. Double clutching isn’t any different than granny shifting. In fact, double clutching takes longer. Flat foot shifting is the fastest way for most people.

I owned about 6 DSM in my life and currently own a 1G Talon Awd TSI, yes these are older cars and parts tend to break but in the end the car is only as reliable as the owner, my first DSM was a stock non hacked 1g GST with 300,000 miles on it and it ran great, i didn't dog on it and kept up with regular routine maintenance, oil, coolant, plugs . dont rag on it 24/7 and they work good.

I'm on my 4th one and I gotta say you are 100% right on the previous owner bit. NONE of them did ANY maintenance. They all want to skip right to mods then wonder why nothing works. I've had my current 2g for a few years now and get an insane amount of compliments on how clean I keep her and how much I maintain it. Daily driven, 185k miles, just made a 5000 Mile road trip no problems at all. Not bad for 20 years old. These cars require a lot of attention, if you're in the market for one better expect to be working on it every weekend!

About your Air bag cover - Bad news bro, but to do a proper delete, you are going to have to take the entire dash out and go after it with power tools. After you remove it, you will need a grinder with a cut-off wheel and when you cut into the cover, dont try to cut it from the edge, leave plenty of edge and just cut out 80% of the cover from the center. This space you made is only so you can see when you're doing when you actually start to cut the JB weld out. You cannot leave the dash in the car, you have to take it out. the reason for this will be apparent in the next step. Next you will need a drimmel and you are going get a much smaller cut off wheel and screw it in to the tool. The drimmel can operate at much lower RPM and make much more precise cuts. From there, you are going to start cutting the edges loose with this tool. go slow, and be sure that you cut it horizontally first. after you make all your hoizontal cuts from the bottom side, you can start to cut it from the top and make all your vertical cuts. After that, the piece should come out without much issue.

I’ve been working on maintenance for my eclipse. Just had to have the transmission rebuilt completely and just had the fuel pump replaced and jerry rigged the wiring to the ignition. Next is making 100% sure the motor is solid, radiator replaced, need a new maf sensor(not from dealer) and suspension work, which she will be switching to coilovers and dropping her about 1-1 1/2. After all that is done. Since mine is the spyder gs. Convertible top replacement, front bumper, paint and just making sure everything is good then the building of power begins. A long list but I think she will be well worth it once I’m done #savetheeclipse 💪🙌

@@Th3MoistGoat see I partially agree with what you said about the 2019 Eclipse because that's just bullshit they put on the name since it's not even a coupe sports car anymore.. but as far as the things you say about the 3rd gen is something I heavily disagree with and here's why.. Ok, so out of all the generations of Eclipse, the 1st gen is actually the slowest of all eclipses in top trim level if we are talking stock, and yes the 3rd gen doesn't have the 4G63 Turbo or AWD from factory which is already clear.. But just because of this stigma that it doesn't have those things, people seem to just write them off as bad cars when in reality, stock they are pretty on par with the Second gens are without such things are actually about 100 pounds lighter from 2000-2002 GT models (if you don't believe me, look at both of their curb weights) compared to the GSX which seems light, but it's actually heavier weighing in at 3100+ pounds and the 3rd gen Eclipse despite being softer, was actually praised for it's handling which is also true for modified guys since there are a couple whom autocross with them, and they are usually in the top spots in rankings which are higher than some cars that were made for such a thing, that get beat.. Along with this, people seem to not understand that yes, it doesn't have a *_4G63_* but in our GS/RS models, we have the 2.4L *_4G64_* which is commonly used in high power Evo 8 engines to create a 2.3L stroker motor.. so pretty much, all you need to do is swap in a head from an Evo 8 or Kia GJ4S head onto our blocks and it instantly becomes a stroker motor, which essentially is the same way you can do it to a 4G Eclipse, but they use Evo 9 heads and such because the 4G69 they came with has Mivec, so it'd only be smart to use the same thing.. Also, one thing to note is that, even with the disadvantage, the GT/GTS cars have a very good amount of versatility to them which means, we can swap out the 3.0L 6G72 for a 3.5L Forged from factory 6G74 which is essentially the same engine with a larger displacement and bolts right up as a bolt in swap which is easily capable of 600+hp stock.. Same with the 6G75 which does take a lil more work to fit in but also will do and it doesn't matter if it's Mivec or Non Mivec cuz it's swappable either way and is also capable of 500+HP stock internals.. To go with this, the 3000GT blocks are also the exact same blocks as the ones that come on the 3G as far as 6G72 and 6G74 so whatever they use for internals and internals *_only,_* can be put into a 3G just the same.. Thus creating more of a option oriented build than just being stuck with 4G63/4 or nothing.. And funny thing is, our top 5 fastest Eclipses consists of guys with 6G74/6G75's and only one Evo 8 swapped 3G in flat 11's, and about two of them are AWD swapped as an added bonus.. There's even a guy as we speak who is building an overbored 3.9L Mivec 6266 Turbo AWD swapped 3G right now and it's on the verge of being finished and Hopefully well see what he has to offer too.. plus the AWD swap is much easier on 4G64 guys cuz they share parts directly with the Evo/GSX so they use stuff from those to make those AWD much easier to boot.. Edit: Oh and I almost forgot, our 5 speed manuals have been proven to take 800+ crank and they are solid as hell! The autos suck so don't get one, but all you need is a upgraded clutch and you be good! :) Now yes, on a surface level, they do suck, not much aftermarket, some are ricers, and some are complete idiots/assholes in the 3G land.. But when you actually dig deeper, they are very underrated and underappreciated cars when you truly look at it with an open mind..

For all what the eclipse is but even if its old it still is a reliable car. I wanted to buy an eclipse but that dream got lost because i had not quite enough money together even tough i made New friends i also had contact with this dude he told me an eclipse 2g never has around 200 - 220 HP with ac installed after that i was going to all those dsm Forums and red about ac and if there is any Power difference. People on Forums said there is like a 1 or 2 HP difference so thats it. Not really a big difference id say. That dude wanted to sell me a eclipse without ac and said eclipses have no Power with installed ac 🤦🏻‍♂️

I hate putting in a transmission in this car, like lining up the splines and prying the engine slightly forward to allow it to light up, and having to do any clutch pedal adjustments. The engine is solid.. it just seems to be everything around it haha

I've loved the DSM's look ever since I first saw it, 19 right now, and it's still my dream car. I just don't know jack about car maintenance and care. Still I hope to own one of these someday, even if it is worn down after 20 years of release. Modding it isn't really my interest, so much as having and driving one.

gr8 tip on the door handles is in addition to what U said about open em n then pull door open from side...also before that when UR actually unlock the car rec people push the key up before turning to unlock...Also never had chg door handles either on any of my 3 DSMs.

I've had my 99 GS maybe 11 years now, never broken a door handle. But man, the drip rail moldings along the top edge of the door windows, now those are bad! Mine look like crap already, showing more chrome than black now! That's one thing I hate on my Eclipse.

Bullshit. 3rd owner of a 2009 GS convertible and haven't had any issues with mine in over a year, just basics like break pads and rotors. Convertible top still works fine, just needs some lube to prevent it from sticking, but that's normal in New England.

Got my second eclipse last week. First was a 2003 4 cyl GS. This one is a 2008 gtp 3.8l v6. So happy so much fun. Doing some little upgrades again. But I don't want to be a mechanic just play around a bit. Maybe a turbo since I like the sound.

I’ve been doing some research on these, I’m a Honda/Toyota Guy. But I’ve been looking into these because they are quick and super cheap. I’ve heard the argument about it being the owners that cause them to be unreliable. But the legitimate problem I run into is that you could argue the same about Honda or Yota and they still run like hell. Like a K series Civic. My sister literally should’ve destroyed that car but when it was handed down to me it worked well. I really love the look of these cars and I hear good things about them when they are running. But idk I hear a lot of excuses as well. So what’s the true consensus here?

I recently bought a 3g eclipse gs with a gt throttle body, injen intake and 2.5inch custom catback. Superlight rtx rims and a custom cluster and gauges to round it out. Its no turbo but it is definately a fun drive. Handling is impressive. Very underestimated car. Would love to own a 2g someday. Not quite as much muscle as my 97' 3000gt but much better daily driveability.
@logangriffith9390

I agree with the eclipse owners. I’m a senior in HS and I inherited a 3g eclipse from my grandparents (I’d like to get a 2g when I’m out of college) and just because of the fact that I own an eclipse as a daily driver, people assume that I don’t take care of my car or it’s poorly modified. Mine’s bone stock! They’re great cars, but unfortunately the drivers and owners have given them a bad reputation.

People don't realiase that these cars are over 20 years old. Cars are not made to last that long so things will begin to break. My 1g is gonna be 29 years old very soon. A multitude of other cars can only dream of being around that long.
