Although I absolutely love my new truck, there are some things about it that could've been done better. Here are 5 things I hate about my truck.
For a flexible rear Prado setup (Use code "northoz" for 10% off): cartrimhome.co...
Here is a list of the equipment I use:
- Rhino Rack System: t.cfjump.com/8...
- MyCoolMan Fridge (I use a 53L but recommend this): t.cfjump.com/8...
- Kaon Rear Shelf: t.cfjump.com/8...
- Kaon Drop-down Table: t.cfjump.com/8...
- Power Distribution (I don't like mine, try this): t.cfjump.com/8...
- Dometic Inverter: t.cfjump.com/8...
- Exterior Camping Lights (these look very similar to mine): t.cfjump.com/8...
- Ram mount (this is similar to mine but for a phone/tablet): t.cfjump.com/8...
- Wireless CarPlay Module: onecarstereo.c...
- GME 5W Handheld (I use a 2W, but a 5W is preferable): t.cfjump.com/8...
- Shower Awning/Change room (For an extra $100, get this): t.cfjump.com/8...
- 25A Redarc DCDC Charger: t.cfjump.com/8...
- MaxTrax Flush Mounts: t.cfjump.com/8...
- MaxTrax Boards: t.cfjump.com/8...
- Fridge Slide (I should've bought these): t.cfjump.com/8...

Hey mate Only time my rogue leaks water in that exact spot is when i blast the hose in that corner , dealer warned me , too much water to go down the track into the drain at once , so i consiously hose lightly in the corners and no issues :) . Also you have roof rack tracks on your rolller lid rated to 90kg if you dont want to drill, just fitted quick lock removable rhino bars on the weekend , mint for carrying a swag :) . No one at the dealer new about in until i looked into the extra booklet in the owner manual books.

Interesting. Mine leaks with rain but in the tropics, it rains hard. I’ll get Toyota to check it when I do the first service if yours is more water tight. I thought about a tray rack but how easy is it to remove the cross rails? If it takes longer than 5 minutes, I’m not interested haha. I like to keep it simple and save as much time as possible when switching between packing for camping and using the tray for projects

Great Videos. I just picked mine up here in the Philippines yesterday. great truck. but small on the inside. Almost bought a new Triton but didnt feel like being put on a wait list to have one delivered to my local dealer. This new Hilux is very nice. I hope when they upgrade it next year it will grow in size in every dimension. including width and length

@NorthOz indeed. But it's quite fun to drive. The wider track definitely helps in that department. Like you, I sold my 2019 fortuner and just put down a chunk. This will probably be my last truck for a while. Or at least until I see what the 2025 will look like. And iT is massive width wise. Funding the middle of the lane is a bit of a fun task 😆.

@NorthOz I also found that tackling curves is light work for this truck. I can take a curve at a higher speed than with my fortuner. One thing I don't like is the interface with the stereo. I used to be able to plug my ipod in and it would interface very good in the fortuner. Not with this new head unit. I have to use Bluetooth in this vehicle. Which is strange because all of my toyotas had a real simple plug in interface. It's like they took a step back. Or foreword

The older Hilux's were so much better with their packaging and cargo. I see these new ones in Mexico all the time and aside from the diesel powertrain and manual transmission there's not much else that would make me pick it over a newer Tacoma. I owned a 94' US version of the Hilux, known here in the states as a "Pickup" and it baffles me that these trucks are the successor to those older yet better-engineered utes.

A lot of people hold similar views over here. But the price of clean second hand hiluxes that haven’t been thrashed are close to the cost of a new hilux. Time will tell how reliable these new hiluxes are but this model has been out for a good 7 or so years and no issues with reliability yet

Good question mate. After comparing all of the vehicles available, the hilux still won me over. The reliability, resale and service was the pick for me. Jeeps have terrible resale, fords are having teething issues with their new gen vehicles (understandable), rams are too expensive and don’t fit on tracks, Isuzu’s are tough but ugly. Ultimately, resale is a big factor but I love the service up here. Toyota knock the others out of the park up here 👍

Many other issues. Simple things like: hard plastic cup holders that rattles, useless radio and nav dates back to 2012. Heavy stearing. Outo box that doesnt lock up and torque converter that constantly steal energy. Also doesnt know which gear to pick, espasially acellerating after speed bump. Locking up in low gear going downhill and being stuck there forever. Battle to get low range to engage, constantly beeping for not being able to. Disapointed in my purchace, consule myself in believing it is reliable and it looks beautiful,. Defnitly better looking than new ranger, what a cosmetic disaster!

I’ll admit, it isn’t for everyone and if someone is after a hard core off-roader, maybe they should look into a 70 series. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase. Yes there are issues with build quality of the dash but ultimately it is a modified sr5 on the same chassis that has been used for a very long time. I bought mine because it just works. No bells and whistles and for me that was a big motivator. If people were after a luxury 4x4, then they should look elsewhere. I’m sorry you don’t like your truck. It’s all a learning experience and you now know what to look for in a vehicle. Best of luck with your vehicle hunt

So what I don't like about that Bakkie is also the mat at the back because I put heavy and dirty stuff, cements bricks, river sand, literally anything that can fit. @@NorthOz I'll try to clarify. The 'cheap & nasty plastic bulging' I refer to looks like an afterthought, the 'pumped out guards' are a cheap way of modifying the body to suit the new great wider track, sort of like the dodgy fragile plastic rear bumper you mention. The vehicle came with only 2 tiedown points '2 little loops that sit toward the rear of the tray', you installed others to toward the back of the tray 'flush with the floor', nice. There needs to be tiedown points toward the front of the tub on each side of the tray, do you think?

I can also store aircompressor and things behind back seat, yes.. I admit HILUX resale value and proven old technology is still good if we thinking decades of future..

Very true, here in the uk it is a bugbear of mine, the same can be said for the prado 150 and 200 models, due to our weather they become rot boxes after a few years

Hilux comes standard with a 4 tie down points or anchor points. Perhaps your other 2 tie down points are hidden behind the canister for your bed cover. Plus if I am not mistaken, the back bumper lower section, where the number plate is, that is where you foot on to climb into the back of the truck. Not the sides.

They removed the cab side 2 tie downs for the rogue. Yes, you can step on the rear (it’s not very solid) but you can step where I showed on camera

@@NorthOz I never knew that Toyota Australia had reduced the tie down points to 2 units only. Anyway regarding the small profile tyres in relation to the larger wheel arch now, perhaps it is a cheaper way of making vehicles this way. I am in the battery business and I noticed that manufacturers are fitting much smaller sized batteries on the production floor into new cars. During battery replacement and for the battery to have a valid warranty, we have to install a larger sized battery compared to what was fitted on the production floor.

So how do you get up when taildoor is down , they have changed the end of the bumper so you cannot step on it now, I have one it’s a pain in the proverbial

@@robward7662 Once the taildoor is door, going up is rather undignified. Back up and lift oneself until seated on the taildoor. Then turn around until both feet on the taildoor and slowly get up. I think the safer way for one to get into the tub, is to climb into the tub first by stepping in the center of the lowered section of the bumper. Once safely inside the tub, then open the taildoor and let it fall. With the hydraulic damper or tailgate assist, the taildoor will slowly come down.

@@jeffreyread2055 try doing that with a load of stuff that comes out over the taildoor, or even a couple of bikes, the corner of the bumper used to be a handy step, Toyota really didn’t think about this one, having said that it is a big step up from my old sr5 and tows much better with the wide axle and rear bar.

For the roof rail problem it just popped in my head that I saw an advert for carrying bikes on the back of trucks or suvs and they used these new suction cups. They have been tested throughly and they seem to be a very good alternative instead of having to do something that cannot be reversed such drilling into the body so you might want to have a look at those.
