In the setup you choose if you want only the driver door to open (its a safety option) or all doors to open when approaching the vehicle. The 360 camera is an option which must be ordered. The new software is great, but one needs to choose user everytime just like most EVs, but the old one had issues. Some of your complaints is then down to not getting to know your car.
@fabianfeilcke72204 ай бұрын
You bought the trim without 360 deg camera, then complain about it missing? Also, you can set up which door open when you unlock he driver door. Try reading the manual. The piano black surfaces are annoying, yes but this a design choice that is pretty obvious before you buy it. If you don't like that, get a different car. The touch elements on the steering are horrible agreed, they swichtched back to physical in the face-lift.

Have this car - Pro S AWD, so i got the new infotainment system which is great. Love this car. I actually prefer the two button window switch with toggle. I can't count the number of times i accidentally rolled down the rear windows on the four button configuration. That was more annoying than the toggle. Drove the Model Y first. Hated the Model Y. Loved the Ioniq 5. The Blazer was just okay. Wanted the tax break (7500 federal plus 5000 state). Every car has minor annoyances, including this one. But this one has more features I love than the others and fewer missing features and annoyance. I advise everyone to do what we did... drive them all and choose. I'll bet a fair share of you will choose the ID4 Pro S with the new infotainment system.

Something notable about a lot of german cars and especially VW is that they sell you everything as a single piece upgrades. Other manufacturers offer you different packets, like a "sports" packet or dynamic, plus, etc. So while I absolutely agree with your views and love the insight, I also can't help but notice that when I go ro the "configuration" page of the ID.4, a few features, like the 360° cam, are available as optional upgrades. With others you'd get them in the "plus" package above the base configuration, but with VW (and as said many other german brands), the higher packages seem to mostly enhance battery capacity and the drive train, but glass roofs, other interior coatings, more cameras, remote locking and so on are all things that are sold separately. I'm not sure how I should feel about it, I like that it's not a subscription or that you have to pay for 10 features in a package if you only want / need 2, but it creates a space where there's so many configuration options, buying used cars might be more difficult than it needs to be and buying new is really depending on if your dealership even gives you those options or simply sells you one of their "premade packages". Ofc this doesn't change that missing those features at such a price point (and likely no chance to upgrade them afterwards) is infuriating. Add the (imo) abysmal looks of their weird middle console screen and the increased amount of touch controls over reliable mechanical parts and my distain for a lot EVs grows, not because I hate EVs, but because they're the epitome of "make things worse by making them 'better'" and "modern for the sake of being modern". Add subscriptions for all kinds of stuff, starting at their software or even hardeare features (like seat heating in BMW) and then subscription costs for some charger companies and so on and it becomes a pure money sink in my case, even if gas was 3x as much. I'd love to have an EV outside of driving them occasionally from others, but I'd have to drive it for 15+ years almost everdays to currently offset any of the additional costs that come from sales price and all the after market charges they add. Now add having to buy the 360° cam in configuration and paying ~1000 or more for it again, and it takes me yet another half a year to realistically offset that cost. In the end, okay cars, great driving experience, good service, supreme quality, but bad prices, sh** user design and terrible design choices.

I have a '23 AWD Pro S and I totally agree with most of your HATE''s. My #1 is that selecting the profile each and every time. VW use the key fob as YOUR profile as you approach the car like other manufacturers do. My #2 is not being able to lock rom the app, very annoying. They should've had an option to lock itself as you walk away. My #3 are the non-backlit sliders. One of the dumbest decisions VW. I can deal with the piano black. It's definitely not liked but it isn't a functional thing. Otherwise it's a good car. No issues. But they haven't had a software update, at least for my model, since I've owned it for 2yrs.

I love my 2018 VW Alltrack! So when looking for an EV, of course, I took an ID.4 for a test drive. All the gloss black was grimy with other people's hand smears was not a good first impression. Then I drove it. HATED IT! The brakes, the jolty acceleration. I couldn't turn around fast enough to return it. Your video reconfirms my opinion. I would love my wagon electrified. A girl can dream. Today we are testing a Mitsubishi PHEV Outlander.

Id4 has so many small mistakes that makes me almost angry when I drive it. I don’t understand how it’s even possible to get such stupid decisions through to production without someone just saying NO! I mean VW built cars forever by now. Designer: “My idea is that we should put piano black on every surface that you touch. Anyone have an opinion or is it a go?” 675000 VW employees: “sounds great! Piano black is the best ever material for car interiors. Everyone loves it!” Any customer after five minutes in the car: “I HAAAAATE PIANO BLACK” Touch controls that SUCK, OK for driver profile EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME I DRIVE, Auto-off that cannot be disabled, no stand-still climate more than 30 minutes, those window buttons, no frunk, no battery pre-heating, the mapping of +1/+10 on the cruise control buttons and so on. How the hell could that get through? Such a nice car with such annoying details.
@JR-jz1rd3 ай бұрын
What are your other gripes? I’m on the fence….but reviews are mostly positive on KZbin and universally horrible on Reddit. \
@nacona93992 ай бұрын
+1/+10 is because its a german car with km/h base configuration. Unfortunately they did not consider that US market drives with mph and there the +10 is too much for a single step. They should have done +5 instead for US cars(and maybe for europe as well) but considering the software issues this was the last thing they would address. Well the piano black must be quite cheap to produce and and therefore the number 1 material for the designers... how ever in Germany everybody is complaining about this for years as well. At least VW CEO H.Diess was kicked out for his interrioir decisions in the ID line up, but it is now a long way to get a better quality. Also piano black seams to work well with the touch sensitive buttons - so as long you have one of each you keep both.

I’m not saying I hate gloss black. I’m saying I hate how they put it only on surfaces you touch and nowhere else. It’s not a smart material choice for things like that. If they had it as an accent piece as just that, and accent piece, then I’d be all for it.

@Call-me-JamesАй бұрын
Almost all the problems you describe have been fixed starting with the 2023 models It is unfortunate that you are stuck with the older model ! Maybe there is some way to trade it for a newer model? I have a 2023 version with newer software, and I haven't seen any real problems The 2024 model has a completely new software design, and it is getting good reviews. My infotainment system doesn't require a login. And after many months, my gloss black trim doesn't have any scratches. I clean it with a damp cloth and it looks beautiful. Also, one important thing the VW has that Tesla lacks is the ability to connect to Google's software. Tesla's navigation software isn't as good as Google's. Also, I have never had any issues with ulocking doors. You can unlock all the doors with the key fob. The one criticism that I think is actually valid is that there are only 2 window switches. But it is *very* minor problem. Also, why would you want to change drive mode when you aren't intending to drive? And I don't see any reason why you need to turn the steering wheel when you aren't going to drive. You don't have to "put the car fully into gear" to turn the steering wheel. You just have to put your feet on the brake pedal, which is a reasonable thing to do. Also, my 2023 ID4 doesn't have touch-sensitive buttons like you have on your car. And my 2023 ID4 has never had any problems with car-play cutting out.

Right, the ID.4 2024 is a great car, I agree that the glossy look especially of the touch areas is a bad choice, but I can live with that. I personally like the touch buttons, but that is another story. Speaking of Tesla Model Y, this car was on my go to buy list, but I finally decided to get the ID.4. Both a great cars, Tesla is more like coming from a tech company, ID.4 more like from a car company. Both design choices have pros and cons in my opinion. And I liked test driving both cars.
