Y'all ain't wrong, I grew up on the Florida Georgia line in the late 70's early 80's, the similarities between the hood and the wood aren't far off. Save the housing and dirt/paved roads, we all do the same damned things, drink/smoke a little, eat, music, dance, stare at beautiful bodies.

Up until I was about 20 I hadn't spent much time with white adults other than teachers. I never really conversed with white people in general even though I went to a 50-50 school. Anyway, based on the sitcoms and commercials I used to watch growing up in the 80's I thought the white American diet consisted of spaghetti, meatloaf, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, and on Thanksgiving turkey. When I got my job at about 20 I had the chance to work with white adults from 25-60. When those white people start talking about collard greens, black eye peas, corn, water melon, and chicken etc I was just floored. I then learned that most white people do use a rag in the shower. In the commercials they never used them. Long story short, I understood how ignorant I was of white people, what the went through, and what they believe. I learned lessons I still carry with me to this day.

@@Anidominus I had about the same experience but opposite. Was born and raised in a small town in Northern WI, never talked to a black person until I joined the military at 19 years old. I had thought black folks where mad, hated me, all gangsters and all the other stereotypes. Then I realized they are just like me, not much separated me from "them" The only thing that separated us was TV and the media. I grew up with SOME of the same struggles, ate the same foods, and wanted the same things out of life. We can all benefit from friends of other races and cultures. To me that is what I love about our country even though now that seems to becoming an issue again.

This is why I always say, "you shouldn't hate someone for a view you disagree on, love them for what you share." OK I kinda lied I don't always say that but I feel it and thats what matters, I find the people who get along best with everyone (including myself) find what they share with others and use that to bridge the gap, ive had friends who differed from me in so many ways but I found common ground with them almost immediately and I used that to make a new friend, it also helps that I can adjust my personality depending on the room so I can make sure I don't make people uncomfortable, not very drastically but I can make it so I dont ruin the vibe of a room, but yea I think everyone would get along more if we just found that common ground and tried to ignore how we differed at the end of the day.

I'm from Texas and as White as fresh snow in the northern peninsula of Michigan. I went home with my buddy Smoke from bootcamp when I was in Chicago. He didn't tell me he lived in the Cabrini-Greens (and I didn't even know what that was at the time.) As we were walking up the stairs in the projects, Smoke turned around and said, "You know how you feel right now...we feel like that all the time." I never ate so good in my life - fatback and collards. I met the neighbors and the guys who worked the corner of the block. I got more education in one weekend than I did in four years of high school...I'd eat glass for those people.

That was most excellent, great laughs. Being a white boy from the hood with black step siblings... you're actually right about everything you said. Loosing a racist father at 11 to cancer in a way turned out to be a blessing for me. I got to experience what love and respect for your fellow man should mean. I'm 54 now and by age 12/13 I figured out racism is taught, plain and simple. When you're in the trenches and bullets are flying, politics be damned. United we stand, devided we fall. God bless.

As some white guy who grew up as a minority in a town full of Hicks and Mexicans (my homies back home), this was pretty spot on. A lot of the Mexican dudes lived in the towns hoods and we all got along rather well. Be chill, have fun, pass a j, that’s something worth living to do. We also had a lot of wannabe gang bangers but, I didn’t show fear or lack of respect at the same time, level playing field and a respectable one at that. You aren’t above or below me homie, let’s crack a cold one and chill. I don’t know if that is really the same in other places but, being confident without being a prick takes you far, you are harder to fuck over and you aren’t putting others down, breeds a mutual respect, especially when you get the chance to pass a j around and make friends.

Country Folks and Hood Folks ARE identical in almost every way except melanin content. • Both have a unique drawl, or dialect. • Both wish they had more money than they do. • Both like cars, guns and women. • Both love gettin' high and gettin' drunk. • Both shop at WalMart. • Both have weird foods that are not liked by "them rich folks" • Both work hard at their hustle, whatever that may be. • Both have probably not left their town or state. • Neither of them want anyone else to tell them how to live. It's time we start coming together and comparing our similarities as Americans. Instead of being divided by those that don't give AF about us, but would rather see us fight each other.

I remember seeing a movie called 'Reefer Madness'. it's about the funniest movie I ever saw. I couldn't stop laughing. My father was all up in arms because it apparently it wasn't supposed to be a comedy. The movie had actors acting hyper and psychotic. I was like, "Dad have you ever tried to get people eho've been smoking become violent? You can't. It's all peace and love."

BTW, I just subscribed! I have grown up in South Carolina around the river. Whites and blacks got along much better when I was growing up than we do now. We can probably thank the media for that. We people find ways to get along....media and politicians find ways to tear us apart.

Great video as always, a lot of people don't realize that a lot of modern "urban" culture has southern roots. The food in particular, a lot of food black people like started being served after the Civil War because it was what poor southern people (of every color) ate.

I started laughing when you brought up the pig's feet thing every gas station in Florida sells pigs feet even corporate ones like mobile and circle k pigs feet is not a hood thing it's a down South thing. I went to the grocery store one time and seen a big ass cow tongue also stomach lining and chicken feet in the meat section 😂 I didn't go to the hood to find out what it was I asked my grandma she told me everything about what meals you make at it each of those and it's cuz she was raised on a farm.

@@BobPapadopoulos yeah no shit so are chicken gizzards but the Indian dudes over at the gas station Cooks them up of course he deep fries everything along with bullfrog legs and catfish BUT the catfish pieces that he fries up they are from sail cats which are actually saltwater catfish they just are a hundred times less gamey tasting them saltwater catfish so they taste almost the same as fresh water farm-raised catfish he also fries up mullet cuz people cast net hundreds of pounds of those within one throw of a 20 ft cast net then they sell them to the stores all around here all of it is southern food I guess you didn't know that a lot of southern food you hunt for it and you catch it yourself or small stores or gas stations have it I can drive 2 miles down the road and go and pick up Gator meat too...

@@BobPapadopoulos and obviously but I didn't know that pigs feet were called trotters... Trotters and pettitoes are other names for pig's feet. Different communities around the world eat this visually striking cut of meat in different ways. Don't forget you always use the chicken or turkey neck to make broth with to make the gravy to go on the mashed potatoes also with some blood from the heart and the feet in there too I don't know about you but it's nasty as hell when you bite into some potatoes and you feel a crunch and it's a damn turkey claw. LMFAO

It ain't about color or urban vs country. Poor is poor and real people is real people. It's the upper class bastards that keep us apart, other than that, we are all the same
@johnh8546
@johnh8546 3 жыл бұрын
See that is still inherently devisive. It isn't the upper class. Hell I was born dirt poor and now I make 6 figures. I am upper class but I am not your enemy. The political class is the issue. Those that profit off of division. That is a very small group. Do you really think the media and politicians want us to work together. You can't sell your diversity training or what not if we all pretty much get along.
