The problem with magic is that they're way too stingy with MP. Spells cost too much compared to the amount of damage they do, and for most of the game, you have very few MP recovery items available to you. Not to mention that MP consumables may only give you 1 move worth of MP, AND you don't have enough backpack space for them anyway! It makes a lot of characters kind of useless - why use magic and run out of MP in one or two battles when you can throw random sword dude in there who can attack forever?

I don't understand peoples beef with the bag system. You are supposed to make use of the storage. You have to weigh out how much need to get thru to the next visit to the storage. Also, i wish the rune system was like suikoden 3. The large creatures is bogus to me as well...in the past it would take a front and back slot...not 2 front or back slots

My issue with the game is related to the Rune System, but for another reason. Why do certain characters get special treatment? Right now, I recently got Yuferius from Impershi'arc, and his "special rune" Jaw Crush has AN ENTIRE SCENARIO ANIMATION WITH IT, and NO ONE ELSE HAS THIS SO FAR!!!! There are "character-specific" runes / skills that make some characters awesome and exploitable, while some other are just "okay," and yet further some characters don't even have ANY specific runes or skills related to them or their background. Why do some of them just have Hero Combos with other characters, but nothing that can make them unique and useful? Yuthus and Yusuke are like two of my favorite characters in the game so far, but they don't have ANY skills that truly make them even more badass! What if Yuthus could have a "Shield Charge" mechanic where the more hits he takes from enemies and covering allies, he can redirect that energy back to the enemy in a Captain America Shield Charge or Shield Throw skill with various intensities? Yusuke, with his "biker gang"-like background, only uses kicks as an attack because of lore reasons, but what if through an ultimate attack, he charges up and PUNCHES the enemy extremely hard for an instant shield break and massive damage? How much more badass would that have made him? The team missed out on so many opportunities to make characters more individually unique and diverse with individual skillsets / runes as you level them up and I think that would have made battles even better and more interesting. Look at Chrono Cross, for example, as many characters as there are in that game, every character has THREE individual skills that vary in function (and possibly damage) as you get them leveled up and it make the characters more than just an avatar with a weapon and moveset.

The rune system... I agreed, very undescriptive, and keeping it locked behind the shop and warehouse was a little off-putting. (You can change runes at the Warehouse), The bag system should be stacked to 99, the rest I think is fine. I would add that Dash boot should have been a key item. I cannot give a full opinion on Warbattles yet. :) Fishing, I enjoy it but I just turn on my music when I fish HAHA, but agree. I dislike the ambient sounds in most areas, no foot steps, birds, ect ect. I just need to be a bit more lively. I love the over world, but... no incentive to actually explore.

@@Suikojunkiethey take up a support slot, which is my option is just the worse feature of the game. The support slots should just be permanent upgrades that are always active for the qol ones. Having to pick between different qol effects and buffs sometimes at the start of battle is really stupid

​@Suikojunkie Yeah, you do. They allow an upgrade to your bag's size within the castle upgrades. So the bag issue is only really a problem in the early portion of the game.

@@twigz3214 Hi ya just want to say you do not have to bring them along to up your bag @xenaximus is right you can upgrade the bag at HQ. But you are right also in a sense. You can bring them and it will up space to 30. Both options stack. So if you max out the upgrade they give you 70 space, bring him to give you 30 extra for a total of 100 space overall. This also goes for dash boots and the support runner can stack also and you run around almost like a flash

As much as people hated S4, it have the best inventory system in the Suikoden series.

Agree mostly except for the last part. That battle you showed I was done in less than 10 seconds. The party you had in the video was not a very good mix.

@@kali-qgames1301 I did the same during non story time.During the story my Ateam was always in the lead. The front line alone was Garr with 75O hp with firefly rune at level 64 along with Reyna and Yufurious. Like Garr would say "where is the challenge"

I found an exploit within the game. If you keep running into an invisible wall where you're not supposed to progress yet you can fight enemies you shouldn't be able to. Reminds me of the suikoden 2 gate glitch

I would guess with the fishing, the music stops to help those visually impaired; to help with their timing on the reel. As the fish bites, it makes a swoosh sound to help let player know the hook has been pulled on. Similar to the visible bobber bouncing a certain way once the hook has been baited. I also noticed depending on the location/color of the water, the bobber is a different color to help aid the color blind.

Seaside Caverns fishing spot showcases they don't care that much. That spot literally hurts to look at.

The different color on the bobber is tied to the level on your fishing rod

The great thing about the systems we wanted fleshed out more is that it's easier to build upon an already created system so I dont doubt that fishing, war battles, etc. will be better in the next game.

The only things that drove me crazy in an otherwise amazing experience: Beigoma making you play the 3rd match even if you already won the first 2, the fact the cooking mini game character recruit requires you to do the cookoff FIFTEEN times (it should only be like 5 imo), and the last thing would probably how annoying it could be at times keeping track of equipment between everyone. BUT I LOVED THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have clocked in 16h playing this game and as suikoden veteran, I am happy with the product that I purchased. Some QoL I am very much agree with the points in this video and I hope they patch them into the game at some point and we don’t need to wait for eiyuden chronicle 2. I heard the dev has committed to make the 2nd game which I am so happy to hear

I agree with most of this. I also wish they had a skill system with things like “Dodge, parry, etc” like suikoden 3 & 5. It really helps certain characters with bad stats have a way to still be good. That or just rebalance some characters to actually be useful lol

I think I´m growing old, those flaws don´t bother me that much. Enjoying Ys and Dragon Warior in the 90´s grinded me to this maybe. This is a great efford for a kick starter, comparing it to Square-Enix Octopath Travaler is unequivilant.

I dont think it's growing old. I think its just what we were accustomed to back in the day, we had no grounds to complain because nothing would change. We weren't entitled or spoiled that way.

@@Kildain717 exactly sea of stars did old school right with quality of life, if Chrono trigger did not have random encounters on SNES there is absolutely no reason to have random encounters in 2024. Plus a 2x speed for the battles is needed.

The scripted war battles were one of many people's complain about Suikoden II. Don't know why they kept it that way here.

Agreed, we only had like 2 fights near the end where you were really able to say ok let me see what my army and planning can do. We were such under dogs, that we had to have a “plan” for EVERY fight. And this one felt worst as control even felt more limited.

​Plz recommend what RPG. The last gr8 rpg i played was DQ11. Before that it's been 15 years or more. I love story and turn based. I can play action types if it's a great Rpg. Story is important. DQ11 was a great story yet not omg like KOTOR. Still dq11 was best game in 20 years imo. I'm trying to decide between... 100 heros, ​ Unicorn overlord, Grania HD collection, Ocopath 2, Like a dragon 2 I think? Maybe 1 also? LiveALive, Sea of stars, Chained echos, Persona 5 royale and P3 reloaded? Yet... persona games the last one I played was on ps 2. It was fun... but VERY boring doing all the school work. Maybe it's not as tedious in p5 and p3? Favorite games is FF 3, 7, 9, 10. DQ11, KOTOR even though not turn based was worth it. Shadow heart 2, FF tattics, Crono trigger, old zeldas nes snes. Are the new switch zeldas good story? Etc. Have PS4 and switch atm. Anyone plz recommend ty. Especially if you grew up in the 90's when jrpg was... worth it lol. @@kali-qgames1301

I agree with all you points here. But to add to the magic issue is that there are NO MAGIC COMBOS. Why? That is another staple of the Suikoden series. The first time i saw 2 of my characters rise their hand and activate their magic one after the other to create the 3 pillars of flame moving in the triangle formation and then Lighting coming down in the middle then the damage. Oooooh boyyyyyy was i hype. Then the search for more magic combination begins and every time i found one i was jumping in excitement. Why they left that out. 😢

I dont remember any other suikodens but 2, but in 2 there were magic rune combos with level 4 spells, granted it was only the elemental ones like lighting, earth fire, etc but it was cool.

In Suikoden esp 3 the magic felt powerful and worth planing on using and prep. In these game half the time just smack is the way to go. For boss fights there is some fun, but anything else by the time you have the SP stacked you already wiped the enemy or only have one left.

Yes that is correct it was the elementals and you had to have the runes at level 4. The only main line game I think didn't have magic combos was 3. But they have the True Wind, True Water, True Lighting, True Fire and True Earth. Very powerful and cool looking magic attacks. for me all Runes in S3 were very cool tho .

It was cool, but very meaningless, to be honest. You actually got more damage from casting the runes separately than with a combo.

Yeah that is why I enjoy it so much. I play for the fun and not just to find that most powerful character and magic/weapon and wont do/use anything else. For me is not about this is crappy and wont use it at all. I like to experiment and when i find something I like or is visually exciting gives me a sense of satisfaction. For me is boring to rush to find the best thing in a game or just use what is the most optimal and nothing else. Unless am in a super short time and want to progress some or really stuck that is when i look for a walkthrough or read a little but as soon as I find that one thing that I need i wont watch/read past that and keep on exploring/finding things on my own. When am almost done with the game then i go back and check if i miss something. If i miss something i cant go back and take then i leave it for a second play through in the feature.

the main issue with the inventory is that later on nothing stacks... even with 90 slots it gets filled up super fast. for most of the game the inventory wasnt an issue for me. regarding slow battles, the game could use a speed up feature ala bravely default 2 for sure. theres a lot of little things that could just be done better in this game.

I agree with all of these. Overall I think its more a proof of concept than a fully amazing game. They have proved they can follow up the Suikoden franchise. The characters, the base building, the story, the battles, the runes, the bosses and gimicks, the duels, the minigames. Its all there but in the back of my mind I always think it could be much better with a little more tweaking. They nailed the aspects that needed to be there and now I want to see them go beyond. I love it and I am excited for the next one.

I never did have a problem with inventory. The battlefield games for have customization, doing mock battle is a pain bec you cannot quit in the middle of the battle.

Bro fishing is all about the quiet. Also, listening is best way to catch the fish in this game. They could have done what Animal Crossing does and lower the music whem fishing but reality is you need quiet when fishing.

Personally I like the limited bag space and the rune system being only able to change at town. I prefer games to be harder than easier which is why I'm playing on hard with all the extra difficulty settings on and having to set your squad up in town and not change the runes/characters(unless you have support) gives more weight to your decisions. if you could swap out whenever you need x rune or x character I would get bored by just face rolling across everything personally. and the limited items is just because it's more classic RPG style and I like that. The magic needs the biggest improvement, I think it's unanimously agreed that healing magic is the only reasonable use of it(anything else is a hindrance). There needs to be a mechanic that passively replenishes the MP naturally like even if it's X% per completed battle(that way using MP is still a weighted decision but not unusable.) half the time I save my MP throughout exploration for the bosses and then only use like 1 or 2 spells.

I haven't gotten to the fishing mini-game yet... but from what I see from your example, I understand your pain. The fishing in Rising had the button-match mini-game, so that seemed a little more fulfilling and challenging.

Yeah, Rising did it better. In HH, it doesn't even qualify as a mini game. You literally wait for the exclamation prompt, press one button and that's it. It's a one button QTE.

I agree with the slowness of the battle. Suikoden 2 can atk simultaneously, even the enemies can do that as well. I think having that turn order at the top was the culprit as it queues up which character should move next.

I haven't been able to play Eiyuden Chronicle yet, but I'm not surprised to hear that the magic is underwhelming, I feel like that was an issue in the Suikoden games too. You could easily get better damage from using physical attacks and unite attacks instead of wasting your limited casts of magic, which in some Suikoden games couldn't even be recharged unless you rested at an inn.

I have Momo doing upwards to 2k damage on a single inferno magic cast 😂 Magic definitely feels underwhelming early but once u get the mage glass cannon rune and higher tier magic like Inferno, its pretty much the best source of damage I've found.

To add, the upwards to 2k is also done with a cooking item that increases spell damage. Otherwise its still about 1200 or so.

I agree with all your points here. I only just got up to desert. Character recruitment is definitely the best. dialog is fun. I hope Eiyuden II will be much better and has better stories 😃 The fishing is totally boring and annoying that you can't speed up to clear the pop up notification. Also, what's with the "Caugh a fish" message!!?? 1 pop up message is enough. Perhaps, they could've put message "caught fish: minow" I agree with the battle. It's slow and why they did not make it same as suikoden where multiple chars can attack at the same time at different enemies. Perhaps, they should add animation on/off toggle.

Quality of life doesnt bother me at all. I love almost everything about the game except not knowing when you have to split into 3 groups because i stay so focused on 6 characters. Characters who should know each other not recognizing other characters is basically a Suikoden staple. Its still annoying when i have Mellore and Iugo in my team and Garoo doesnt say anything after not having seen them in awhile. I hate Lian. She annoys me like no one else. Meldridge is the GOAT. Even Dux Aldric has admitted twice now how much of a dangerouse strategist he is. Dunno. Love the game, it's everything i wanted. I like so many of the characters. Standouts are Wayve, Francesca, Carrie, Milana, Nil, Meldridge, Garr, Maximus and Perielle imo. I'm 50 hours in. Still got a ways to go i believe. Just finished the massive battle with the dragonfolk showing up. I love the massive battles as well. The way ive always thought of them in Suikoden is that they are a tense way to advance the plot and it continues here.

Quality of life doesn't bother me too much either. Sure, speeding up battle animations would be a cool option but not a big deal. Only thing thst does bother me a little is the restrictions on saving your game.

Just found your channel and saw you cover jrpgs and fighting games so that’s an instant sub I feel like this is a great game just held back by wanting to be a bit too retro. That being said, I’m having a great time with it, but probably won’t go for a second play through or 100%

The lag in the menus are pretty bad and I have a glitch in the castle where the top and bottom borders change to the next screen but Overall still a pretty good game not quite suikoden but a very good attempt imo 8/10

To be honest, when your strong enough, the auto battle with money support guy and heal all items in bag was quick enough. I do strongly agree magic dmg in game given vs received was real bad, elder dragon fire spelled my main for 600 dmg yet my water spell did 80 to em

If you change the item capacity then all of the items have to be reworked, IE no item stacks, items heal for more/less,, etc. Item capacity is limited on purpose so you dont make the game easier/harder for yourself. Additionally, warehouse storage is encouraged so youre not running around with hundreds of equip/runes. While i agree that the rune system is a bit weird i cant say allowing us to change them anytime is helpful other than possibly exploiting hard mode of something. SP for unite attacks is dumb since they barely make a difference in damage output. Only a few outliers like Fran and Fal Movement speed..... dash boots should be default speed at all times. I put them on Iugo and really had no isses though. I do think combat speed is slow. Every character should just move in thier order immediately without waiting for finished animations like past suikodens. Overall the game is amazing and it surpassed my expectations.

I'm still early in the game (abadoned mine), but I can agree on almost everything I've come across in your list. the pack doesn't bother me yet, but I feel like 50 to start would be nice. I do like that things come in groups for the inventory though. The fishing mini game so far is my biggest disappointment. With Sea of Stars having quite possibly my favorite fishing mini game last year playing this one as just a wait, now press 1 button isn't cutting it. The sad thing is I didn't really like the fishing in Rising and even it was better than this one. Still end of the day I'm absolutely loving this game and I'm looking forward to sinking hundreds of hours into it.

My thing is..... Rune magic doesn't really do much in this.... I remember powerful magic clearing out everything or most of the enemies. I really haven't seen any powerful magic like The predecessors.

Really bringing it with the Hundred Heroes content like you said Kali. Yes, a lot of these critiques are perfectly reasonable. I hope some of them can be fixed in a patch or update soon.

The honesty is appreciated. I have yet to play a moment of the game but I'm sure I'll lament some of the elements you discussed. I'm more concerned about the switch launch debacle. Rabbit and Bear had better clean up their next launch, indy or not it is inexcusable to launch a game in such a sorry state on what would have possibly been your number one console for sales. It messes up their bottom line and I had to switch (no pun intended lol) which version I even bought it for.

Thanks for the Video Kali🎉 I agree in the most Points with you. I love the cosy, well designed Towns but also the Dungeons and the Zeldaesc Rune Barrows🎉, love the Characters and their little Twists, but even their deep Chardesign. The Voices helping a Lot! The HQ and the Minigame are so good!! I looove it sooo much! I like the Card Game and Beygoma the Most. The Cooking Battle are even better now, then in Suikoden 2🎉 And they are a Loveletter to Suikoden2 Cooking Games. What i don't like is the strange Runesystem like you. Often you unlock a new Rune..and its just a new Ability to the Character.. i have so many Runes i dont use. And what the Hack are passiv Runes? I'm in the first Desert Town now but dont see any of them. I also think too that the War Battles are just to Basic and too less customisation( difficult Word for my English Knowledge😂) i hope they give us more in The second Part of Eiyuden chronicle hundred heroes. Fishing was ok for me because it remember me to Animal Crossing ❤ And i enjoyed the Silence ;-) But yes..getting Hunang was a pain in the A**!! I just started playing Eiyuden. Two things that slightly spoil my impression are that I can't enter every house and explore it. Also, the houses I can enter are quite restrictive; for example, there are stairs leading to the second floor but I can't go there. The other thing is that there's no interaction with the environment. In Suikoden 2, you could approach different objects, like a barrel, and get information about what's inside it. Sometimes you'd even get an item. Maybe all this sounds like nitpicking, but I really enjoy exploring interiors in video games

I was disappointed by this also, examining background items gave each house in S2 a lot of flavour which is missing from EC, the world feels a bit more empty/bland as a result.

Honestly, the Battle System and the Rune System are kind of "meh". From my perspective, the rune system seems sort of pointless. Like I'm 3/4 of the way through the game and i haven't even bothered messing with it, that's how pointless the rune system is. As far as the Battle System goes, i feel the same as you.

for me it's the story. don't get me wrong, it's good, but don't cut the hero journey. friendship needs to be built before dramatized, and leaders needs to be proven before they lead and talked about. that's all I'm gonna say without spoiling anything. and show, don't tell.

It is impossible for anyone to make a fishing game fun for me, the fact that it didn't make me want to visit Japan and murder someone is all I need. There are some good spells, a lot of bad spells, and the mp efficiency is terrible. I do like that mages can do decent damage without mp, bit I'd still like magic as a whole to be better. The best improvement I can think of for the inventory is to stop limiting the item stacks.

9+ hours in so far. I finally have my castle hq. I have to say my dopamine receptors are fried from playing SO2 R & FF7 rebirth. Those games are much more fast paced than ECHH. The slow paced battle system in ECHH makes the encounters less exciting. This game is also very slow. The character bond also is lacking compared to Suikoden 1-3. I'm still hoping it picks up the pace because right now I'm still disappointed.

I completely agree on the war battles, They always just ended right when you started feeling great about it. Especially the first few ones. And yes, offensive Magic does make you go later in the turn order, and the AoE magics are pretty much guaranteed to go last so more than likely half the enemies would be dead anyway. My biggest complaint was the menu's ui being so slow, and having to scroll through things 1 by 1 all the time.. A minor complaint I did have that wasn't mentioned was the map design, for starters the minimap is not very intuitive, you'll think you can reach something from a place but you actually have to go around or do something extra to reach your destination. Then there are the little hiccups in the actual physical map itself. I can't tell you how many times I accidentally got stuck on the stupid stairs in Treefolk village, just because I was approaching them from the wrong direction. Then the early game dungeons are just absurdly big, recruiting the people in the abandoned mines was one of my least enjoyable experiences, even with dash boots equipped. Once I got fast travel it was all runeshards of return and Carrie-taxi.

I think the limited pack would be OK if it was just for consumables - there's at least a little justification there to prevent the player from carrying an endless supply of healing items and never really having to worry about resources when exploring. The fact that all equipment/runes/quest items you loot also take up those limited slots is what makes it not feel great. They should all have their own, uncapped tab. I agree on the speed as well, normal battles tend to just take too long for animations to play out. My other knock (at least coming from the early game) is - holy crap just let me play the game. It feels like every few steps you're interrupted for a completely inconsequential bit of dialog that could just be put in one of the conversation blurbs.

I totally agree about the fishing being too simple. I'm not too far in the story, but my biggest gripe is that the story is a little too light-hearted. Tragedy and loss were big parts of Suikoden, but it's completely missing from Eiyuden. Nowa's village was burned down, but no one close to Nowa died. Everyone safely evacuated and the village was instantly rebuilt like nothing happened. It just doesn't feel like there's a real threat. Other than that, I'm loving the game.

The unite system for SP is bad. I loved spamming and finding different unites to use for different situations. 5 SP for combos makes them not worth it. Just let us use the unites as we see fit. The damage on all the unites I have seen thus far is far far less than each character just regular attacking. Making the unite system pretty worthless except one combo but using that combo you have to have one bad mage on the party. Francesca. The unite with her and Falward completely heals and buffs the party for 3 SP. Which makes the dungeon crawling in the game easy. Just leave 1 monster alive defend get SP up. Heal with the unite. Kill monster. Don't need to use items or magic really outside of combat or very little of each.

What worries me is that the creators do not provide the number of copies sold. If they are good, this information appears quickly. As for the game itself, I like it very much. However, I lack the maturity of the plot and the sense of the horror of war (this was perfectly reproduced in Suikoden 2). The game is also too easy (I play on hard but I still don't see a big challenge here). Some characters are too easy to recruit, and guides on how to do it appeared too quickly. People would have to think harder if it were a more difficult task. Apart from these small remarks, after 19 hours it is a really successful product.

The story is mehhh, not dark.. no one dies. The villain is not scary -__- Dissapoint with the story, zero plottwist, politic is so so (better suikoden 1 and 5) Every arc are boring. I wait for someone to die and sad moment, but nothing happen. (The only die cutscene if not complete all heroes and the animation is SO LAZY af) better 90's game. No FMV. No choice matter tho'. Great video, though I have to disagree with your #4 love. I hated the mini games in this. They were pretty basic and the boat race has horrible controls. There's a LOT that I love (your other points I absolutely agree with) but the mini games aren't it. That said I actually liked the inventory system as it added some planning. Battle speed is way too slow. One thing I'll add that I love, the difficulty. Back to back boss battles, with no chances to restock unless you run all the way back (and even then sometimes you don't get that option). There's a good challenge. All said, great video, goes to show even further that everything hits people differently.

This video is why I am going to wait 6 months to a year to buy this game. There are a lot things that need to be patched and fixed for this to be enjoyable. I'm sorry but its 2024 and those quality of life features over the past 15 years have made it really hard to play older games without and emulator and FF options to make the battles go faster. Imo, turn based combat NEEDS to be at a fast pace or it gets old real quick and I don't want to play games where grinding for levels is making my eyes tired. I gotta feel engaged. Making a modern game that plays like a PS2 game is kind of unacceptable considering how much money they got to make this. Save points in this day and age? Really? That shit is over and has been for awhile.

I think i agree with all negative points. Having mp and sp is fine, but it was not worked really well here. hogan and reid recruitming is bonkers tiresome. Overall i think this game is undercooked here and there and in other areas it is overworked. The game is fun and stuff, but yeah a lot could be improved

The game is so so, nothing impresive, the story is mid, optimize in battle is so little i hope they can speed up, SP system is dumb. I know its for balance but if unite/ combo tied to SP is just useless. Cant change maping key, Nowa rune tied with useless and worthless slot, lack of combo magic, i hope they keep rare item in shop like suikoden. The game sure wanna keep player play different mini game sure. That was Suikoden side dish, i have no complain but if you have energy for that why dont fix something basic like sound or sfx when doing running. Maybe its because i play so much kiseki game i feel the battle really slow. If its an entery for a francise like Suikoden 1 i think its great step. Even Xenoblade 1 or Cold steel 1 is painfull to play at first. But they keep going and improve theirself, so yea its good game not amazing, its just nostalgia drive.
