The plaid seats are awesome! I love mine. You're definitely right though, people either hate it or love it, there's really no middle ground. I don't give a shit when people hate on mine cause it's my car and I'm the one that has to look at them at the end of the day. Also, you don't have the heated seat option? You don't need leather to get it, mine are heated.

the red plaid seat is a throw back to the original gti also had plaid seats. short fun fact and extra reinforcement to it being an awesome feature! video idea: slap a coupe gopros (video cameras) on the car at nice angles and go to on a short cruise. with some glamor shots and an little explanation of how you started on KZbin.

Those VW plaid seats are my entire childhood. Reminds me of being in my dad's Cabrios/Rabbits in the 80s. If I get another GTI down the line, it'll have the plaid seats. It's pretty much my only exception to the leather I'm used to having. In a GTI, it's gotta be the plaid cloth. If it doesn't have the cloth, I'm not buying it.

My sentiments exactly, I've had mine since 2006, a MK-V. I just had it tuned and also put a new air induction system in it, a real sleeper. 265 hp, 320 ft lbs of torque, the acceleration is incredible, subtle but quick! I replaced the old airbox, because it broke after a couple removals, for the price of replacement, I got a better system that won't break!

My GTI came with leather seats, however it was not factory. If they ever wear out I hope there is plaid underneath lol. I have a feeling that will be the case, the place I bought my car was a fritzy infinity dealer. I'm almost certain they put the leather seats in just to help sell it.

The plaid has always been my favorite part of any GTI. Another sweet thing about your car is you only have to jack it up once on each side to change all 4 wheels.

Those seats are trade marks seats... They were in the rabbit as well as mk2 gti I honestly don't like them in the newer generation vw's but respect them for wat they are

I have an mk6 gti with the cloth seats and I prefer the plaid too! also, the leather always starts to look bad and wear after a couple years, whereas the cloth stays in shape well

The car scene im in though has an exhaust a girl i know a has a straight piped rx8. So get into my car it only has an intake on it so its not very loud so im between those two leaning more towards an exhaust but would love to see a video of what u think.

Do you see a lot of the MKVII versions in your city? I live near Dallas and am surprised that everyone with a GTI has the MKVI or even MKV models. I've seen only 5 or 6 of the MKVII (which is the one I'm driving now). Are GTIs generally more reliable on older models or do people simply not want to give them up partly because they sank so much money into modding them? I would say half of the GTIs I've seen have some noticeable mods on them. Mine is still all factory equipment. (Will wait two years, I don't want to give VW a reason to cancel my warranty!) About the seats: I'm still upset that VW's options packages are so rigid. It was impossible for me to get the car the way I wanted: a white GTI with sunroof, auto a/c, 6-speed manual, 4 doors and PLAID seats. Every dealer I went to had it with leather seats and only one had the auto a/c. Mine has a silver body, leather with a manual a/c. I also am 5'8" so the side bolsters, which remind me of Recaros, make it hard to get out. I have to swing my legs over the side and use the grab handle and the rear pillar to pull myself out. I thought I bought a VW, not a Lamborghini! LOL. I'm already used to it. Also the generous ceiling clearance means I don't have to worry about hitting my forehead on the door sill. The only thing I hate about driving it is, oddly, OTHER GTI drivers see me as a target and pull up in front of me and try to bully me into a drag race! Even when I drove the car home from the dealer for the first time, another GTI did that! Is that common among GTI owners?

Awesome videos! I have a 2015 Jetta GLI that I love (yet some of the things you 'hate' about your GTI applies to mine as well). Just curious if you or any other VW owners of current models received information in the mail about an emission test program VW is offering (IUVT - In Use Vehicle Testing)? In a nutshell, VW wants to take & ship my GLI for about 5-7 weeks to run multiple test at a lab in California. In return, they offer a stipend, mechanical repairs (if needed) and a loaner car...if I decide to do this I requested a GTI. They will also take care of any mechanical repairs and return my car detailed with a full tank. I would love feedback from anyone who has participated in this program. Thanks!

My question is, Are these cars reliable, how much will it cost to run? have in mind i currently own a 2004 dodge neon sxt. not the most exiting car ever... hence why i want a newer one. I drive a 2010 Audi A3. Not quite the same car but same platform and powertrain with the 2.0TSI. I am the second owner, currently at 98k with no problems yet. Anything produced by toyota will likely be more reliable with equal maintenance but like many have said before it all comes down to care. If you dont mind spending a little extra time caring for your vehicle (early oil changes, etc.) the GTI can be a great vehicle. Now you will likely be looking at an earlier FSI vehicle with your budget. Be a smart shopper and become familiar with the vehicles common issues (cam followers, etc.) and be sure to have the car inspected pre purchase by someone who knows their GTI's. Look for maintenance records. Also with higher mileage vehicles, have a small budget set aside for repairs should the need arise. Given all of this, I think the fun you'll get out of a GTI puts it miles ahead of a Scion in terms of enjoyment. Hope that helps a bit

8weelo8 thanks for your input. I have test driven both already. a 08 tC al, that honestly for me it lacks power, the steering is pretty dead, the gear throw are super long. I test drove a 09 GTI with only 78k miles on it, really nice spec. It was way sharper and faster than the tC. although that GTI was priced at 10k. I was told that VW tend to breakdown often and they are quite pricey to maintain. On Friday I'm looking at a 04 350z with only 77k miles, fully stock with all the service records, clean title, one owner. the price being asked is 11k but I feel i can get more out of it.
