You got that car total wrong. Maybach was not profitable as own brand. Other Problem is that the Maybach was - because of the low numbers - based always on the older platform of the S-Class. So you got the nicer but technically older car. To avoid this they made Maybach a Luxury line in their S-Class Portfolio. Normal Benz, Sporty AMG and Luxurios Maybach. To make the chassis longer is enough development afford for that amount of car. Still you get RollsRoyce or Bentley Luxury for 100K ++ less and its from now on always based on the latest model. The Pullmann long version is the best in its class. So I think how they lined it up was a good thing.

328fuck cars are not all about maximum power numbers, especially cars that aren't sports cars. no v8 will match the smoothness and that effortless low end pull of a v12 that make them so much more nice to drive around town.

328fuck I updated my comment, go back up and read it. V12's have torque for days, perfect for heavy sedans. the S65 has 738 lb-ft @ 2300 rpm. yea...that's nothing, right?

Ben Dover he is not correct on the packages. the car he drove did have the executive package. the package that he was talking about the converts 3 seats to 2 is the rear executive package PLUS. he has never been correct on Mercedes product.

The only point I agree with, is the fact that this car need more customisation options. For other part, there is actually good point on them. 1 : You answer yourself here : 4:30 does it need to be that different after all ? Maybe the S Class interior is just already up to task, S Class are luxury car after all ! 2 and 4 : The car shine in his luxury feature, comfort and ability for a rich dude to have his chauffeur driving him around in a pleasant experience, but I think that Mercedes tried to avoid making the car being too different, this is probably more for those who don't want to bother with tons of people always asking question about the car or who stare at it. Here the car, for those who are not into car (and even there some like sport car and don't care about luxury ones) this is just "another Mercedes" and chances are, not a lot of people will actually understand what V12 represent and Maybach will just sound like a simple model name rather than a luxury car, I guess this is the reason why. And for 3 and 5 this is the same point, more customisation would be great, but this is for people who are likely to spend more time in their helicopter/yacht than in this car anyway, and most won't probably care IMO.

Why keep mentioning the lack of V12 badges on the S class? You can order a Mercedes S600 V12 and it would have the V12 badges. As for the lack of the extra 8 inches of legroom in the back, you get that also in the S600 if you order the S600 L (Long) version.

good points parker. we'll have to see what Merc has in store for the Maybach franchise. i agree that Merc is performance oriented and definitely geared toward "affordable" luxury, whereas Maybach in more in the Bentley and RR echelon. it seems like they just needed to get a working model out the door after restarting the franchise, so it's probably too early to say either way. i do think dropping the Merc name is the best bet; it sullies the prestige of the Maybach. it'd be the same as BMW stamping their name on RR. not smart.

They've already tried differentiating it and giving it loads of options to compete with Rolls but it failed. So now they're just trying to sell more S Class's by sticking the Maybach name on some of them.

#1 hated thing: they lose half their value if not more as soon as you buy it lol. I bet rich people love that. Rolls Royce and Bentley hold their values pretty well which is the best selling point

The Mercedes-Maybach S550 is available in the U.S. market, and strangely enough, it is nearly as quick to 60 MPH as the 600 model of the same car. I would honestly prefer the Bentley Flying Spur over both versions of the Maybach or just save some $$$ and stick with a normal S-class.

Mercedes cannot and will not compete with a rolls Royce phantom, rolls has decades of experience in the luxury automotive industry and Mercedes is more general as it is. I would really like to see you drive a rolls and see how you react because I can tell you that the phantom is way more exclusive than the Mercedes
