You know your birds are so happy when they're excited to jump out of their cage. It means they're comfortable in and out. My birds get their cages opened at 6am and they have the freedom to go in and out of their cage at will. Their cage is their safe space, their personal space, and their bedroom. And that's how I treat it. I offer my hand if they want to come out, but if they nibble on my finger instead of jumping onto it, I know they're not ready to come out yet.

That's one beautiful rainbow you've got there! We have one too and he's a talker! He knows about 7 phrases and 20+ words. He bonded with my daughter and she taught him by speaking in a high pitched voice to him. Our birds fly free in the living room and have swings in the picture window overlooking the garden. There are bird feeders there too so they can see and be close to the hummingbirds, finches, and can see our chickens from there too. Their lives are short folks, make it good for them!

2. Never breed them. How do you handle hormonal stages of your birds? I have 4 budgies, 2 male and 2 female. They formed nice bonds over the last months and I can certainly see they want to breed because they are constantly looking for a place to nest: they climb up my sleeve, they walk into rolled up towels, they court every day and one of the male even tries to straight up mate with its female. I'm afraid I may not be able to avoid them breeding, so what's the solution here?
@zneaznippy6044 Жыл бұрын
do not give them birdnest
@JohnnyX50 Жыл бұрын
If they have nowhere to nest then they shouldn't go through the process. Not always a guarantee. I only have one budgie, nearly 2 years now and he loves to 'court' my gold ring on my right hand. It's funny as that is my mouse moving hand so while I am watching youtube vids and moving my mouse he is bobbing around casually on the back of my hand. I just let him get on with it until he's had enough. Silly bird LOL

I've always given my birds tap water and I don't see anything wrong with it. I and out dogs drink it too and it's generally safe where I live. The only difference is that it makes me feel more thirsty, but I don't see why would it be harmful, when my birds, dogs and I are completely fine drinking it.

Honestly people who actively free domesticated birds should be forced re-educated until they get it through their thick skulls what horrible things they are doing to those poor souls. Better yet, don't give them any food, water or heat while they are educated about their wrong doings. And it is not just birds. People do the same thing with rodents like rats or hamsters. A brief moment of freedom followed by terrible fear, painful but at least quick death from a predator or days of slowly starving and being thirsty before they succumb to their death. What terrible fate these poor animals must suffer for certain people not having even two brain cells together. Anyways, that is my rant done. Great video. I actually use the on tap water purifier for the water for myself and my boys, even though in Denmark the water is very safe from the tap, I just don't want to risk it because it is tested for humans, not birds.

I am sorry for the loss of your beloved pet, I know how heart-breaking it can be. When we lost our budgie of 18 years, yes, 18! We were so grief stricken (and please don't think me weird) I wrapped him in some red velvet material from my mums old, but favourite curtains, gently placed him in a small thermos with a spray of millet and sealed it shut. It remains to this day in my possession some 15 years after the event. Un-opened, still airtight and seldom moved from storage where I tell people, "Don't move the Thermos!" It is a bit creepy to think he is still in there and probably in a mummified state but he was so loved and like a member of the family to us.

I agree with all but I am getting prepared incase if my budgies decided to have babies. It is not in my place to tell them no to that. That's why I am slowly gathering necessary items to help them if need be. They are right now at the most healthiest, fastest and strongest as young adults. Right now they are not ready for a bigger family so they make sure not to make babies. They mated throughout February and did not lay any eggs so I had them checked with a vet, incase. I'm not worried about them because if they show signs that something is wrong or let me know that something is wrong I can call my avian vet about it.
